I'll be adding phrases from the light novels and maybe the side novels if i rmb them so erm enjoy the read

Scene change..
Subaru and the others continued their stroll through the city without any further interruptions.

"Anyways, let's plan our negotiation with the Songstress Fanatic again tomorrow," Otto said with enthusiasm.

A snort came from an exasperated-looking Anastasia. "Seems like ya still need some lessons on negotiations Natsuki-kun. I've learnt my lesson not to bet on ya."

"Subaru-kyun is a bumbling buffoon as always nya," teased Felix.

Otto tried to defend his brother half-heartedly. "H-hey it wasn't really his fault. The Songstress was to blame for rushing i-"
Petra and Rem too indignantly voiced her support for her hero.

"Mimi too thinks that the mini boss was not wrong here!" Mimi said excitedly, causing her brother to sigh at her sister's words.

Which led to him being bonked by her wand.

"It's okay Otto-kun, we know that Subaru wasn't to blame~." Emilia remarked with a cheerful grin, while gripping her faithful knight's hand softly.

"I've got some matters to take care of, so I need to head out."

"Matters?" Emilia questioned as she tilted her head.

"Yes. It's not every day we get to be in Priestella, so I'm paying some visits." replied Otto with a smile.

Roswaal's dead eyes widened as a realization hit him. He muttered to himself "Ah ~ .I se-e-e that was your plan all along Ottoooo. Even I lacked the foresight to recover my Teacher's gospel~. For I had thought it burnt and lost forever-r-r ."
Ram glared at Otto as she made plans to dispose of the book that was the cause of Roswaal's machinations and to minus a further 10 points of her already dismal image of him.

"I can only hope more secrets from our camp stays hidden." Otto gulped while unconsciously pressing a hand to the burnt book in his pocket. Beads of sweat trickled down his face.

"Well someone's a hard worker," Subaru remarked as the group collectively waved at Otto's departing figure.

"What's this? I'm picking up a new scent at the inn," Garfiel growled as his attention was seized by some familiar voices arguing.

The group hurried and as they did so, a Japanese style structure came into view as at the front of the establishments were-

"Stop makin' me repeat myself ! Just shut up and bring me your boss!"

"Hold on a secon' . Isn't he one of the thugs cap'n met on his first day!" Garfiel exclaimed while pounding his fists on the seats of the chair.

"That idiot's name is Lachins. He was part of the people I brought into my camp," Felt explained
"Ah. Not this guy again.." Ricardo groaned as he recognized him.

Julius nodded to himself. "Shouldn't he be kept away, seeing as how he murdered Subaru in cold blood without any reason?"

"Seeing as how over half the people here has "murdered" bro too, that wouldn't make any sense pal. Or they've even left him for dead ." Al noted dryly, while shaking his head.

Most of the people in the theater looked down with guilty expressions, save for Priscilla who was unbothered by the commoners rabble.

Emilia guiltily looked down, the memories of her incompetence and insecurities leading to Subaru's death, still fresh in her mind.

Rem grimaced as she clenched her fists tightly and gripped her hero's hand just a smidge tighter. She could still remember how she ruthlessly tortured her beloved, butchering him while he pleaded for his life. How heartbroken he was, when she turned on him.

Garfiel could only grit his teeth as he painfully remembered how he watched himself tear his supposed "brother" to pieces.

Crusch refused to show any emotion on her face, except for the slight trembling of gloved hands.

"You are not wrong, I suppose," Beatrice said as she hugged her contractor's waist somewhat apprehensively.

"Someone as crude as you doesn't deserve to see my master, not even my brother. Please leave." Joshua barred entry to the inn, not giving an inch to the seedy-looking man who was angrily shouting at him.

"You just don't know how to listen,do you, brat?! How about I just beat your ass!"

"That's enough!"

Before the situation could escalate any further, Emilia interrupted the two. The diversion left Lachins and Joshua both gazing in shock at her.

"Emilia-sama. You've returned!" Joshua spoked.

"What happened? Let's calm down and talk this over."

Priscilla sneered in disdain behind her fan as she beheld Emilia interrupting the peasants arguing."What foolishness is this half-devil doing? How utterly tedious. Only a fool would attempt to talk with a commoner."

Glares were directed towards the fiery princess.

"Tch- You would just lop his head off just like the idiot you are," Felt snorted.

"That is not too bad of an idea, street rat." Priscilla declared, with a contemptuous snort.

"Well I think that Emilia-sama is wonderful for trying to work out this situation smoothly," Petra beamed with a prideful smile. Frederica commented while patting her student's head cheerfully.

"Very well said my student."

"Screw this, and everything here! This damn brat won't let me in!"

"Wait, I've seen this guy somewhere…." Subaru mused. Scenes from the day they met flashed in Subaru's head.

"It's Chin!"

"The hell's Chin?! My name's Lachins!" he said angrily

"Lachins? So you are really a chin!", noted Subaru with a chuckle

"Screw off!"

When Subaru wrapped an arm around his shoulder in a spontaneous act of camaraderie, Chin- or rather, Lachins- violently shook him off.

"I'm sorry for his rude behaviour. Me and Rein here will be sure to beat some discipline into his ass when we get home." Felt declared to Anastasia.

"No worries.I'm quite looking forward to it", replied the shrewd merchant.

Reinhard with a worried glance at Felt, muttered "F-felt-sama but he may be grievously injure-,"

Felt rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at him

"C'mon you gotta learn how to take a joke for once!"

"Do you know him, Subaru?" Emilia asked.

"Yeah, from the capital. This really takes me back. He and his friends tried to mug me."

Subaru should hold more resentment! How can he even forgive them after all that happened in the past? Petra irritably thought.

The Sword Saint tried not to allow his self-flagellation to overcome him, as he once again cursed himself for not taking Subaru home with him, that fateful day.

"Subaru-dono really has a forgiving heart to be able to exonerate them," Wilhelm sighed while remembering how Subaru was mugged and killed in a past loop, left to die like a dog in the streets.

Crusch monotonously stated as she nodded her head in agreement,"What else can he do? Those past loops were but a distant memory for him. He would not possess even a shred of evidence to back himself up."

"It was us imperial knights' lack of care that led it to even happening," Julius angrily replied. If only they patrolled more areas of the capital and did their job more diligently!

"Howeverr~, that meeting was what led to him meeting Emilia, was it noot-t-t ?" Roswaal sang out to the whole theater as he tried to reason with them. "If it wasn't for that fated meeting, most of us here would have died, would we not? Although I can't deny that it led to suffering for that boy."

Roswaal narrowed his eyes as he challenged them all to refute his claim. Ram stared disappointedly at Roswaal, as he needlessly taunted and antagonised the entire theater. One of his annoying habits that he still hadn't stopped doing.

By now, everyone had learned to ignore the clown, as the knights themselves had personally learnt not long ago.

"Tis but a clown's useless blabbering. I do not have the patience for your antics," Priscilla snarled.

i remembered this happening in the arc 4 react fic*

"From what Betty hears, he must be trash I suppose," Betty mercilessly remarked

"After knowing what he has done, he has not even earned the title of "trash", I suppose " Betty pondered, but chose not to say anything lest she provoke the ire of the theater.

"Yeah, he is trash," Mimi mocked. Petra voiced her support in tandem.

"The hell are you callin' trash?!

"Just leave this to me. You son of a.." Garfiel opened his jade eyes as his pupils shrank, his fighting instincts being set off.

"I was wondering what was taking you so long, Lachins. What's all the commotion about?"

There was no mistaking the sensation that shot through Subaru's entire body, as that was what happens when an ordinary person sets eyes upon a hero. Reinhard.

Without a word, Garfiel's left arm grew in size as sharp claws sprang from it and he proceeded to swipe at Reinhard at point-blank.

"Garffffff, you've been a naughty boy it seems," Emilia pouted.

Ram snorted as she witnessed his antics, not one bit surprised by his brash behaviour. "Punching first and asking questions later is second nature to Garf after all"

Frederica admonished Garfiel saying, "GARF? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO TO THE SWORD SAINT?. APOLOGIZE RIGHT THIS INSTANT." She looked at him disbelievingly and pulled his ear sternly.

"Siss..? I'm sorry, mines' amazin' self reacted on instinct not knowing it was Reinhard, den i must have panicked and swiped at him," he explained apologetically with a tear in his eye.

"Apologize to him now!", demanded Felt as she glared at the golden tiger. She pointed at him with an outraged glare. How dare they try to attack her knight!

"It's all right Felt-sama, I am a monster after all. Who wouldn't be terrified of me," Reinhard gazed down sadly at the ground.

