Hello everyone! I am back with another update after a long time. I know I have said that I will work on this story and my other ones, but I am trying to get motivated once again, and I hope this chapter makes up for it. Glad that you all enjoy the story so far and I will try to be as accurate in terms of storyline and timeline.
With that, let us begin.
Chapter 5
Shaun was feeling sick at the moment. Not from the dragon attack, but from apparating from the train to Hogwarts. He felt like he was squeezing into a tight hole and squeezing out from the other end, he was close to throwing up. Afterwards, he was sent to the infirmary that was located inside Hogwarts to not only check if there were any injuries from the dragon attack, but to remove the dragon blood from him. While the easy part was removing the clothes that had the blood on it, the hard part was taking some that was still on him. So he was asked to lay in bed and was giving a potion to calm him down as they carefully removed the dragon blood off of him. While he wasn't physically hurt that much, he did relax for a bit as the removed the blood off of him. He was also fortunate to have his belongings brought to him so that he could change into his school uniform and would later be taken to the house he would be sorted in. After a while, it was already close to nighttime as the Aurors, which was another term for magical police from what he understands, cleaned off the last bit of dragon blood and he changed into his school uniform. The man that Shaun met, who was named Alastor Moody, told him that Dumbledore would want to speak with him in his office tomorrow after he was done with his classes. Once he was dressed up and ready, Shaun was escorted to the Great Hall by the caretaker, who was named Filch and had a cat on him named Mrs. Norris.
As they were walking, Shaun decided to break the silence as he looked at Filch and asked "So…how long have you've been working at Hogwarts."
But Filch just grumbled and said "Long enough."
Hearing Filch sounding mad, Shaun merely nodded as they eventually arrived at the doors of the Great Hall. Filch told Shaun to wait as he entered the Great Hall. He merely stood there for a good minute before the doors opened once again as Filch and an old woman, who Shaun saw was dressed as the stereotypic witch.
She looked at Shaun said "Mr. Sinclair?"
Nodding, Shaun replied "That is me."
"I have heard of you from Dumbledore and what happened at the Hogwarts Express," she said, "I do hope you are doing alright after your encounter with that dragon."
"I am alright, ma'am," Shaun said before he chuckled, "It's gonna take more than a dragon to scare me that easily."
"I pray you don't make that into a habit," the woman said, "I am Professor McGonagall. We have just finished sorting the first years and made the announcements. You arrived just in time before the feast. But before you join, you must be sorted into a House."
"Right," Shaun said, "Either Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin. I had the short explanation from some fellow classmates on the way."
"That is good to hear," McGonagall said, "Now if you follow me, please. We will have you sorted."
Shaun nodded as he followed Professor McGonagall into the Great Hall. When they entered the hall, Shaun was amazed by the hall as it was a large area with four very long tables and floating candles. In the far end, he saw Dumbledore standing there along with the other professors that Shaun will be learning from. Though, he saw one that was dress in all pink and honestly looked like a mutated toad, but he just kept that to himself. Of course, he saw all the tables were filled with students and there are flags on above head table and each of them were of different color: the far right was red, the other right was yellow, the one on the left was blue, and the last one on the far left was green. Figuring that the colors represent the houses, Shaun thought which house he would be in. While he walked, he could hear his fellow classmates all whispering and saying stuff like 'Who is this guy?' or 'I saw him fighting the dragon!' and comments like that. As Shaun looked ahead, he saw a stool in front of the teachers' table with an old hat resting on it.
McGonagall grabbed the hat, lifted it up as she looked at Shaun and said "Would you please sit?"
Understanding, Shaun took a seat on the stool while McGonagall placed the hat on his head.
"Ah, right then. A bit older than the rest of your classmates. Yes, so much potential you have."
Shaun was taken back a bit, was he hearing a voice? Surely he's not that crazy.
"No, you are not mad. However…I can see you have face many challenges in your life. Mmm, plenty of courage, resourcefulness, intelligence and very cunning. A dangerous combination. I can sense a great power in you, one that I haven't sensed in a while. I can sense you will be destined for greatness. You belong in…"
"Slytherin!" the Sorting Hat shouted.
When his house was named, he saw the students who were seating under the green banners cheering. Figuring that is where he was supposed to go, Shaun got up and headed his way to his table. While he wondered where he should sit, he saw Tracey waving her arms and pointing at an empty seat next to her. Smiling at her and playfully shaking his head in a playful way, Shaun walked over as he sat next on Tracey's right side while he saw Daphne sitting on her left and Blaise sitting in front of them.
"So you did manage to get into Slytherin!" Tracey cheered.
Blaise nodded and said "Alright, you got in. I can say it's my bad."
