Chapter 3
Beneath the Surface
or
Zoom Through Before The Unexpected Family Reunion (of Sorts) That Occurred During a Seemingly Innocent Ladies' Social Hour, Resulting in One Very Surprised Senju-Namikaze, One Slightly Snarky Nara, One Very Vocal Inuzuka, and a Room Full of Matriarchs Suddenly Realizing They've Been Hanging Out With Someone Historically Significant.
The following morning dawned with a fragile sense of renewed hope. The tension from the previous night had eased, replaced by a quiet understanding and a shared excitement for the future they had tentatively agreed upon. They decided on a plan: a surprise. Yagura, unfortunately, had to return to Kirigakure to attend to pressing Mizukage duties, but he promised that his priority there would be finding a ring for Raiura, something that reflected the depth of his feelings and the unique beauty he saw in her.
Meanwhile, Raiura would embark on her own quest in Konoha, searching for a ring for Yagura. She wanted something that spoke of his strength, his quiet intensity, and the surprising tenderness he often kept hidden beneath his stoic exterior. The idea of each of them choosing a symbol of their commitment for the other, without knowing what the other would pick, added a layer of sweet anticipation to the day.
The journey to the Konoha gates was a quiet one, Ryūsei holding tightly to both his mother's hand and the hand of Yagura. At the gate, Yagura's small contingent of guards stood waiting, their expressions a mixture of stoicism and respect. Saying goodbye always held a tinge of melancholy, but this time, the promise of Yagura's return with a ring added a layer of hopeful anticipation.
Ryūsei hugged Yagura tightly, his small face buried in Yagura's side. Yagura ruffled the boy's hair affectionately, whispering something that made Ryūsei giggle and look up at him with an adoring gaze, a mirror of the way he looked at Raiura.
Then it was Utakata's turn. He embraced Raiura warmly, a rare, gentle smile gracing his lips. "Take care of yourself, Raiura," he said softly, his unusual directness conveying a genuine care.
Mei Terumī's gaze, however, was anything but warm. She watched the exchange with a palpable jealousy, her usually jovial demeanor replaced by a sharp, almost venomous glare directed at Raiura. The unspoken tension between the two women hung heavy in the air.
Ao, ever stoic, simply grunted a curt acknowledgment and gave a brief nod, his single visible eye conveying a sense of duty and perhaps a hint of respect.
Finally, Chōjūrō approached, his movements as nervous as ever. He extended a hand to Raiura, his grip so quick and trembling that she genuinely worried the young swordsman's bones might snap under the pressure. He mumbled a hasty farewell, his eyes darting around as if he couldn't wait for the awkward moment to be over.
With the goodbyes exchanged, Yagura knelt down, giving Ryūsei one last, lingering hug, a soft smile on his face as he met the boy's earnest gaze. Then he turned to Raiura, his magenta eyes filled with unspoken promises before nodding to his guards. In a swirl of mist, the Mizukage and his team disappeared, leaving Raiura standing at the Konoha gates with Ryūsei, a bittersweet ache in her chest and the exciting prospect of finding the perfect ring for her future husband weighing on her mind. Ryūsei, still clutching her hand, looked up at her, his expression a mix of sadness at Yagura's departure.
The late afternoon sun streamed through the windows of one of Orochimaru's secluded labs, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Raiura sat perched on a stool, idly swinging her legs, while Orochimaru meticulously examined a series of intricate diagrams spread across a large table. The past two days had been surprisingly… calm. Instead of intense training, they had mostly engaged in quiet conversations, a slow peeling back of layers as they tentatively explored each other's minds and perspectives.
"You know," Raiura began, breaking the comfortable silence, "I've been thinking about chakra. Everyone talks about it like it's this energy we just… have. But where does it actually come from, you think?"
Orochimaru paused her examination, a thoughtful expression flickering across her pale face. She looked up at Raiura, a hint of intrigue in her golden eyes. "An interesting question. The common understanding is the merging of physical and spiritual energies. But the specifics… they remain largely theoretical."
Raiura nodded. "Exactly. Like, we have chakra pathways, the tenketsu, but what creates the initial energy? Is it purely internal? Or is there some kind of external influence we're not fully aware of?"
Orochimaru leaned back against the edge of the table, crossing her arms. "There are some ancient texts, fragmented and often dismissed as folklore, that suggest a connection to the planet itself. A kind of ambient energy that living beings draw upon, which then mixes with their inherent life force."