Felt wanted to diminish her knight's suffering but she couldn't seem to find the correct words. Instead she opted to punch his shoulder affectionately and sighed.

Wilhelm winced as he once again remembered his past actions. No matter how much he regretted what had occurred, the past could not be changed. He hoped that talking with his grandson once again would at least alleviate the boy's mental turmoil.

Felix and Julius both shook their heads, thinking of the scolding the foolhardy teen should have received.

Reinhard's upraised hand stopped Garfiel's arms as if it weighed nothing. The only reaction he showed was the wry smile spreading across his serene face.

"Reinhard," Subaru uttered with surprise.

"Hi there, Subaru. It's been too long. I've heard the stories. I'm glad you're doing well. By the way, Subaru, I know it's been a whole year, but could you stop your friend for a bit?".

Subaru urged him, "Calm down Garfield!

"This guy's Reinhard! He's uh… my friend! Don't worry about him."

At this Reinhard felt a sense of happiness, but also unease at the same time. He pondered whether he had even earned the title of friend. If he had only taken Subaru that fateful day, he could have avoided suffering and countless tribulations.

Having been by his side for a while, Felt now knew how to read the slightest of emotions even if her foolish knight didn't outwardly show anything.

"Ya hear me? Stop thinkin' that you're unworthy of his friendship 'kay?" Felt patted his back roughly albeit with good intentions.

An unexpected voice interjected,"Don't think so lowly of yourself, Reinhard-sama. I'm sure Subaru considers you a friend nor does he hold any grudge against you." Rem chimed in.

"He…. considers me a friend?"

"Subaru-kun is probably wary of how to talk to you, after how he treated you at the royal capital last year. I'm sure he doesn't have any lingering resentment." Rem softly whispered, just audible enough for him to hear.

"A-ah, I hope so…," muttered Reinhard apprehensively, hoping against hope that she was right.

"Thanks for helping my dumb knight!" Felt grinned appreciatively.

Wilhelm bowed his head in gratitude at Rem, in appreciation for her words of encouragement towards his grandson. She nodded, wanting to ease her guilt if not for a while, as her scenes of self-sacrifice still stinged in her mind.

"Sissy.." Ram said as they clung to each other, enjoying the warmth of her sister.

"As he just told you, I am Reinhard van Astrea. I would be grateful if you told me your name. "

"Ch- Garfiel Tinsel", he curtly replied.

"I see! So you're Lady Emilia's shield. I'm glad to meet you." As he spoke, he reached out for a handshake but subconsciously, Garfiel experienced an unknown emotion for the first time. Fear . He opened his eyes wide and took a step backwards.

Reinhard's eyes flickered slightly with a touch of sadness "I'm sorry if I offended you. I'll be careful next time."

Otto closed his eyes and sighed. The minister noted how this was the sort of thing that normally threatened to trigger open warfare between two rival factions. They were lucky that Reinhard was a forgiving person.

Priscilla scoffed and muttered under her breath, "Ugh, what a petulant child. He should learn his place and respect his betters."

"Again. I'm sorry for how my brother is acting. He still has more growing up to do it seems." Frederica bowed her head politely, apologizing for her brother's actions.

Garfield stood up and shook his head, not even using 'mine's amazing self' to refer to himself . "I spose' I'm sorry for the way I'm acting. It was out of line by me"

"Barusu's uncouth tendencies have rubbed off even more on you Garf, " Ram ruthlessly remarked with her arms crossed.

"No it's alright, you've already apologized after all," Reinhard warmly replied.

"Reinhard, I'm sorry about him. Are you okay?" It was just then that Emilia hurried over with a little run to apologize for Garfiel's sudden act of violence.

"Lady Emilia, it has been a while. Fortunately, his aim was so precise that I could stop him without any problems."

Garfiel averted his eyes, thoughts swirling inside his head.

"I heard from Felt-chan that you've been achieving really good results."

Reinhard downplayed his actions, "Compared to your amazing exploits, they're still very minor. Subaru, care to tell me more about your fight with the White Whale later? That Witchbeast isn't unrelated to me, either."

"I think that ya need not hear that story anymore, Saint-Sword sama," muttered Anastasia dryly, grinning.

Reinhard sheepishly replied, "I guess not."

"Your duties are surely onerous in of itself Reinhard," Emilia said, with a wave of her hand.

Rem shook her head, barely suppressing giggles. Who even says onerous in this day and age?

Mimi excitedly jumped up and down. "I wanna see the fight again. Can i can i pleaseee Warden-sama? I wanna see the fight again!."

"Mimi calm down, you're just creating a nuisance for everyone here. Please sit back down," Tivey pleaded with his sister which of course earned him a smack from her wand.

Ricardo just threw his head back and laughed at the duo's shenanigans.

"It wouldn't be that bad of an idea," Crusch mumbled, grabbing her arm, still feeling the phantom pain from the earlier viewings. Felix worriedly stared at her, putting his hand over hers.

"Yeah, sure. But before that… Do you know Lachins or something?"

"Yes, he's currently working under Felt-sama."

"Lachins," Reinhard ordered, "I'll handle the rest. Please tell Felt-sama to return to the inn soon."

"Yeah sure."

"If anything happens, please give me a signal. I'll be there in five seconds"

"It's scary how it sounds like you're actually serious," Lachin laments as his figure disappears into the distance.

"Is that another divine protection that you possess? The power of instant teleportation?" teased Julius

Al perked up and snorted , "I wouldn't put it past Od Laguna to actually give you something like that bro,"

"Surely you jest , although I do have the divine protection of swift running which functions similarly." Reinhard explained. "Lachins can manifest a blaze of fire, meant to summon me to his location."

"Knowing Barusu, he will surely use this fact to dump the work onto someone else," Ram's face contorted in mock disappointment.

Scene change to the inn…

The group entered the inn. Garfiel was lagging behind, a gloomy expression visible on his face. Subaru mulled over what to say to him.

"Looks like he's still upset about earlier."

"It might be good for him once in a while. It's a good reminder that there's still someone stronger than him, I suppose."

Garfiel looked down thoughtfully as he pondered carefully what Beatrice said. Her words had weight to them.

Frederica looked at him with a worried expression, on edge of any change in the boy's appearance.

"Now, please wait here until Lady Anastasia returns. If you'll excuse me," Joshua declared as he opened the sliding screen. A familiar pair could be seen sitting and overlooking the garden.

"Oh, Subawu-kyun!"

"Long time no see," Crusch spoke in a soft tone.

Subaru happily exclaimed , "Ferris! Ms. Crusch! And ! Great to see you!"

A slight blush could be seen on Crusch's face unnoticed by almost no one. I hope for us to grow closer than that of mere companions, Natsuki Subaru.

"It seems like I need to protect you from future advances Subaru-kun," Rem whispered as she sat back next to her hero's sleeping body, and held his hand almost ..protectively.

"Grandfather…."
"Reinhard." An awkward silence stretched between these two, while Subaru's eyes darted between the two in confusion.

Reinhard could only look down guiltily. Things were still as tense as ever with his grandfather, he had tried every possible way to drive the painful memories of his past away.

Hm, even at that time, things were still as uncomfortable as ever. At least in this place, I had the opportunity to attempt to mend things with him. How ironic. Wilhelm mused to himself.

Mimi cheerfully remarked, "Wow, that was pretty awkward!"

Ricardo patted her head, understanding she tried to liven up the atmosphere . Tivey shook his head and muttered "Mimi…", having learnt his lesson not to say anything reckless.

Scene changes to the main figures from multiple camps seated around a long table in the center of the room, sitting on square floor cushions in the traditional Japanese style. Mimi can be seen piggy-backing Garfiel.

"I didn't think she'd call you here too Crusch-san," Subaru commented.

"The same goes for us. We didn't expect you all here. It's a fortunate coincidence."

Emilia quietly whispered to Subaru, "I'm surprised and Reinhard were related. But they're not meeting each other's gazes."

Emilia winced. "I'm sorry for how my words may appear, Wilhelm-sama, Reinhard. I tend to be absent minded at times, " She bowed her head forgivingly.

"No worries Emilia-sama."

"I accept your apology, Lady Emilia."

"Hah, the half-wit bows down to commoners as per she not learnt of her place, what else could be new?," Priscilla smirked viciously, fanning herself arrogantly.

Al shook his head, replying in a calm tone "Princess, please stop making enemies out of everyone again. It's gonna be a pain in the ass for me," . He thought again of how they were to weather the situation, once they got out of this accursed theater.