"Glad to be part of this house," Shaun said as he looked over at Daphne.
She saw this, merely rolled her eyes and said "Yes, well, after this, we need to have a little talk about what happened."
Knowing what she meant, Shaun merely nodded at her. As Shaun got comfortable, that is when he saw Dumbledore getting up and said "Before the feast begins, I would like to take this moment to discuss the events that transpire on your way to Hogwarts. While it was a dreadful event, I am grateful that you are all alright. However, I would like to mention the actions of one student in particular."
He then motioned at the Slytherin table, mostly towards Shaun, and said "The actions of Mr. Shaun Sinclair had display courage to ensure the safety of his new classmates from the dragon, despite starting Hogwarts as a fifth year. While actions like his should not be followed, it is important to acknowledge courage like his. That is why I will award Mr. Sinclair and his new house…50 points."
When he said that, everyone in Slytherin started to cheer as Shaun's fellow classmates patted his back and was congratulating him. While Shaun was a bit happy by his classmates, he leaned in towards Tracey and whispered "Is this a good thing I presume?"
"Yes!" Tracey whispered back, "That many points on the very first day! We already have a head start thanks to you!"
Surprised at this, Shaun looked back at Dumbledore and saw the headmaster smiling at him while giving him a quick wink. Shaun caught on and thought "I see. He used my encounter with the dragon to award me those points so that I can be in good terms with my classmates. Clever old man."
"With that said," Dumbledore said, "Let the feast begin."
And just like that, countless food appeared in front of Shaun as he was amazed by it. There was turkey, smash potato, corn on a cob, the list goes on. Seeing his classmates digging in, Shaun started to grab some food, put it on his plate and started to dig in. He also saw his cup was full of a liquid and when he drank it, it tasted sweet and delicious.
As he ate, he heard a fellow Slytherin housemate ask "So new guy, is it true that you fought a dragon and lived?!"
"Of course he lived," another housemate said, "Can't you see he is sitting right here?!"
"How did you do it?" another asked.
Seeing everyone practically staring at him, Shaun thought about it as he looked at everyone, but before he could explain, Daphne then said "How about you all leave him alone for the time being? He just arrived and survived a dragon attack in one day. Give him room to breath before you demand answers from him."
With that, everyone just stopped asking question. As Shaun looked at her and mouthed 'Thank you', Daphne merely huffed as she continued to eat her food. Tracey patted his back and said "Don't worry about her. She's a big softy."
Daphne merely huffed again as Blaise then said "But in all seriousness, it's a big deal to face off against a dragon and kill it. Surprised you weren't arrested for that."
"Arrested for killing a dragon in self-defense?" Shaun asked, "I didn't seek out the dragon, the dragon came to me with intentions to kill me."
"Of course he wouldn't be arrested for that," Daphne said, "Like he said, it was self-defense. Though, him killing the dragon would entitle him to own the corpse."
"Oh really?" Shaun said, "Why is that?"
Blaise replied "Well, there are a lot of uses that can be used from a dragon. Though the majority is used for potion making. But if you get to keep the leather, you can have a neat clothing commissioned."
"Clothes made out of dragon leather? Sounds awesome," Shaun said, "But…I don't know how to, you know, get the dragon seeing it's so far away."
Daphne then explained "I would assume that the Ministry heard of this and would have sent specialists to collect the dragon and have it be transferred to your Gringotts vault…you do have a vault, right?"
"I do!" Shaun said.
"Good, don't want the Ministry to take it all for themselves," Daphne said, "After that, they goblins will estimate the corpse and the Ministry will obtain at least 20% of it while you keep the rest."
"Just hope they don't get too greedy, am I right?" Shaun joked.
"Considering it's the Ministry, I wouldn't be surprised," Daphne said.
After spending dinner with his housemates and eating their meal, Dumbledore had dismissed the students as he told the Prefects them to their assigned house. As Shaun and everyone in Slytherin got up, Shaun looked a head and saw a young man with blonde hair, blue eyes and white skin and a young woman with short brown hair, brown eyes and light brown skin.
"Alright," the blonde said, "I am Draco Malfoy, your Prefect. Show me respect and you won't get in trouble. Now keep up or get lost."
With that, everyone followed him and the girl next to him. A bit upset with how Draco talked, Shaun leaned towards Blaise and asked "What's his deal?"
Blaise replied "Don't worry about him. He…believes he is above everyone because of his dad."
Nodding, all the Slytherins followed Draco and the girl, who Shaun learned was named Pansy Parkinson, as they were led down towards the dungeons and were stopped at, what looked like a dead end. Before any of the students were about to say anything, Draco walked up to the wall and said "Pureblood."