Raiura's eyes widened. "Like… the planet has its own chakra?"
"A crude analogy, perhaps," Orochimaru conceded. "But consider the natural energy we draw upon for Sage Mode. It exists within the environment, separate yet accessible. Could chakra, in its most primal form, originate from a similar source, just integrated into our very being over millennia?"
Raiura pondered this, her brow furrowed in concentration. "So, our physical and spiritual energy acts like a catalyst, drawing in this ambient energy and refining it into what we use?"
"It's a possibility," Orochimaru said, a hint of fascination in her voice. "It would explain why certain locations seem to have a stronger 'flow' of chakra, and why disruptions to the natural world can sometimes affect a shinobi's abilities."
"And what about the spiritual component?" Raiura asked. "Where does that come from? Is it tied to our consciousness, our life force… our soul?"
Orochimaru's gaze turned distant, a flicker of something unreadable in her eyes. "The soul… a nebulous concept. But it is undeniably linked to our chakra. Perhaps it acts as a blueprint, shaping the ambient energy according to our individual will and nature." She paused, then added, a wry smile touching her lips, "Of course, these are merely theories. Fascinating, wouldn't you agree?"
Raiura grinned, a spark of intellectual curiosity ignited within her. "Definitely. It makes you wonder what else we don't know about something so fundamental to our existence." The quiet afternoon in the lab, filled with their shared exploration of a fundamental mystery, felt more productive and insightful than any strenuous training session might have been.
After three more days of intriguing conversations and unexpected camaraderie with Orochimaru, Raiura received a summons from Tsunade. The Hokage informed her that she, along with the remaining members of Team 7 – Kakashi, Sasuke, and Sakura – were assigned to a protection mission. Their charge: Koyuki Kazahana, a seemingly ordinary actress with a secret and dangerous past.
The mission took them far north to the snowy Land of Snow, Yuki no Kuni. There, they discovered Koyuki's true identity as the Princess of the Land of Snow, and found themselves embroiled in a conflict against her power-hungry uncle, Dotō Kazahana, who sought to seize control of the country and its advanced technology.
They navigated treacherous terrain, battled formidable opponents wielding chakra armor, and ultimately confronted Dotō in a dramatic showdown within a massive ice fortress.
Through their combined efforts, they successfully defended Koyuki and helped her reclaim her rightful place as the leader of the Land of Snow. In the aftermath of the battle, a genuine bond of friendship formed between Team 7 and the newly crowned leader, Koyuki, who expressed deep gratitude for their bravery and unwavering support. The mission, initially a simple escort duty, evolved into a significant event, forging stronger ties within the team and leaving a lasting impact on a distant land.
A week after their return from the frosty Land of Snow, the day had finally arrived for the inaugural meeting of the Shizoku Josei Group – the network Raiura had envisioned. Despite her initial enthusiasm, a wave of nervousness washed over her as she made her way to the Konoha Library, where they had reserved a spacious room.
To Raiura's slight dismay, Tsunade was proving to be a rather reluctant participant. The Hokage grumbled and dragged her feet, muttering something about not being married and therefore having no business at a "clique of housewives." Shizune, trailing behind them and carrying a snorting Tonton in her arms, couldn't suppress her giggles at Tsunade's uncharacteristic resistance. Raiura, however, was determined, practically pulling Tsunade along by the arm.
"Come on, Tsunade-baa-sama! It's important!" Raiura insisted, ignoring Tsunade's protests. "It's not just about gossip, it's about connection and support! Besides," she added with a sly grin, "you being there will give the group some serious clout."
Tsunade continued to grumble, but allowed herself to be led, the sight of Shizune's barely concealed amusement doing little to improve her mood. As they approached the reserved room, Raiura's heart did a little flutter. She was excited to see if her idea would actually take off, but also anxious about how many people would show up and whether they would embrace the concept.
The room was bustling with a mix of familiar and unfamiliar faces, a tapestry of Konoha's influential women.
Nara Yoshino, with her ever-present calm demeanor, stood near a window, seemingly engaged in a quiet conversation with Akimichi Zuiho, whose ample frame radiated a gentle warmth. Aburame Amiho, her features partially obscured by her high collar, stood a little apart, though her gaze seemed to follow the movements of Inuzuka Tsume, the energetic matriarch of the Inuzuka clan, who was animatedly speaking with Yamanaka Tsugumi, her expression thoughtful as she listened.