"Silence, mineself did not remember giving you permission to speak," Priscilla slammed him to the floor with a kick from her foot, silencing him.

Subaru questioned "So, why did Anastasia call you guys here?"

"You're doubtin' us a bit too much. I really just wanted to have a little chat, that's all."

"Natsuki-kun does indeed have the right to be suspicious, I'm sure those failed loops taught him a valuable lesson. If anything, I'm surprised he isn't more distrustful of us," Anastasia sighs with a shake of her head.

Otto agreed. "I'm glad Natsuki-san is using his head more often now. After all, my lessons with him turned out not to be a waste."

"Which is why I didn't bother invitin' the unreasonable folks."

"Unreasonable…?"

Emilia frowned as she prompted back, as there was only one camp absent.

"So I take it you didn't invite Lady Priscilla, then?" Reinhard asked.

"They do things completely in their own way, so I couldn't think of an excuse to call them over. Well, at least Felt and I are a bit closer now."
"An excuse?"

Don't go thinking I'm an innocent lil' brat lady. I'm used to people like you, trying to glean information any way you possibly can. Felt smirked.

Anastasia offered a small grin sarcastically towards the baroness. "Seems like i owed ya an apology seeing how I didn't bother to send an invitation to you nor a correspondence."

"Rejoice that you are blessed by the goddess herself. It is inevitable that something is bound to leak out, for you are not the only one who keeps an ear out for the movement of others." Priscilla declared, fanning herself self-assuredly.

Hmm, I may need to keep an eye out for her. Anastasia chided herself mentally. Clearly she underestimated her rival, taking a mental note for the future.

Al muttered quietly under his breath, "Well, princess finding out about the meeting was bound to happen one way or another."

"If you all were comin' anyway, I thought I'd at least prepare a lil' gift."

Roswaal's eyes gleamed as he tried to discern the merchant's motive. Just what are your intentions here with this meeting Anastasia-sama?

"Then for Crusch-san, that would be…." Subaru glanced over at Crusch's camp.

"We came here because Anastasia-san claimed to have information regarding the Archbishop of Gluttony." Crusch had a look of determination on his face. Her words had made Subaru unwittingly rise to his feet. He aimed a glare at Anastasia as if by reflex.

Keep your cool Natsuki-san please! Remember your lessons! Otto pleaded inwardly. Surely you've learnt to keep your temper now!

Emilia questioned with a worried look on his face "Subaru's not gonna lose his temper is he?"

"Have a little more faith in Betty's contractor, in fact." Beatrice hugged her contractor, believing that he would weather the situation.

Julius came to the defense of his boyfrien- "Have a little more confidence in Subaru, he has definitely learnt to stay composed. In the past he may only have relied on instinct, but I'm sure he's planned ahead."

"Whoa chill bro, no one's attacking your boyfriend." Al smirked, turning to him and mocking him.

"Well now Natsuki-kun, a merchant's gotta be paid back in kind after all. I hope ya don't look too badly upon me." Anastasia commented, wanting to see how it all played out while tugging at her scarf.

The duchess muttered under her breath to no one in particular "I hope that I will be of some help to Subaru, as it wouldn't be fair for me to withhold the information."

"Don't worry Crusch-sama! I'm sure that you will help other people too nya! " Felix good-naturedly added.

"Now, don't get me wrong here Natsuki-kun. It's just that Crusch-san here is the better buyer.

"A merchant through and through, huh? Ticks me off, but I understand your logic."

"It seems you're more mature now."

"Shut it! Don't tempt me when I'm barely holding it in!"

Subaru barely avoided exploding in front of everyone. However, Julius couldn't resist adding a jab in.

Felt chuckled "Damn 'finest knight', you really couldn't stop yourself trying to add more fuel to the fire eh?"

"I believe that I was trying to compliment him. It's not my fault that he took it the wrong way," Julius arrogantly retorted, with a wave of his hand to boot.

"Now I can see why you and Big Bro always fight like a married couple."

Otto let out a sigh of relief. He was glad Subaru was learning from him. It seems all his effort last year didn't go to waste!

Hmph! Betty could never be wrong about her contractor. Beatrice mused as she nuzzled into his chest.

"Typical Barusu. At least he learnt his lesson well. I shall have to revise my image of him!" Ram solemnly said, feeling herself to be the correct judge of his character.

"Only more evidence of your obsession with him." Al shook his head.

"You said it!" Ricardo added with a grin. "This pink haired maid has a certain obsession with him, almost… romantic in nature!"

The two partners in crime couldn't help colluding once again against the maid.

"Please choke on your own spit and die a sad miserable death." the pink haired maid stated threateningly.

"Now, don' go makin' that face now. I'm not going to hide it from you. Crusch-san here doesn't want to leave you out. She's a goody-two-shoes through and through."

Her words left Subaru flabbergasted as he turned towards Crusch. She had a contemplative expression on her face.

"Naturally, I wish to settle things with Gluttony myself, as it concerns my memories. However, I am also aware that it is your fondest wish to help Rem."
"Crusch-san….."

Emilia beamed at Crusch with a thankful look in her eye. "I always believed in you Crusch-sama."

Rem elegantly bowed, thankful for her selflessness. "Thank you, Crusch-sama. I appreciate your help and generosity, helping someone you don't even recognise" She felt a warmth in her chest, knowing that someone offered to help her in spite of her being forgotten by virtually everyone.

Felix couldn't resist singing his lady's praises, proud of how she was even if her memories were gone. "Of course! Crusch-sama is a selfless soul through and through. Even without her memories, her spirit still remains."

"There is no need to thank me Rem-san , we are kindred spirits after all. It's a debt I ought to repay after you saved me."

"Besides, I believe it would be better with more people to our cause. No hard feelings, no matter whose blade reaches him first."

"Really, thank you. I'll definitely answer your expectations. I will. I know it"

You needn't worry Subaru, my expectations of you have gone far beyond your imagination. Crusch thought, with a note of affection.

The great spirit had a foreboding feeling as she held her contractor's body more tightly.

"Even so, we will likely reach him first." Crusch puffed out her chest, undaunted.

"Grrrr, you seem to be having fun, Lady Crusch. He already has one flower in each hand. He doesn't need any more." Ferris angrily exclaimed.

The baroness' cheeks reddened slightly off the exchange, not wanting to offer a word.

Rem averted her eyes downward, as she tried to hide the blush creeping upon her face.

Ram didn't need to look at her sister's face to guess how she was feeling, the synesthesia telling her all she needed to know. Hmph, Barusu. It is your fault that sissy is feeling this way. When you awaken you shall have to pay for it by serving me for the rest of your life, she vowed, with a flourish of her hand.

Emilia felt a pang of jealousy that she had to fight down knowing how much her knight treasured Rem. Still, she didn't intend to lose to her in feelings and wouldn't back down from the challenge issued by the three of them.

*erm i forgot where in the arc 4 react fic but im pretty sure they all said they were gonna have a competition for his heart(?)*

"Oh? Looks like everyone's here! It's surprising how little you've all changed despite a whole year passing by! Well, the same goes for me too, I guess" The door to the reception room opened, and everyone's gazes assembled on the familiar face.

"Here comes the main heroine!" Felt laughed, happy at the easygoing scenes on the screen preferring them to the scenes of torture her big bro was usually subjected to.

Priscilla rubbed her temple, feeling bored with all of this "Mineself should not be subjected to this ' only a matter of time before the world turns in my favour."

"Whatever ya say 'princess'."

"Felt-sama! What happened to the attire you were given to wear in public?" questioned Reinhard.

"Ha! You expect me to go along with your taste? Sightseeing was the perfect excuse to find myself some proper clothes!"

"Hah Rein dear, that reminds me of the times you forced me into dresses only for me to not wear them," Felt looked positively delighted at having pulled a fast one on the nation's strongest warrior.

Reinhard replied with a chuckle "You were and still are a handful, Felt-sama," He remembered of the many painful times he tried to get Felt to dress formally, but to little success, while sighing inwardly.

"Truly, you are so…."

I know how it feels too pal. Al empthaized as he too had to deal with a troublesome and fiery master.

"I am truly grateful for the invitation. Now, let us have a fruitful discussion as fellow candidates. Okay, formalities over! Let me in the talks, yeah?"

"You are similar to Subaru-dono in that vein, Felt-sama," Wilhelm noted with amusement.

"That, I have to agree with." Julius nodded his head and proclaimed with enthusiasm. "They both will certainly need a lesson on etiquettes and manner, for which I am more than happy to provide for."