The moment he said that, Shaun heard a hissing sound as a snake statue slithered it's body upward as a door was now revealed to them! As everyone walked through, only Shaun stayed behind and examined the door as he touched the wall and then the door and was wondering how it do that before Draco saw him and said "Hey! Fifth year!"
Alerted, Shaun rushed up to him and said "Sorry about that. Just new to all of this."
Draco narrowed his eyes at him and asked "You're not from a wizard family?"
Shaun replied "No, I was raised by my family who are Muggles as you guys would call them. My father is a Muggle, but I don't know if my mom was a witch or not."
"You never bother asking her?" Draco asked.
Shaun sighed in sadness and said "Can't really ask the dead. She died when I was born, so I don't know whether I am a Muggleborn or a half-blood. Besides, I am not from around here. My family moved here from America and it was only recently that I discovered that I could use magic. I don't know things work around here, so I would need some help in that department."
Draco observed him a bit as he huffed and said "It would make sense if you were sorted into another House if you were a Muggleborn. Slytherin only accepts those from Pureblood families. Half-bloods would also be sorted to Slytherin depending on who their families are."
"And since America doesn't really keep track on any wizarding families, for all I know, my mother could be a witch hidden in sight," Shaun said.
"And why would your mother hide being a witch?" Draco asked almost being offended.
"You ever heard of the Salem Witch Trials?" Shaun asked.
Hearing about it, Draco nodded and said "Make sense, but that was centuries ago."
"And so was slavery, but there are still racial problems back home," Shaun added knowing the history of America from his dad, "I guess my mom was afraid of the fact that, if she showed her magic, she would be found out and accused of being a follower of Satan. Trust me, things like that still exist."
Draco huffed and said "This is why I hate Muggles."
He then looked at Shaun and said "I suppose I can excuse your upbringing for now since you got us house points."
"I think Dumbledore was going to award me those points regardless of what house I would join," Shaun said.
"Then be grateful that you joined Slytherin," Draco said, "Of course, 50 points isn't so bad considering you cleaned up Potter's mess."
When Draco said that, Shaun was confused and asked "Potter? Like Harry Potter? Why would this be his mess?"
Draco smirked and replied "That dragon attacked the cart where he was. And when Potter tried to run away from it, it followed him and continued to attack the train. First the Dementors and now a dragon? He should have never return to Hogwarts."
While Shaun did not know what a Dementor was, he was certain that the dragon was after him. Afterall, the way it looked at him and tried to bite him, Shaun knew that he was it's target. But for Draco to say that this Harry was it's target instead of him? While a part of him wants to correct Draco, another part of him believes it would be safer if he, and everyone who hears about it, doesn't tell anyone and have them believe that Harry was the dragon's target. The attack happening while Daphne was showing them a container containing a strange wand? It couldn't be a coincidence.
Shaun merely shrugged and said "Hey, his mess is our gain. Right?"
Draco shrugged and said "I suppose. Now, your stuff was brought to one of the dorm rooms. The boys' dormitory is on the right and you will be sharing the dorm with Blaise Zabini and Theodore Nott. I want you up at 7 in the morning. You're in Slytherin now. You may have gotten us points but don't let it go into your head, you still have a whole year to catch up."
"Got it, boss," Shaun said, "I want to ask more, but we can save the questions for the morning. Talk to you soon."
With that, Draco and Shaun made their way into the common room. When Shaun walked further into the common room, while the place was a bit dark, it had a relaxing atmosphere to it. There was a warm fireplace in the far end and, to Shaun's amazement, there were large glass windows in the far end where it was showing water on the other end! Was this part of the magic or where they somewhere underwater? Questions for tomorrow. Right now, he was tired and he headed to his room. Heading to the boy's side, Shaun walked until he saw his name on a plaque along with two other names: Blaise Zabini and Theodore Nott. As he walked in, he saw Blaise along with another boy who had short brown hair, blue eyes and light skin. Shaun figures that this other boy was Theodore Nott.
Blaise saw him and said "Hey man! Glad to see that we have another roommate!"
He motioned at the other boy and said "This is Theodore Nott."
Shaun nodded at him and said "Nice to meet you."
Theodore merely looked at him, nodded and just changed into his sleeping wear and went to bed. Shaun looked at Blaise as he said "Don't mind him. He's just, uh, stress. Don't worry about it."
Nodding, Shaun walked up to his bed where he saw all his belongings and begins to change. He was surprised to see the color his clothes and robes changed into the colors of Slytherin as the inside of his robes were green and there was the Slytherin house symbol on his robes and vests, even the color of his tie chanted to green and silver. Happy to be sorted into a house where he already knew a few people, Shaun stretched his body as he too begins to change into his sleepwear, got into bed and soon fell asleep, eager for tomorrow.