Among the minor clan matriarchs, Bakura Wafune stood out slightly, a hint of melancholy in her eyes as she spoke with Chīro Rieka, whose vibrant clothing seemed to shift in subtle hues as she talked. Daihisaken Sayaka was in a small group with Ezama Tomoko and Fukiwake Etsuri, their conversation appearing light and friendly. Gēkko Yuan stood near the refreshments table, her expression serene as she chatted with Jūryōzawa Uzuhi, whose presence exuded a quiet strength.
Kurono Hirara was engaged in a lively discussion with Mizue Shion, their gestures animated. Onikoshi Yatsuha stood near the doorway, her arms crossed as she observed the room, while Petei Kigomei stood alone, her gaze sharp and observant. Ryūzeki Atohi and Toyoshige Uruwa were in a corner, their heads bent in private conversation, and Watashiro Ikumi stood with Yoshikane Hinazuru, their expressions serious.
Zuguchi Miruka moved through the room, briefly speaking with various attendees. The absence of a representative from the Kurama clan, and others, served as a quiet reminder of the delicate balance of trust and autonomy that existed between Konoha and its various clans.
Amidst the gathering of powerful matriarchs, Raiura's gaze suddenly snagged on a familiar face, causing her eyes to widen in surprise. Across the room, engaged in a quiet conversation with another woman she didn't recognize, stood the pregnant Nara clan member she had saved during the chaos of her return. Her belly was now even more pronounced. A wave of warmth and relief washed over Raiura at the sight of her.
Raiura, feeling a surge of nervous energy mixed with excitement, clapped her hands together to get everyone's attention. The murmur of conversations gradually died down as the assembled women settled into the circle of chairs that had been arranged. Tsunade, looking slightly less grumpy than when she arrived, cleared her throat and addressed the group.
"Alright," she began, her voice carrying a certain authority that commanded attention, "Raiura here had this… idea. Initially, it was pitched as a way for the ladies of the clans, and those married in, to socialize, connect. Which, frankly, isn't a bad thing. We all get caught up in our clan duties and sometimes forget the value of a good chat."
She paused, a knowing glint in her emerald eyes. "However," she continued, a wry smile playing on her lips, "let's not kid ourselves. We all know who truly has their finger on the pulse of this village. You all hear things. You see things. Information flows through your networks like a river. So, while the official line is 'socializing'," she winked, "let's just say that keeping our ears to the ground, unofficially, wouldn't hurt anyone."
Yoshino, ever the picture of calm composure, offered a gentle suggestion. "Perhaps it would be best if we all introduced ourselves, for those who don't know each other well." She offered a polite smile to the room. "I'll start. I am Nara Yoshino, matriarch of the Nara Clan, wife of Nara Shikaku, and mother of Nara Shikamaru."
A warm smile spread across Zuiho's round face as she nodded in agreement with Yoshino. "Well then, following Yoshino's lead, I am Akimichi Zuiho," she announced, her voice hearty and cheerful. "Matriarch of the Akimichi Clan, wife to Akimichi Choza, and proud mother of our Choji." Her introduction was delivered with an open and friendly air, making her instantly approachable.
Amiho offered a slight, almost imperceptible nod. Her voice was soft, barely above a whisper, as she spoke. "Aburame Amiho," she stated, her gaze sweeping briefly across the assembled women. "Matriarch of the Aburame Clan, wife of Aburame Shibi, and mother of Aburame Shino." Her introduction was brief and reserved, maintaining the characteristic quietness of her clan.
Tsume leaned forward, a fierce glint in her eyes and a wide, confident grin on her face. Kuromaru, perched proudly on her head, let out a small, excited bark. "Inuzuka Tsume!" she declared, her voice strong and boisterous. "Clan head and matriarch of the Inuzuka! Mother of Kiba and Hana! And don't forget Kuromaru here, practically family!" Her introduction was delivered with an infectious energy that filled the room.
Tsugumi offered a polite smile, her demeanor elegant and composed. "Yamanaka Tsugumi," she stated, her voice clear and gentle. "Matriarch of the Yamanaka Clan. I am the second wife of Yamanaka Inoichi, and mother to Yamanaka Inotsuki, as well as step-mother to Yamanaka Ino."