Felt shuddered, sensing hours of boredom awaiting her if she were to agree to the offer. "No thanks buddy."

Julius looked downcast, his offer rejected once again.

"I have to say, this is a weird city. This building's weird too. Seeing all this unusual stuff everywhere is wearing me out!"

"You never cease to amaze me. Unusual, you say? If you think of it that way, then I'm happy. This ryokan's still got plenty more to offer," Anastasia admitted.

"Oh man, this screen sure loves to divulge surprises. This gal was saving the surprise for when y'all arrived at the inn." Anastasia crossed her arms and pouted in annoyance.

"Mm, I certainly can't wait. I really want to see what a big bath would feel like." Emilia said, excited.

Mimi started bouncing on her seat eagerly dreaming of the hot spring already. "A hot spring? I wanna try it!" She started shaking her brother, demanding him to bring her there right now! In fact, what's stopping the warden from summoning one here right now?

Felt tried to contain her excitement "The hot spring sounds great! Back in the slums, a chance to soak in hot water was hard to come by, and I loved it. By the way, you aren't gonna rescind your offer right?"

"A merchant never goes back on her words after all."

Scene change to Subaru relaxing on a massage chair.

"Ah, this is heaven!"

"The theory that Hoshin of the Wastes is an outworlder is starting to make more sense." Al remarked with a casual nod of his head.

Heads turned and questioning looks were aimed his way, but Al chose not to elaborate, indicating that the topic was closed.

"That machine looks remarkably similar to what Betty's Subaru has told her about, in fact" Beatrice added, with a smug face.

Emilia curiously replied "Beako-o-o, what did you mean by that?"

Beatrice happily explained, wanting to boast about exclusive knowledge that only she knew. "From what Betty has been told, there exists machines and contraptions similarly designed to decompress the body. Even though it looks different, the principle behind it is still the same, I suppose." She stopped from divulging more information, as she could see the merchant princess' eyes gleaming with hunger.

"Ah, I'm sure Subaru would be happy to have one back the manor. He of all people could certainly use one." Emilia thoughtfully asserted.

"I wouldn't mind givin' Natuski-kun one, I reckon he does deserve it." Anastasia nodded. "Think of it as a small gift from the Anastasia camp!"

"Emilia-sama, that's just going to end up as more work for me….." the poor Minister of Internal Affairs complained.

"Cap'n"

"What's up?"

"Sorry, but do ya mind if I head out for a bit?"
"Don't worry, Garfiel. You're plenty strong."

"But not the strongest. That ain't good enough." Garfiel had a look of frustration on his face, as he turned and walked out of the inn.

"Damn right, I am. There are some things even my amazin' self can't reach, even with trainin' enough to tear my arms off ," Garfield self-deprecatingly said.

Wilhelm's expression softened as he looked at Garfiel. "You have potential young Garfiel. Do not let someone's strength deter your resolve in spite of seemingly insurmountable walls. Take it from an old man like me, the only person you should compare with, is the person you were yesterday. Let the insecurity talking to you become but a mere nonexistent voice."

Felix cheerfully added. "Everyone has these fears from time to time, don't let it get to you too deeply."

"W-wow old man, I appreciate the words. I'm not so weak as to lose my head like before. I'mma take it to heart and have a real think ," the blonde boy declared firmly.

His sister looked on with a proud expression. How glad she was, that her young brother had proper role models to look up to.

"He'll get back to his feet after a good night's rest." Subaru muttered, resuming his massage session with the chair.

Peek. Peek peak… Suddenly, an adorable spirit peeked out from behind a wall.

Sneak.. Sneak sneak.. Sneak sneak…

" How is it, I wonder?" she tried to get the attention of her beloved contractor, attempting to charm him.

"Bea-ko? What's with that getup?!"

"Beako-chan! You are absolutely delightful here! You're adorableness knows no bounds." Emilia cooed teasingly as she hugged the spirit.

"Hpmm of course! Betty is the cutest spirit around, second to no one. Such a feat is more trifling than a cupcake." Beatrice contentedly held her head high, while she wiggled and tried to escape Emilia's grasp. "RELEASE ME, I SUPPOSE."

Must control, must control… Frederica had to hold herself back, her primal instincts urging her to leap out and take the spirit for herself.

"Beatrice-chan is so cute! Look how hard she wants Subaru's attention," Petra giggled.

Mimi pouted, confident her charm was just as, if not more than Beatrice.

"Hm-hm. Today's Betty is a different flavour than usual!"

"Amazing! They even got yukatas here?! Bea-ko, you're so pretty! Bea-ko, you're so lovely!" Subaru was floored by the sight of her in a yukata.

When are you going to awake, I suppose ? Betty misses her Subaru's headpats, it has been far too long, in fact. Betty will wear a yukata for you, as many times as you want . Betty mused sadly, missing her contractor's usual jokes and his scary but caring eyes. She rubbed her cheek with his, hoping he would awake from the spell.

"Don't get too carried away, Subaru." The ethereal figure of Emilia wearing a yukata, the nape of her neck barely visible, appeared in front of him . (lucky bastard! )

"Emilia…taaaan?!" Subaru's cheeks promptly reddened.

Subaru you dunderhead! Emilia blushed, covering her face. She felt embarrassed but glad at the same time, how Subaru was enamoured with her.

"Big bro's a real softie. He should demand more!"

"Felt-sama manners please!" Reinhard pleaded.

Ricardo whistled loudly. "What a sight for the eyes she must be, I can imagine the thoughts running through his mind right now."

"Well deserved by bro, I must say." Al commented, glad his bro was having a feast for the eyes.

"So this is what Subaru-kun is into? I must hasten my efforts at once!" Rem vowed to herself, redoubling her efforts to actively seduce Subaru. Meanwhile, through her synesthesia, a certain pink-hair maid understood the feelings coming from her sister. She huffed in disappointment, making up her mind to protect her from Barusu's perverted harassment!

"Subaru? You're breathing heavily through your nose. Do you have a fever?"

"A slight fever of love, maybe..." An indignant loli could be seen, annoyed that her contractor's attention was diverted away from her.

"As always, Barusu has no control over himself." Ram held her head high, glad that Subaru's perverted tendencies were finally brought to light. "We see a Barusu in his natural habitat, lusting and craving for the innocent Emilia-sama."

"Uh-huh! Anything except for that dreaded thorn bush!" Ricardo taunted her, enjoying her reaction. Ricardo guffawed alongside his brother-in-arms.

Ram ignored them, staying silent as more words just meant more ammunition.

"You see Emilia-sama, Subaru-kyun is but a wolf in sheep's clothing. You need to protect yourself at once!" Ferris couldn't miss this chance to tease the man.

Emilia shook her head, slightly disappointed in her onscreen self. "Mm my knight wouldn't try anything. I'm moreso disappointed that I didn't try anything instead, or respond to his advances…"

"Are you the same Emilia-sama that I once knew? The past you would have never said that." Crusch chuckled, surprised by the change in the half-elf. She had really came out of her shell, after the past viewings reaffirmed Subaru's feelings for her.

"Well Crusch-sama, I've had a realization that should I act too slowly, people could snatch him away."

Crusch replied with a smirk, not backing down from the challenge issued.

"Hey! They told me in the bath. I heard my garbage knight bullied your blonde boy,"

The voice speaking turned out to be Felt, who was with Reinhard, Crusch and Ferris.

"Felt-sama, we merely had a misunderstanding. He's actually tremendously powerful despite his young age."

"That patronizing lack of self-awareness really isn't convincing…."

"By the way, Felt-sama, those clothes suit you well."

"Shaddap." Felt retorted, with her tongue out.

"Felt-sama, do you not like it when I always compliment you? I'm sure I was just expressing my honest thoughts…" Reinhard gazed down sadly, disappointed that even his divine protection of sweet talk couldn't work.

Felt sighed, covering her face with her palm. "Rein you idiot, if you keep complimenting me, it's going to sound fake after a while. You gotta learn from big a bumbling idiot, knows how to properly charm people"

"Man, you're really rough on Reinhard, aren't you? Well, I started with ulterior motives, so I guess Crusch and Ferris have the most ideal relationship."

"Subaru you dummy! You shouldn't go saying that to everyone you meet!"

Emilia promptly turned red from her head to tips of her ears, after knowing full well the extent of Subaru's ulterior motives from start to finish.

Rem shook her head sadly, knowing that she herself hadn't been approached with those same motives. However, she had struck a deal with the Great Guardian Spirit of the soon-to-be Natsuki bloodline. She exchanged a knowing glance with Beatrice, who had a cheeky grin herself.

