Agustin walked into the room where he spotted Ernesto sitting at his desk flipping through papers. Trafficking routes perhaps. His gaze switched to the fae who was sitting on his lap, her ankles bound with chains. Her wings fluttered when Ernesto stroked her long blonde hair. Agustin cleared his throat. Ernesto looked up, "Yes come sit! You want a beer, go help yourself." Agustin nodded his head in appreciation and grabbed a beer from the mini fridge and went back over and sat down trying not to stare at the fae. "I see you noticed Lucia, get this! She's a Mexican fae! I've heard you captured one from Ireland?" Ernesto leaned forward holding Lucia tight. Lucia tried to force a smile on her face. Agustin smiled and checked Lucia out and wondered if Lucia was suffocating with being in Ernesto's grasp. " Si, I didn't capture her per se but I looked after her. An air fae I think."
"Ah, I see…what's her name?" Ernesto asked while refilling his whiskey sour.
"Esther Evergreen, name sounds familiar?" Agustin replied, leaning back. Ernesto shook his head. "Last name sounds familiar but it must've been from way back." Agustin pointed to the papers that laid out on the desk before him. "What are these for?" Ernesto clicked his tongue and handed the papers over to him. "Ah, nothing much, just some new routes, the government is onto us, so hopefully this route is better. It could be dangerous but we need to get this shipment in by next week. " Agustin sighed, glancing through them. "I figured. I will say that these narcotics are like candy to the Americans." Ernesto laughed, "Yes my friend, and we're getting new shipments out to the East." Agustin looked up and asked, "Like Russia?"
"Yep. Every day it's getting easier and easier. Plus the Russian mob are finding ways to pay their government off." Ernesto said, chuckling. Lucia was starting to fidget with her fingernails, looking down. He looked over at her and threw her out of his lap. There was a loud thump that hit the ground. Agustin tried to get up, until he realized his place and held onto the edge of his chair. The girl whimpered. Ernesto pulled out his pistol and shot Lucia instantly in the head. Bang! Bang! Agustin's face twisted into horror as the fae's blood spilled onto the floor. Ernesto laughed like a maniac and sprinted outside of his office and shouted. "Someone get in here and clean this mess up! Andele!" Agustin fixed his face and refused to look into the pool of blood. Ernesto looked into his face for a reaction. Agustin noticed, and gave him a small smirk. A few minutes later a man came in and got rid of Lucia and a small woman cleaned up the blood off the floor. Agustin was Catholic so he gave a small prayer to Lucia for a peaceful rest. Ernesto didn't notice. "Anyways like I was saying we are shipping more towards the East and changing the routes from here to Columbia…" Agustin didn't hear the rest.
Ernesto's voice was drowned out by his thoughts. All he was thinking is how he got into this mess in the first place. He went back into memory when he was about fifteen years old. And his friend Pedro stole hundreds of dollars from the cartel. He and his friends were kidnapped and were forced to kill each other and the last one standing (which was Agustin) was to be recruited into the cartel. It was either join the cartel or be the last to be killed. So what choice did he have? But every night the cries and screams of his homies come back to haunt him in his dreams. From that he became an insomniac not able to get rid of all the noise. Some night he would hold up a p!stol to his head and tears would stream down his face. What am I doing? I should've chosen d3ath…. "And that's the story on how I am banned from every bar in Paraguay!" Ernesto's voice came back. Agustin snapped back into reality. He had no idea what he was talking about so he just smiled and nodded. "Hey amigo, you okay? You look like you have something on your mind?" Ernesto pointed out. Agustin shook his head,
"Ah, its nothing. I just stayed up late, that's all!" Ernesto chuckled, " Yes, I see…'stayed up late' " It took everything in Agustin's power not to roll his eyes at his work partner. He reached down to his phone and pretended to get a phone call. "Excuse me, I have to take this." He said while standing up and walking towards the door. Ernesto nodded and opened the door for him. Agustin pretended to talk as he waved at Ernesto and walked swiftly out of the room. He continued to talk until he reached the stairway. He muttered to himself, "Pull yourself together Agustin! You see faeries getting killed all the time! How was that any different…" As he walked down the stairs he thought about the new fae from Ireland. When he reached the bottom of the stairs he went over to the cells. He didn't visit the cells often, only when he was supposed to. They were dark of course, with some of the headlights not working. He kept on searching and searching, until finally he reached the right destination. He looked in the small peephole.
Esther was there safe and sound with a sun-fae from Brazil by the name of Kassandra. She had been here for only a few months so she should be good for Esther. Kassandra was always full of life even in dark situations such as this. Juniper looked at the door and noticed someone looking through it. She then put up the finger and stared back. Agustin stepped back and thought he was a creep and probably deserved that.
"That creep was watching us again.,." Juniper sighed. Rosalynn chuckled, "Which one? Too many to count!" Kassandra laughed, "Not all of them are that bad!" Esther and Syrena looked at each other like they could not believe what they just heard. "You know ALL of them work for the cartel right?" Syrena said concerningly. "Do you guys even know which one they work for?"Esther asked. "CJNG, but many others do the same bull crap." Rosalynn informed while looking at the door, finding that Agustin disappeared. "I'm pretty sure Sinaloa just started doing this a couple years ago." Syrena included tilting her head. "Yeah, wouldn't surprise me, those two are at each other's necks constantly, it's kind of funny in a way. " Juniper said with a lightened tone. "Like they are rivals?" Esther suggested. "Precisely. Do you know how many times Sinaloa had tried to bomb this place? Sometimes I think that one day they are going to bomb us , and then find us…and finally…rescue us.." Kassandra said slowly while her eyes filled with hopes and dreams.
Juniper was a realist, and didn't believe in hopes and dreams. She wanted to say something, but Kassandra didn't have hardly any way of coping, none of them did really. So she just stayed silent and nodded her head slightly. "That's a nice dream. Every night before I go to sleep, or attempt to. I think about being back in Kenmare. " Esther said while placing a hand on Kassandras shoulder. "Kenmare?" She questioned. " Yeah, It's a small coastal village in Ireland. Oh how much I miss it." Esther added on. "Yeah, that's all I ever do is dream.." Rosalynn said quietly. Everyone looked over at her. "I have been here since I was about eight years old. All I know is that I was born in Guadalajara. But when I get out of here, oh boy when I leave this junk hole, I'm going somewhere far, far away. Maybe Italy or France. Some nice places like that. Then again, I am pretty dang sure I am going to die here, and I'm fine with that. This place, this cell, and every faerie I've met in the last Gods know how many years this place has become my friend. Rosalynn lay down on the cold floor and stayed silent after that ,twiddling with her fingers. Moment passed and the door swung open with a creak.
A man walked in with syringes laying in what appeared to be a cart. He called out, "Shots." Then all of them stood up and walked in a line, having the syringes serenading into their veins. This wasn't new for any of them. Even Esther had gotten used to this routine every single day. After the shots were done and the man who covered up his face with a ski mask left the room. They all passed out. The Serpente venom made them pass out. Most of the men that were in these cartels were part of the Serpente species. Half- man, Half- Serpent, or snake if you will. There was once upon a time where the Faeries and the Serpentes' got along just fine back in the roaring 20's. But the past is the past. It is the present we have to focus on now.