Wafune offered a small, polite nod. "Bakura Wafune," she said, her voice soft with a hint of resignation. "Matriarch of the Bakura Clan, third wife of Bakura Jushirō, and mother to Jinzō and my other children."
Rieka's introduction was accompanied by a subtle shift in the colors of her clothing, going from a muted lavender to a soft rose. "Chīro Rieka," she announced, her voice carrying a unique melodic quality. "Clan head and matriarch of the Chīro Clan, wife of Chīro Kanato, and mother of Harutaka and Fujuka."
Sayaka offered a warm smile that crinkled the corners of her eyes. "Daihisaken Sayaka," she said, her voice friendly and open. "Matriarch of the Daihisaken Clan, wife of Daihisaken Nao, and mother of Yakuya."
Hirara's introduction was delivered with a lively energy, her hands gesturing slightly as she spoke. "Kurono Hirara," she announced, a bright smile on her face. "Matriarch of the Kurono Clan, wife of Kurono Touma, and mother of Pegasus."
Uzuhi's voice was steady and carried a quiet authority. "Jūryōzawa Uzuhi," she stated, her gaze direct and unwavering. "Clan head and matriarch of the Jūryōzawa Clan, wife of Jūryōzawa Kyōichi, and mother of Akisato."
Yuan offered a serene smile, her voice calm and soothing. "Gēkko Yuan," she said peacefully. "Matriarch of the Gēkko Clan, wife of Gēkko Gotō, and mother of Hayate."
Tomoko offered a kind smile. "Ezama Tomoko," she said, her voice gentle. "Matriarch of the Ezama Clan, wife of Ezama Yūsei, and mother to Otoha, Satoe, and Asumi."
Yatsuha's gaze remained sharp as she gave a curt nod. "Onikoshi Yatsuha," she stated, her voice firm. "Matriarch of the Onikoshi Clan, wife of Onikoshi Amau, and mother to Yōha and Remo."
Kigomei's voice was clear and direct, holding a hint of quiet strength. "Petei Kigomei," she announced. "Clan head and matriarch of the Petei Clan. I am not married."
Shion offered a warm smile, her voice carrying a gentle lilt. "Mizue Shion," she said. "Matriarch of the Mizue Clan, wife of Mizue Eito, and mother to Aisu and Chifuyu."
Etsuri's introduction was bright and cheerful. "Fukiwake Etsuri!" she exclaimed, a smile lighting up her face. "Matriarch of the Fukiwake Clan, wife of Fukiwake Beni, and mother to Ryōka!"
Atohi spoke with a quiet dignity. "Ryūzeki Atohi," she stated, her voice calm and steady. "Matriarch of the Ryūzeki Clan, wife of Ryūzeki Genjū."
Uruwa offered a polite nod and a soft smile. "Toyoshige Uruwa," she said gently. "Matriarch of the Toyoshige Clan, wife of Toyoshige Satoomi, and mother to Michinu."
Ikumi offered a kind smile. "Watashiro Ikumi," she said, her voice gentle and warm. "Matriarch of the Watashiro Clan, wife of Watashiro Junji, and mother to Kōsuke."
Miruka's introduction was delivered with a brisk efficiency, her gaze sweeping over the group. "Zuguchi Miruka," she stated, her voice clear and direct. "Clan head and matriarch of the Zuguchi Clan, wife of Zuguchi Fujikiyo, and mother to Ryūnosaku, Chōshichirō, Pine, and Toshinobu."
Hinazuru offered a regal nod, her posture straight and her gaze steady. "Yoshikane Hinazuru," she announced, her voice carrying a quiet authority. "Clan head and matriarch of the Yoshikane Clan, wife of Yoshikane Tadayume, and mother to Kiato, Onrai, and Taun."
Tsunade leaned back in her chair, folding her arms across her chest, a wry smile playing on her lips. "Tsunade," she stated simply, her voice carrying the weight of her position. "Head of the Senju Clan and, well, matriarch, though not in the traditional sense. More like the grumpy aunt who occasionally yells at everyone." A few chuckles rippled through the group.