"As usual, Barusu is but a lustful monster, his head is filled with nothing but perverted thoughts!"

"You're just jealous that he didn't approach you with ulterior motives instead." Al teased her, his reward being a glare from the seething pink oni.

"Hearing you say that makes me blush. Right Ferris?"

"Well, I definitely have ulterior motives for you, Crusch-sama."

Instantly, the baroness gasped in surprise as the air in the reception room froze over.
"Okay, we should eat now."

"Subaru-sama! Please don't run away while leaving the mood like that!"

Crusch lamented with tearful eyes as Subaru tried to retreat to dinner.

"Don't worry, we were just joking awound!"

"Felix, even if my future self were to remain amnesiac, it would be unbecoming of a knight to take advantage of his master. I hope you were not serious about those words."

"Ferris, even in this theater, I cannot approve of your future self's actions. Cease courting chaos by teasing the lords and retainers in attendance. Preying on someone's naivete is not adorable in the slightest."

"Boo. You guys are so strict with me, sheesh."
Wihlem's gravitas-filled lecture and Crusch's admonishment made Ferris pout and surrender. The wind of untruth did not swirl around the cat boy, who subtly twisted his words so as no to arouse suspicion.

As the rest of the theater got back to watching, the look in Ferris's eyes for an instant, was of pure agony. This change did not go unnoticed by Roswaal and Priscilla, who took note of a possible weakness to exploit against a royal candidate's retainer in the future.

So this half-freak of a man harbors feelings for his own mistress and even decides to speak falsehoods? Disgusting. He is not fit to be a retainer, much less a knight! Priscilla fanned herself irritably, her temper close to boiling over.

Scene changes to Garfiel standing in deep thought in one of Priestella's many streets, overlooking a view of the whole city in dusk.

"You really are spineless. You already know why you keep seeing me, right?"

A familiar figure appeared like a phantom, taunting him.

Wilhelm raised an eyebrow, he himself had gone through similar experiences in the past, having fought countless battles. Hm? Young Garfield is going through something similar to what I have encountered numerous times it seems. Wilhelm decided to wait for an opportune moment to reveal itself, hoping to help Garfiel get over his fears.

"What?! But the Bowel Hunter died a year ago, crushed to death by Garf. Didn't we just watch it happen?" Mimi worriedly questioned, confused by what she was watching.

Frederica felt a strong sense of guilt. It turns out she had not figured out the extent of her brother's insecurities. However, she felt that now was not the time to speak words of support. It would soon show itself, she believed.

Garfiel kept quiet, realizing that his insecurities and worries were being shown on screen. He wondered how much more would be shown on the magical screen.

Ricardo patted her head comforting her, knowing she was just concerned for him. "Don't worry Mimi, all of us are just as confused as you are."

"Shut up! Shut your mouth!" Garfiel roared, his claws tearing through what should have been flesh and blood, but instead only swiping uselessly at the air.

"That's right. You are weak. The only reason you didn't get killed by me was simply by pure luck. And the reason you were able to kill me was pure coincidence."

The Bowel Hunter- Elsa - appeared on the ledge of a building, mocking the young boy once again.

"Shut up!"

"You're weak, after all. You're nothing more than a spineless weakling…. yet you still murdered me." Elsa appeared behind Garfiel once more, whispering maliciously into his ear. He turned, ready to tear through her, but her vision vanished into thin air.

The screen paused, the Warden sensing the barrage of questions that were sure to come.

"Garf? Since when have you been seeing these visions of Elsa?" Emilia was the first to break the fragile silence emanating across the room.

"I-it's not been that many times Princess… I reckon the first time was about two months after leaving the Sanctuary. I still remember 'er taunting me about how weak I am, wearing me down as I could do nothing about it." Garfiel's shoulders started to shake, the boy's tone shaking incessantly, fighting to fully control himself. "Ever since, I've seen that bitch in my visions every now and then. A-am I that weak over being this helpless..?"

"Poor Garf…." Mimi muttered sadly, lowering her ears. Petra too wanted to hug and comfort him.

Frederica rushed to hug her little brother, enveloping him within her warmth as his emotions threatened to lose control. "I-i'm so sorry little brother, I should've been more observant of you. I c-can't even call myself a big sister anymore…." The head maid whispered the last words quietly, not wanting to upset him further. With all her etiquette, she resisted tearing up seeing how vulnerable her brother was.

Rem and Emilia both decided to express their sympathy by silently stroking Garfiel's trembling shoulders, who was trying his best to control his emotions.

"Oh damn it, I'm sorry brother. What kind of big brother doesn't even care for his little one let alone be aware of their suffering." Otto admonished himself, invoking further thoughts of self-deprecation within himself.

"It's alright, Brotto, Sis. I can't forgive my own weakness or my own cowardice."

Wilhelm decided to chime in, having decided the prime moment was nigh.

"Nonsense young man! Although it truly can be considered a minute stroke of luck , you should not be so foolish as to consider yourself weak, seeing how you managed to get this far, Garfiel! Every warrior from ages long past has had luck on their sides to win battles, be it big or small."

"B-but you all saw how the bitch got distracted at the last second! If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have been lucky and landed that last killing blow on her." Garfield dispassionately argued, even foregoing his signature phrase 'mine's amazin' self'.

"Lucky? No, that wasn't only luck, that was the opponent's own lack of attention to her battle. That was the work of the determination of not giving up, and keeping at it with everything you had. Do you think this old man survived to this day through sheer power and strength 8? NO! While luck isn't everything, it is a factor which is indispensable in battles. So, stand strong young Garfiel. You were not 'weak', you have not earned yourself the right to." Wilhelm concluded, his tone soft and gentle, yet strong and empowering.

Ram spoke in her usual manner, attempting to cheer him up "He speaks the truth, Garf. Do not be so dumb as to beat yourself up like that. Ram is here to fulfill that duty for you." He was, after all, someone close to her whom she would like to see happy.

"We're all here for you, don't be scared to open up to us" Emilia added, placing a hand on his clenched first. "We can all discuss it, together."

Although not fully dispelling his fears, the gist of everyone's words got through to Garfiel as he wiped the half-formed tears beginning to appear. He could still hear her laughing at him, but her voice had been quietened.

"Thanks everyone, mine's amazin' self am really grateful for the words, especially old man Wil. I've gotta stop crying all the time. I shall make it up to ya one day on my name Garfiel Tinsel, the shield of Cap'n!" Garfiel declared triumphantly, his spirit once again reignited. He pointed to sky, adopting the same pose as Subaru.

Ram quipped without her usual snark present. "Hm, Barusu has infected you too Garf, or have you been like that from the start?"

"I must thank you once again, Wilhelm-sama. My debt to you just keeps piling up while I am unable to repay it." Frederica bowed, grateful once more for the old butler's help.

"Don't worry. It is the duty of the old generation to help the younger ones after all. It would be unjust of me not too." Wilhelm shook his head apprehensively, as his thoughts turned to someone else. If only the same could be said for my own grandson.

"Could he have impostor syndrome? Or maybe it's more similar to post traumatic stress disorder?" Al theorized.

"Imposter syndrome? Is it like when you imagine yourself as inadequate, not feeling as capable as other?" Tivey excitedly asked as he wanted to engage in another round of debate with the one-armed man.

"Yes something like tha-"

"Silence, Aldebaran. Minself's patience has long since run dry listening to the commoner's senseless yapping. The half-devil can't even run her own camp properly, yet how is she expected to run a kingdom? A jester such as yourself would not do so to bark any further, wasting minself's precious time further.

Al was hit over the helmet by a fan, interrupting any further questions. The Sun Princess ruthlessly growled as she felt that her time was being wasted. How dare they not learn that the world turned in her favour only.

"Barielel-sama, please keep your thoughts to yourse-e-elf only. My camp's internal matters aren't to be m-a-a-de fun of and I'm sure yours aren't to be displayed publicly to-o-o-o." Roswaal replied in his usual sing-song voice, to which she snorted contemptuously, not bothering to waste words on the clown.

Emilia sighed deeply as Priscilla's words were poisonous, yet had meaning to it. How could she have been so blind to Subaru's and everyone else's suffering? She resolved to keep a closer eye on her friend's wellbeing. She couldn't let more of her own down, not after what her knight had gone through.

Garfiel sighed deeply when a voice rang out.

"Oh, it's Garf!" Mimi popped out excitedly as she finally found him. "Where are ya headed to? Mimi's coming too!"

"So here's where the heroine Mimi appears!"

