Meeting the Previous Mate

"What now," said Boris, letting out a annoyed growl. "Phoenix is no where near death's door."

He took a look at whatever was standing in front of him. "Hang on. You're not death. Who are you?"

Didn't Phoenix mention losing a mate, while fighting her inner darkness, inside her mind? replied a spirit of an alien with green skin and ruby eyes, wearing bluish purple robes, a long scar decorated his flesh, next to it was a hole in the right side of his chest, revealing a exposed heart.

"How would you know that, unless ... are you the one she lost?"

I am, I think it be a whole lot easier if the both of us learn our names, allow me to introduce myself, my name is Nute Gunray.

"Pleasure to meet you Gunray, the name's Boris. May I ask you something? Why are you here, shouldn't you be resting in eternal peace?"

I heed it no mind, I have a favor to ask you, but before I ask it. Do you mind if I sit with you for a spell, to rest these old bones, if you know what I mean?

Boris eyed the alien for a moment before speaking again. "No, I don't know what you meant by that, but your welcome to take a seat, if you like."

Thank you. said Gunray, taking up the other alien's offer. He knelt down on the ground, then proceeded to sit crossed legged.

"You seem oddly comfortable around me, I usually don't let other aliens around me, considering my past."

That piqued Gunray's interest. Do you mind sharing a little part of that past with me?

"I might, on one condition."

What would that be?

"If I tell you my past, will you share some information about yours?"

There may be some parts of it, that I may have some trouble remembering, my memory isn't what it used to be.

"That's fine, we can skip them, if you like."

Boris was hesitant for a moment, before he began his tale.

"My past started, when I first landed on Earth. My purpose here was to originally secure my species survival, by finding the owner, who held an object call the Arcnet from being deploy."

Why is that? said Gunray, before Boris had a chance to continue his story.

"You see," Boris explained, ""My species, the Boglodites, we are a predatory bunch that devour planets for their resources, if we can't reach a planet in time or one isn't provide for us, our hunger gets the better of us and consumes us."

Please, continue.

"I've done something that I can't take back, in order to secure it, I killed anyone who got in my way. During one fateful day, I ran into a MIB agent named K, who took my arm and caused the extinction of my species. Even though, I failed my mission, I swore on that day forward that I would get my revenge on the human who caused me so much misery."

Gunray looked at Boris for a moment scanning for any missing body parts. That's strange.

"What is it?" Boris asked him.

I'm not seeing any missing limbs.

"You can thank Phoenix for that, her resurrection power certainly comes in handy."

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that's how you came back.

Boris nodded his head. "My body was incinerated, if you ask me by what, I can't tell you that, even I don't know what, there was nothing left but my bones, I believe it was the only thing Phoenix had to work with, to revive me."

I see, with Phoenix's help we were able to live a second life. Even though mine was cut short, you're just beginning yours.

"What do you mean by, being cut short?"

See this hole. said Gunray, pointing to the right side of his chest.

"Yeah." said Boris.

I earned it by giving my life to Phoenix, saving her from her inner darkness, that dark doubleganger impaled me with her sword, almost making me her meal.

"Meal?"

In the world I come from, Phoenix had a taste of meat that was seasoned with essences tainted by the dark side, I don't know if Phoenix has that same taste or not after coming to your world.. Moonfox just had a taste of meat, no matter where it came from.

"She doesn't to my knowledge."

That's good to know.

"Speaking of Phoenix." said Boris, interest to learn a little bit of Gunray's history with her, maybe he'll figure out what she sees in both of them.

You're probably wondering, how I met her, right?

"I am a bit curious."

When I first met Phoenix, she was a shy creature, we were both introduce to each other, when Darth Sidious boarded our ship that hovered above Naboo. Gunray seemed distant when he mention that man's name.

"What's the matter?" asked Boris, picking up on the sudden change of mood.

That man used me and my friends as pawns to get his revenge on the Jedi.

"Is that how you got your other scar?" asked Boris, pointing to Gunray's torso.

I got that scar, when Darth Sidious sent his apprentice to dispose us, after we serve our purpose, he spare me for last, after killing off my friends. Phoenix revive me somehow, after arriving to Mustafar and heal me of my wounds and burns.

"How so?"

By giving me a sample of her blood, along with a paste made out of two different species of flowers. You see, my species, the Neimoidians live a short lifespan than humans, which is an estimate of 98 years old, I was shy of three years before my first death, with her blood I was able to live a little while longer.

Gunray let out a sigh, not wanting to get up from his spot but he had to. "I've rested long enough, it's time I take my leave."

"So soon."

"I believe so, I've overstayed my welcome."

"Gunray, wait. Was there something you need to ask me?"

"Oh yes, I almost forgot. Will you watch over Phoenix for me?"

"I'll do my best, which reminds me, what does she see in us, to imprint on us?"

"I believe I know why, Phoenix sees in you, what she once saw in me."

"Which is?"

"We both care about our species. I didn't know it at first, until my brother told me."

"I didn't know you had a brother."

"He's name was Rune Haako, he was once my advisor, during my time as viceroy of the Trade Federation. We weren't blood related, but he was a part of my species."