All eyes turned to Raiura, the last to introduce herself. Despite having faced down powerful enemies and stood alongside legendary figures, the collective gaze of these influential women made a knot form in her stomach. If she had actual wolf ears, a purely metaphorical notion, they would have been pressed flat against her head in a clear display of her nervousness. She took a breath, trying to project a confidence she didn't entirely feel. "Raiura," she began, her voice a little softer than usual. "Head and matriarch of the Uzumaki and Namikaze Clans." She offered a small, slightly shaky smile, hoping she didn't look as awkward as she felt under their scrutiny.
Fukiwake Etsuri's eyes widened in recognition, a bright smile spreading across her face. She pointed a finger at Raiura. "Wait a minute! You were that girl at our jewelry shop the other day! I remember you now. But what was it you were looking at… those delicate little things?"
Raiura's cheeks flushed a delicate pink. She could feel the weight of Tsunade's gaze boring into the side of her head, and she suddenly found the intricate patterns in the library carpet fascinating.
Tsunade's voice was deceptively calm, but held a sharp edge that only Raiura could detect. "Raiura?" she repeated, her honey brown eyes narrowed slightly, her expression a mixture of curiosity and a hint of suspicion. The unspoken question hung in the air, heavy with implication.
Raiura rubbed the back of her neck, a sheepish grin spreading across her face. "Oh, um, Baa-sama," she began, her gaze flicking nervously towards Tsunade before returning to the group. "Well, Yagura and I… we decided to get married." A few surprised gasps and murmurs rippled through the assembled women. "Since he had to head back to Kiri for a bit, we thought it would be nice to surprise each other. So, I was looking for a ring for him here in Konoha, while he's going to find one for me over there."
A flurry of excited chatter erupted among the assembled matriarchs. The news of Raiura's impending marriage to the Mizukage was clearly unexpected and sparked a wave of intense curiosity. They leaned forward, their eyes wide with a mixture of surprise and intrigue, eager to glean any information about the enigmatic leader of Kirigakure and the circumstances surrounding their union.
"The Mizukage?" Yoshino asked, her usual calm demeanor slightly ruffled by surprise. "You're marrying the Mizukage? How did this come about?"
Zuiho's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "He's quite young, isn't he? And so powerful! What's he like, Raiura-chan?"
Tsume, ever direct, chimed in, "Is he strong? A good man? You wouldn't settle for some weakling, would you?" Kuromaru barked in agreement.
Tsugumi looked thoughtful. "We've heard… rumors, of course. About his past. Is he… stable?"
Wafune's voice was soft but laced with genuine interest. "And your son… he's from a previous relationship, yes? How does the Mizukage feel about him?"
Rieka's vibrant attire seemed to pulse slightly with her excitement. "What kind of man chooses a ring for his future bride from another village? That's rather… romantic, in a way, isn't it?"
Sayaka's friendly smile widened. "Tell us everything! How did you meet? How long have you known each other?"
Hirara leaned forward eagerly. "Is he as… intense as they say? Those magenta eyes are quite striking!"
Uzuhi's gaze was steady and assessing. "What are his intentions towards Konoha? This alliance… is it truly beneficial for both villages?"
Etsuri clapped her hands excitedly. "And the ring! What style do you think he'll choose? Something bold? Something delicate?"
Atohi's quiet dignity didn't mask her curiosity. "What are his family ties like? Are there other influential figures in Kirigakure we should be aware of?"
Uruwa's soft voice held a note of genuine happiness. "You seem happy, Raiura-chan. That's the most important thing, isn't it?"
Ikumi's kind eyes held a hint of concern. "Will you be dividing your time between Konoha and Kirigakure? How will that work with your responsibilities here?"
Miruka's questions were more direct. "What are his political ambitions? What does he envision for the future of the ninja world?"
Yoshino interjected again, her voice calm but firm. "And Ryūsei? How has he taken to Yagura?"
Tsume grinned fiercely. "Just make sure he treats you right! If he doesn't, send him our way! We'll have a little chat with him!" Kuromaru growled in agreement.
Wafune's gaze held a hint of empathy. "It must be difficult, navigating a relationship across villages with such different histories."
The questions continued to pour in, a torrent of curiosity and genuine interest from the assembled matriarchs, eager to understand the woman who was about to forge a powerful and unexpected alliance through marriage. Raiura found herself blushing and stammering slightly as she tried to answer them all, the weight of their collective attention both flattering and a little overwhelming.