"Hmm? You're making a weird face, Garf! Did something interesting happen?"

The tsundere crossed his arms and looked the other way. "Does it look like I'm in a good mood, genius? I don't wanna talk, and I don't have a reason to."

"Keep talking about things like "loyaltie" and "dooty," and you'll end up like Joshua! Mimi thinks it's better to go with the flow." Mimi cheekily grinned like the ray of sunshine she was. "Garf looks cooler laughing like an idiot!"

Seeing the girl feel so eager for conversation made Garfiel take a breather, feeling like all the bitterness had simply drained away.

"Thanks, Mimi. I think ya really helped mine's amazin' self, you distracted me from that bitch, even for a brief moment."

"Of course, Mimi is the best! Now, Garf owes me a date on top of the Bambeem from earlier!" Mimi unanimously announced to Garfiel as she bounced onto his back.

To everyone's surprise, Garfiel didn't shake Mimi off and instead let her stay there.

"Sure, I don't mind."

Ricardo, Tivey and Anastasia glanced at each other apprehensively, but ultimately decided to let Mimi go for now. Even if Ricardo's would-be fatherly instincts said otherwise.

"The hell are ya callin' and idiot?!" he indignantly shouted, baring his teeth in the process.

The adorable cat took off running all the while giggling happily as Garfiel chased her. She stopped at a bridge overlooking the now setting sun.

"Garf! Look, look! The sunset's so pretty! It's so red!"

"Hey, calm down for a sec, would ya?!" Garfiel grumbled as he slowly walked up the bridge.

"Nah!"

"No hesitation, huh?"

Mimi hummed to herself, admiring the shimmering rays of the golden sun.

"Well, no use moping about it."

"What's up?"

"It's nothin'. Just realized I can't become the strongest outta nowhere. I'm still in the middle of climbing my way up!"

A rope ominously untangled itself from the pier.

"Right! Sounds like a really really tall climb!"
"Oh? Looks like you're gettin' it! That's right!"

Both Mimi and Garfiel thrust a fist upwards, declaring in unison that "That's the road to being the strongest!"

The head maid smiled fondly as she was delighted that her little brother had a positive influence guiding him, even if the said 'influence' had the title of Lolimancer.

"Garf! Look!" Mimi's gaze was trained on a runaway boat.

A boat was moving by itself in the Great waterway, on a collision course with five kids playing on a moored boat.

"Oh no!" Petra gasped, still full of childly innocence despite the horrors witnessed.

"There we go."

Clearing the waterway in a single leap, Garf landed in the vessel that the children were aboard . He scooped up all five children in one go, leaping once more to escape. Just a moment later, the two ships collided and promptly floundered in the waterway.

Julius gave his professional opinion as the Finest Knight. "That was impressive. He calculated accordingly and reacted instinctively to the situation with little time wasted. Quite an efficient and clever thought process, Garfiel would surely make a fine knight to the kingdom, serving honorably."

"Julius please! Think of what Captain Markos would say when he sees Garfiel!" Ferris agreed, with mock horror in his voice.

"Wow that was so kewl!" Mimi said with glee.

"Wow! So kewl!

"M-mister! Thank you very much!" the children he saved spoke words of thanks.

"Don't worry about it!" Garfiel lightly rubbed the scar on his forehead, a smug expression present on his face.

"What's your name, Mister?"

As Garfiel puffed out his chest, one of the children posed that question.

"Nothin' worth mentionin'! But if ya gotta call me somethin', then call me Tiger….. Gorgeous Tiger!"

"Gorgeous… Tiger..! Gorgeous Tiger!"

"Gorgeous Tiger is such a cool name! Mimi wishes she thought of one for herself too!"

Oh no. The horrors. Tivey had a horrified expression on his face.

"You're so cool!"

When Garfiel struck a pose reminiscent of a certain someone, the children got even more worked up, and they all imitated him as Mimi joined in, making the same mysterious pose.

"Mimi, I won't be too embarrassed by it but try not to overdo it 'kay?" Anastasia added, as she tried not to think of the fuss Hetaro would make when he found out who influenced her.

"Don't worry boss! Mimi will do it every…three instead of every one day instead!"

Scene change to Subaru yelling out in surprise as various Japanese-style dishes were served on a long table in front of him, numbering from sushi to soba noodles. The various royals candidates were all seated around. (goddammit i want some too. It's 12.30am rn as im typing this out.)

"What kind of food is that? It's my first time seeing it!" Emilia curiously asked, intrigued by the new type of food she had never seen before."

"Grrr, there goes another one of my surprises…."

Anastasia had her thunder stolen, leaving her ever so slightly dissatisfied.

"Gorgeous!"
"Can we eat these as-is?" Emilia bewilderedly questioned.

Anastasia cheerfully responded "Never seen it before, have you? You can't make these without bein' near the Great Tigrasea River."

The first one to break through the hesitance was not the hostess of the banquet, but rather-

"And this is how you eat it! Delicious! It's been ages since I've had sashimi!" Subaru exclaimed, giving a thumbs up. "You're the best, Anastasia! The very best!"

"I-it's tasty?"

"It's absolutely delicious! It's fresh too, so it's really tasty!"

A teary eyed Beatrice sniffed painfully, drawing everyone's eyes to her.

"What's wrong, Bea-ko?"
"I-is this green clump poison, I wonder?! Betty's nose is going ziiing! Ziiing!"

Laughter and chuckles rang out as everyone made fun of the poor spirit's misfortune.

A second round of laughter rang out, this time mainly by the members of the Emilia camp

"Beatrice-chan is so cuutte!" Petra exclaimed to Frederica, the latter agreeing whole-heartedly.

"Betty shall avoid that green clump of poison lest she be made fun of again! A Great Spirit deserves respect, in fact."

Emilia pinched the spirit's cheeks, playfully teasing her. "Beako! If you do that, we'll all miss out on that adorable moment!" Beatrice pouted adorably while huffing, and slapped the half-elf's hands away.

-For that one night, the moon and night seemed willing to allow a tranquil moment when all concerns could safely be postponed.

Scene changes back to Garfiel. (a slight bit of content from the LN)

After taking a liking to the children, Garfiel ended up buying them food at a nearby stall. He regaled them with stories as they strutted around the city.

"And then I said this: 'I've seen through your evil deeds, small fries."

"Wow! That's so cool!" "So kewl ! Gives goosebumps!"

As the fast-approaching night began to color Pristella's sky, Mimi and a blond boy cheered Garfiel on as he spun his tale. The latter was only six or seven, and he was one of the children whom Garfiel had saved on the waterway . This child was the last, having done his responsibility as the eldest person to escort everyone else home.

"So, is your house around here?"
"Yes!"
"Ya little kids sure came a long way."

"I wonder if Sis is mad at me. I didn't tell her I was going out."

"Got a scary sis? I know the feeling."

THough clearly worried, the young boy blinked hard when Garfiel reassuringly patted his own chest.

"Alright! Leave everythin' to me!"

"Really, Gorgeous Tiger?"

Deeply touched, the boy hugged Garf tightly.

"Fred!"

A small figure suddenly appeared. Her long blonde hair flapping around angrily, as she snapped towards her younger brother.

"S-sis…"

"What're you doing?! Just how much were you trying to make us worry?!"

"C'mon, Sis. This guy didn't mean any harm. Can't you cut him some-"

"Dear? DId you find Fred?"

A sound of a soft, gentle blonde-haired woman interrupted the young boy, who was mid sentence. He let out a soft gasp of recognition.

"Wait! Isn't that Mother?" Fredercia hurriedly asked, her jaw dropping in surprise. She turned to look at her little brother, who bore similar expressions of surprise. "How could she be alive and well? Didn't she die in the landslide on her way out of the Sanctuary?"

Garfiel could offer no retort, his mouth opening and closing uselessly while he tried to comprehend what he was seeing. How could she have survived?

"It looks like you were taking care of my children."

The screen closed in on Garfiel's painfully contorted face , who widened his eyes at the sight of her. His heart and eyes were filled with bewilderment. Memories of his mother before she left the Sanctuary played in his mind. His sharp fangs refused to line up. That voice shook him to the very core of his being, standing there was -

"It c-can't be… Mom….is alive…?"

"-Mom…?"

The screen faded to black as Garfiel's trembling voice muttered to himself.

"It'll be alright, she's alive! It's all that matters, it's all that matters.." Frederica comforted him, reiterating her last words . "We'll find her, I promise!"

"S-sis! I-i'm so glad she's alive, I-i-i." Garfiel's tried to wipe away the tears welling up, only for them to return with greater vigour. His shoulders shuddered, the poor boy on the verge of breaking down from his emotions. He curled into a ball again, looking more like a scared little boy than anything else.

"Brotto, s-she's al-"
"Don't you worry brother. I swear on my pride as a merchant that I will do everything in my power to find her, one way or another. I've let you down one too many times, this is the least I can do."

He was then hugged by Otto, resolutely offering his words of support.

I can only hope he receives adequate support from his friends in the impending days. I believe he can ride through the dark times victoriously, coming out stronger than ever. Wilhelm sympathized with Garfiel, knowing his words would have no emotional effect on him for the time being.

Everyone else stayed silent, keeping their thoughts to themselves. Ram too was at a loss of words, not quipping snarkily. Even Priscilla kept quiet, knowing it was beneath her to make fun of a little boy's suffering, even if she had her usual fiery snarl ready.

Yet another scene change back to the inn, where Beatrice could be seen sleeping, while preciously sleep talking to herself, presumably from the trauma of the green poison from supper that evening.

"Can't eat anymore… But I suppose this ziiing might not be so bad after all…"

Enjoying his partner's adorable face, Subaru headed out of the room in high spirits for a stroll until he decidedly felt sleepy.

Betty winced, knowing her contractor had trouble falling asleep due to his constant nightmares. She remembered how heart-breaking it was, watching him suffer nearly every night, not even being able to fully alleviate his pain. And that fact nearly brought her to tears.

'Betty now understands the root of your suffering, in fact. No wonder she always sees pain, fear and darkness in your eyes, I suppose. How many…how many more times will Betty fail to protect you. Am I… am I just no more than a useless doll, unable to even help you?' The spirit snuggled more into her contractor, enjoying his sleeping face, free from any worries.

"Beatrice…."

Although Emilia and Rem couldn't hear her thoughts, they could see her teary–eyed expression, more than enough to confirm their worries. They both held the spirit's hands, softly caressing her hands.

Under a black sky and silver moon, he saw a single person standing in the garden, gazing at the moon.

"Did I startle you?"
"Nah, you just had me captivated for a second. The Sword Demon in a Japanese Garden. It's such a perfect match. I have a soft spot for people who shine in the moonlight."

"You should whisper those words to a woman, not to me. What a waste."

"Right now, this kind of flowery talk doesn't work on the girl whose heart I want to tickle the most."

Wilhelm's teasing tone made Subaru shrug his shoulders in a comedic fashion.

"I'm sorry Subaru… I've been blind to a lot of things, I'll be sure to re-e-eally return your affection in the future."

Rem, still gripping Beatrice's hands, smiled inwardly knowing she herself had a foolproof plan.

"That frustration is yet another part of the joys of love."

"In the mood for some nostalgic love stories, I see"

"Care to listen?"

Subaru bowed reverentially, as he replied.

"Of course."

'Subaru-dono, you sure have your ways with words. Unfortunately, this old man's tales aren't as riveting as you may think.' Wilhelm was surprised by his onscreen counterpart, seeing how vulnerable he was able to be with Subaru, even opening up to him.

"Well then…" Wilhelm gazed with his blue eyes far in the distance as he recalled his beloved memory. "My past self was clumsy with words, far worse than I am right now. A man lacking in words."

A memory of the Sword Demon swinging his sword and his soon-to-be wife flashed across the screen.

"Y'know, old man Wil, before this, I could've never imagine ya being all tongue-tied. But it seems even you had your fair share of troubles." Ferris playfully remarked, chuckling as he did so.

"If only you knew, Ferris." Wilhelm reminisced, the nostalgia fresh in his mind. "There were many times we argued, over the most mundane of things, although we always made up in the end. After several offerings from me of course."

A small frown appeared on Reinhard's face, his lack of self-confidence rearing its ugly head once more.

"The sword was everything to me. The thoughts stirring within me before each strike and the thoughts born with every swing were what shaped my entirety. It was my wife who made me realize such a simple truth. And so, every time I held a sword, I would remember her."

"Even now?"
"Be it then or now, the sword has always linked me to my wife."

Wilhelm's triumph over The White Whale played across the screen.

"As long as I held the sword, my feelings for my wife would undoubtedly persist."

"Your missus was the previous Sword Saint, right?"

"In times of peace, she was an ordinary woman who loved flowers. The heroes who left their mark on history did not necessarily continue being heroes in their daily lives. You are no different, Natsuki-dono . Your name has spread further than you think."

"I don't think…"

"I am certain of it. For anything you cannot accomplish, you gather others who cannot accomplish the same and make it possible."

The cruel irony of it all. Roswaal mused to himself, reflecting on his past loops' actions.

"I'm just a weakling who can't do anything."

"What does it take, for Subaru-san to realize his contributions?" Crusch muttered to herself, not happy with how the boy always beat himself down. "Why can't he acknowledge himself for once?"

"And once again he puts himself down. He keeps downplaying his actions, when it is obvious he himself has contributed a significant amount. Apparently, unless you really knock it into him, only then he understands!" Otto grumbled bitterly, seeing Natuski's typical show of belittling himself.

"Natsuki Subaru, must I beat you up once more? How can someone of your character continuously undermine yourself?" Julius angrily yelled, foregoing his usual knightley etiquette in the face of such stupidity.

"Let me help ya too, Julius. Natsuki-san still has yet to learn of his own worth apparently." The merchant princess added irritably.

"You're wrong Subaru-kun! You're not weak at all! How could you even say that, after all you've done." Rem defiantly said, not believing how her hero could still be so self-deprecating after having slain an Archbishop, and Two of the Great Mabeasts on top of that.

"He still has not learnt his lesson yet, I suppose. Betty shall be clear to hammer it into him, until he finally realizes it! How long until he grasps, that he is no weakling?" Beatrice shook her contractor's arms, exasperated with him.

"I agree Betty! Subaru needs to learn to have more confidence in himself, otherwise how would he be able to endure so much hardship for us all." The half-elf's voice tearfully muttered, echoing the same beliefs.

"Yes, and it is that very weakling who can't do anything whom I like."

Having said his words with a brief pause, Wilhelm nodded with satisfaction.

Emilia gratefully said. "I hope he takes that lesson to heart, Wilhelm-sama."

"I would have chosen my words better, but I suppose that would suffice for now, Natsuki Subaru." Wilhelm nodded.

"Leave it to pal to find some fault within himself, whereas the pink maid would be more than happy to fulfill it for him." Al commented playfully, eliciting a warning slap on the helmet from Priscilla and a stare akin to murder from Ram.

"It seems I've rambled too much. I have to say, every time I speak with you, I always think… Why am I incapable of speaking to my grandson?"

"You don't get along with Reinhard? Aren't you family?"

The Sword Demon froze up at once, all expression gone from his face, as he realized his past sins were about to be revealed in front of everyone.

All expression suddenly vanished from Wilhelm's face.

"Over the course of my life, I have three regrets of which I have no excuse for." Memories of Theresia's funeral flashed, where Wilhelm called a red-haired boy a monster, really laying it into him. The young boy- Reinhard- had a shocked expression, as he walked pitifully away from the daunting look present on Wilhelm's face. "One of which is the cause of the rift between my grandson and I."

Reinhard's entire form went rigid as his breathing stopped. Even though his grandfather had apologized once before, he couldn't help but flinch in guilt as the memory haunted him again.

The knight's form only loosened, when a familiar hand was put in his shoulder from the side.

"Rein, don't," Felt pleaded, an inscrutable expression on her face. "Please…."

"I was so foolish, so unforgivably foolish. I used the Hunt for my wife's killer as an excuse to flee from my regrets. And now that I have avenged her, I understand that now is truly the time to approach him." WIlhelm lamented.

"But you're too scared…"

"As ashamed as I am."

A light wind blew through the tranquil garden, as Subaru contemplated his next choice of words carefully.

"Reinhard told me he wanted to hear more about the battle with the White Whale. I don't know what the White Whale has to do with you two not getting along, but Reinhard knows it's WIlhelm-san who spent over a decade avenging his grandma. He wants to hear more about it. I'm sure he's looking forward to it, to you bringing it up to him."

"Unbelievable–"

Listening to Subaru's advice, the unexpected revelations made Wilhelm shake his head in disbelief with a smile. Then the old man lifted his gaze, peering at the silvery moon hanging overhead.

"It seems there is no besting you, Sir Subaru."

It was clear from his voice that his doubts had been swept away.

"There is indeed no besting you, Subaru-dono." Wilhelm shook his head as he smiled warmly. "Your words sure seem to have an effect on people."