Tsunade, ever the pragmatist and with a protective instinct kicking in, observed Raiura's increasingly flustered state with a knowing look. Raising her voice above the excited chatter, she clapped her hands sharply. "Alright, alright, settle down, you lot!" she commanded, her Hokage aura making her words carry weight. "Give the girl some air. One question at a time, or she'll bolt out of here faster than a startled rabbit." She gave Raiura a reassuring nod. "Let's not overwhelm her on the first meeting, shall we?" The matriarchs, though still buzzing with curiosity, chuckled and gradually returned to their seats, their eager gazes still fixed on Raiura but with a slightly more restrained intensity.
Raiura, taking a moment to compose herself after the barrage of questions, turned her attention to the pregnant Nara woman she had saved. "You haven't introduced yourself yet," she said gently, a warm smile gracing her lips.
The woman chuckled, a soft, pleasant sound. "Oh, you're right. My name is Nara Kazuha." She paused, her expression becoming more serious. "And what I'm about to say needs to stay just between us, within this group only, understood?" A murmur of agreement rippled through the women. "I'm married to the ANBU Commander… Senju Fujirama."
Suddenly, a sharp choking sound cut through the air. All eyes turned to Raiura, whose own eyes were wide with shock, her mouth slightly agape. "Say that again," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Tsunade, noticing Raiura's sudden distress, frowned. "Raiura? What's wrong?"
Raiura took a deep breath, her mind racing. "What I'm about to say also needs to remain within this group," she stated, her voice low and intense. She looked at Kazuha, then back at Tsunade and the others. "My father… he was Senju Tobirama's son, with a Hatake woman. Specifically, the clan head around that time, named Hatake Minori. But," she swallowed, her heart pounding in her chest, "his other last name, one he rarely used… was Namikaze. And in some old records I managed to find… my father had an older brother. His name… was Fujirama."
A collective gasp swept through the room. The matriarchs exchanged wide-eyed glances, the implications of Raiura's words sinking in like stones dropped into a still pond. Tsunade's gaze, sharp and intense, locked onto Raiura.
"Raiura," Tsunade began, her voice low and laced with disbelief, "why have I never been told any of this? Tobirama-oji-chan had a son? Two? And this Fujirama… your uncle? Why the secrecy?"
Raiura's expression was a mix of pain and a long-held resentment. "My grandmother… Minori… she died shortly after my father was born. It was… complicated," she said, her voice tight, alluding to the circumstances surrounding Minori's death without going into detail. "Then, barely a year later, Nidaime-sama died too. He and Fujirama were supposed to be taken in by Mito-sama, the Shodaime-sama's wife. They were family, after all."
Her voice grew bitter. "But Sarutobi… he never allowed it. I don't know his reasons, not truly. All I know is that instead of being raised by family, my father was thrown into some nameless orphanage. And Fujirama… he was forced into ANBU around the age of seven or eight. Robbed of his childhood, molded into a weapon."
A dawning realization crossed Tsunade's face, her eyes widening slightly as the pieces clicked into place. The depth of Raiura's long-standing animosity towards her own sensei, Sarutobi, suddenly became chillingly clear. It wasn't just a general dislike; it was rooted in a perceived betrayal that had fractured her family and shaped her entire life. The silence in the room was heavy with the weight of this newly revealed history.
"Hold on a damn minute!" Tsume exclaimed, her eyes wide with genuine surprise. Kuromaru, ever loyal, let out a small "woof" as if to second her astonishment.
Yoshino, a sly smile playing on her lips, drawled in a deliberately teasing tone, "Well, Tsume. It seems you actually managed to use your brain for once to figure that out." A wave of laughter rippled through the assembled matriarchs, the unexpected humor breaking the tension of the recent revelations.
Tsume's cheeks flushed a light pink. "Hey! I use my brain plenty! Just because I speak my mind doesn't mean I don't think!" She huffed indignantly, but a smile soon tugged at the corners of her lips as she couldn't help but join in the general amusement.
Raiura watched the playful exchange, a genuine smile spreading across her face. For the first time in a long while, she felt a lightness in her chest, a sense of being able to let go of the constant tension that had been her companion for so long. These meetings, this unexpected connection with these powerful women, it was more than just about gathering information. It was about finding a sense of belonging, a feeling of freedom akin to the hawks that once soared over the ruins of her lost home, Uzushio.