Dumbfounded, Reinhard just stood still, unsure of how to react and what to do. He knew he had to do something, anything! For his own sake, he had to overcome his own fear. Felt gently nudged him, urging him to make amends with his grandfather.

'Be more greedy!' He remembered his lady's orders, to be more like Subaru, to achieve what he wanted. For other people to experience more happiness . Like Natsuki Subaru.

"G-grandfather, could that talk happen now? I-i have plenty of things I would like to discuss with you."

Gathering his courage, he hesitantly but firmly asked his honoured grandfather.

This momentarily stunned Wilhelm, who was at a loss of words. He duly remembered how terribly the last talk had happened, which surprised him that his grandson decided to seize the initiative. He was disappointed by his own inaction, chiding himself inwardly.

"Of course." Wilhelm modestly replied, happy that another opportunity to make amends revealed itself.

"How long is this clown show going to continue? The kingdom's tool and sword's song and dance is starting to bore mineself." Priscilla's haughty voice rang out, fanning herself irritably.

How dare the Warden dare show her this farce once again?

"You should shut your mouth, O 'Barielle-sama'. A dog at leasts knows when to shut its mouth." Felt taunted.

"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight!" The next morning, Subaru who had woken up early in high spirits, was standing in the garden doing his usual morning stretches while Beatrice watched on with a bored expression. Emilia too followed him, imitating his unusual routine.

"Now, raise both your arms, and… Victory!" the duo simultaneously declared.

"You're in a really good mood this morning, Subaru!"

"I just had a chat before sleeping last night."

"Is that so? That's nice. You looked like you had something in your mind."

Subaru's cheeks were tinted a slight shade of red, barely visible to anyone.

"What, not going to say anything once again?" Ricardo taunted her, enjoying the angry look in pink oni's eyes. Mimi and Al too laughed along with the mercenary captain.

"Hmf. Ram's words are wasted on the likes of you. Ram wouldn't dare to hurt your precious feelings."

"Unlike Subaru, his morning is not so pleasant, though." Beatrice muttered, as an Otto clutched a bucket of his own vomit on the porch, clearly having had too much to drink.

"Got a hangover, Otto?"

"Y-yes… It's not every day I can go to Pristella, so I had to go drinking and make connec-" Otto gagged as a wave of nausea threatened to overcome him. Subaru gasped and raised his battle loli hurriedly from danger in case Otto's stomach contents revealed itself.

"Otto you put every merchant's name to shame!" Anastaisa playfully teased. "How weak even is your alcohol intake?"

"I can't believe that everyone is seeing like that again." Otto mutters, covering his face with his hat. "Being drunk, making a fool of myself once again."

Garfiel chuckled and slapped his brother's back, trying to cheer him up.

"By the way, I don't see Garfiel anywhere."

"He's a bit… sensitive right now. Be nice to him when he gets back, okay?"

Subaru flashed a troubled smile as Otto dry-heaved once more.

Garfiel's face darkened considerably, as he remembered how his mother was still alive.

"So Otto-kun, what's the plan for today?" Emilia inclined her head and asked the all-important question.

"I think you were planning to take Liliana as a hostage and trade her for that mana crystal?"

"For now, let's leave Natsuki-san behind… I won't accept any objectio..." replied the hangover Otto, as his Groggy Status was still in full effect.

"Yo! You're all together! And up early, too."

Felt greeted everyone as she stepped onto the porch.

"Hm? I didn't see this green guy yesterday."

"He's our domestic adviser, more or less our equivalent of Chin."

"Natsuki-san, is that how you introduce people to me?" Otto was indignant at how his future-self was treated. "What does it take for you to say aloud you respect me. What'll you do without me?"

"Well, you were the last on the lists of priorities after all." Felt snickered.

"Mineself agrees with the street rat. Thou exists only to serve as a jester, bringing amusement to everyone. Be silent and accept your fate"

Priscilla quipped with a sneer, laughing at the poor man's fate

"Come to think of it, isn't Reinhard accompanying you, Felt-chan?"

"I ain't a kid, and he's just gonna pester me all day. Besides, I hate to admit it, but if I call for him, he'll be here in a second."

Felt face stiffened, as she grumbled about her knight.

"- Did you call for me, Felt-sama?"

"I did not!"

Right on cue, Reinhard appeared immediately behind her back. Felt roared with anger at him, as he ignored her usual outbursts.

"Emilia-sama, good morning. You too, Subaru. Nice morning, isn't it?"

"You two rea-a-lly get along, don't you?"

"Yeah, you two're the very picture of getting along.

Grinning and agreeing with the smiling Emilia, Subaru smoothly ignored Felt's shouts.

"What kind of disgusting thing to say is that?! I hate it!"

Felt's high pitched voice rang out, as the camera panned to the clear blue sky.

"Aw Felt-chan, you two are really so cute together!" Emilia gushed aloud, as she enjoyed their dynamic.

"Sis! Stop teasing me! Can't you see how annoying he is?!"

"I must agree with Emilia-sama. My lady's cuteness is rarely unmatched, if not at all."

"Why yo-"

Reinhard stated enthusiastically, while blocking Felt's various kicks and punches directed at him. Felt had a faint blush on her face, her facial expression not entirely one of spite, while she pointlessly tried to land a hit,

(lokw ship them but not too much)

The scene shifted back to Emilia's camp and the Felt camp seated around the two columns of tables from earlier. Felt is visibly pouting, while the ever innocent Reinhard is smiling happily, unbothered, moisturized, staying in his own lane. Beatrice curiously peeked under the table as Emilia giggled, the antics from this morning still fresh in her mind.

"Good mornin'. Looks like you're all gettin' along rather nicely, huh?"

Anastasia, in a kimono, greeted Subaru and the others as she entered the hall, smiling mischievously as she spoke.

"Anatasia-sama, although it has not occured yet, you look as stunning as ever."

"Heh-heh, thanks Julius! I was hoping to hide another one my tricks, but Warden-sama is as invasive as ever."

"Anastasia-sama. You look more beautiful than ever this morning."

"Eh-heh-heh, it's one my secret tricks."

Anastasia showed off her clothes to her own knight, who lavished her with praises, filling her with satisfaction. Then, she cocked her head to one side.

"Oh? Mimi and Ricardo aren't with you?"
"Ricardo has yet to return. And about Mimi…. She seems to have gone out with Garfiel."

"Hetatro and Tivey rushed out of the inn when they heard Mimi didn't return last night." Subaru confirmed.

"Hetaro gets tunnel vision when Mimi is involved. But he should be fine as long as Tivey's with him. There's somethin' I'd like to ask of you instead, Joshua."

"W-what is it?"

"I want ya to deliver a letter to the main gate in Hetaro and Tivey's stead. A very, very important letter."

As she spoke those words, Anastasia glanced suggestively in Subaru's direction, Julius and Joshua both following suit. Subaru desperately begged Joshua, standing up as he did so.

"Is it related to Gluttony?! I'm begging you, Joshua! You're my only hope!"

"He's this desperate once again…..Even though he loves me, he still cares so much for her…" Emilia shrank into her chair, a whole whirlwind of emotions raging within her once again. Viscous hatred, as one specific thought ran through her mind, 'Would you do this for me too, Subaru?'

Rem winced and looked down slowly. She was still hurting heavily, having known her own self-sacrificial tendencies to have caused her hero needless suffering. She clenched her fists tightly, reminding herself how much she had yet to learn. How could love like this make her yearn yet hurt so much?

Ram comforted her sister, as she hugged her tightly knowing what thoughts were running through her head.
"Why do you need to tell me th…"

"Apologies for the delay. It seems we're the last to arrive."

Crusch arrived in the hall, followed by Ferris.

"Looks like we're all here for breakfast. Okay, bring it in!"

Clapping her hands, Anastasia called out to people waiting behind the screens, who brought plates in, placing them atop the long table. Subaru gave a gasp of recognition while Anastasia made her pronouncement with great vigour.

"Thi-this is… -"

"Today's breakfast is Kanaragi-style traditional cuisine: Daisukiyaki.!"

"O-okonomiyaki?!"

"Mimi wants to try this daisukiyaki that boss is talking about!" Mimi stood up excitedly, while Tivey tried to gently pull her down, wary of the branch once again. "It looks delicious! I can't wait to eat it!"

"Don't worry Mimi, there'll be plenty to go around. I'll be sure to reserve a lot for you."

Anastasia patted Mimi's head, who nuzzled into her hands adorably. Not so quickly satiated, she continued doing so she resumed her viewing.