The next morning, Shaun got up and headed to the restroom where they had separate showers and toilets on the boy's side. After showering and putting on his clothes, he followed his fellow classmates to the Great Hall where they will have breakfast and receive their class schedule. While having his breakfast that consisted of ham, bacon, egg and toast, he looked up and saw a man wearing black robes, long black hair, pale skin and a large nose handing the Slytherin students their schedules. When Shaun asked Tracey who the man was, she replied that he was Professor Snape and that he was their Head of House and he teaches potions.
Nodding, as Snape handed Shaun his schedule, he looked up at his professor and asked "Excuse me professor, I was told to meet with Professor Dumbledore after my classes, but I don't know where his office is, may I know where it is?"
Snape merely looked at him and replied "Perhaps you should ask you fellow classmates to take you there considering that your Magic Creatures class is postponed until further notice. As for going into his office, the password is Lemon Drop. Don't forget it."
With that, Snape walked away. Confused on what he said, Shaun looked at his schedule and he did see that his Care for Magical Beast was in fact canceled until further notice. He did remember that Hagrid was their professor for Magical Beasts, but the last time Shaun saw him was yesterday when he went to Platform 9 3/4. And come to think of it, Hagrid wasn't there at the feast last night. So…where did he go?
He leaned over at Tracey and asked "Hey Tracey, what happened to Professor Hagrid?"
Tracey looked at him and asked "How did you know him?"
Shaun replied "Well, he helped me get my supplies last month and was there with me yesterday when I board the train. Any ideas where he's gone to?"
Tracey shrugged and replied "No idea. But on the plus side, that means we have more free time."
Shaun nodded as he said "So…you guess know where Dumbledore's office is?"
Before Tracey was going to say anything, Daphne looked over at them and said "I can take you there, but in return, we must talk. You know what I am talking about."
As Shaun nodded, Daphne looked over at Tracey and Blaise and said "We'll meet up at 'the room' after our Charms class."
Both Tracey and Blaise nodded as they all headed to class. The classes were a bit difficult for Shaun, but he easily caught on. Transfiguration was hard to practice since he is new, but with practice, Shaun will improve. Herbology was interesting since it involved with magical plants and some were used in potion making. Muggle studies was…interesting. While Shaun was from the future and lived in the Muggle world, he was curious on what the current events were. However…what he was learning from Muggle Studies was nothing that he expected as it was mostly learning about Muggle objects that Shaun already knows about. Charms was fairly easy since Shaun already knows how a few spells and picked it up easily. After class ended, since Magical Creature class was canceled, they have more free time for the rest of the day. But instead of heading out, Daphne led him to Dumbledore's office.
Along the way, Shaun leaned in close to her and asked "So…what did you find out about the wand you had?"
Daphne coughed and said "Let's not talk about that in the open. We'll talk more about that later."
Nodding, they both eventually arrived in front of a griffin statue. Knowing the password that Snape told him, Shaun said "Lemon Drops."
The statue then started to spin and traveled upward as stairs appeared. Looking at Daphne, she said "I will wait for you."
"Alright, it won't be long," Shaun said as he traveled up the stairs.
After a short walk, he entered the office and was surprised by it as there were portraits everywhere. He had learned the hard way that the portraits in Hogwarts do indeed move and talk back, to which scared Shaun a bit admittedly. His fellow classmates laughed at his reaction, but they understood his situation and Shaun himself laughing as well. Looking ahead, he saw Dumbledore sitting behind his desk and next to him was a large red bird on a perch near his desk.
Seeing Shaun enter his office, Dumbledore said "Ah, Mr. Sinclair, welcome. How was your first day?"
"It was an interesting experience, but I quickly caught on," Shaun said, "Once again, thank you for giving me the opportunity to attend here."
"Of course, my boy," Dumbledore said, "Now, Alastor had informed me of your encounter with the dragon. Are you alright?"
"I am professor," Shaun said, "I was lucky to draw the dragon away from everyone else. Didn't want anyone else to get hurt."
"You showed true bravery, Mr. Sinclair," Dumbledore said, "You would have made a fine Gryffindor, but still happy to see you are safe and sound."
"Thanks professor," Shaun said, "And thanks for the house points. Though you were going to give me those points regardless of what house I joined, right?"
Dumbledore merely replied "Perhaps."
As Shaun chuckled, he then gave him a serious look and asked "Professor…why did that dragon attack? I heard that it was the first time something like this happened."
Dumbledore sighed and said "You are correct that this was indeed the first time a dragon attacked the Hogwarts Express. I have been sending letters to the parents to inform them of the attack and assuring them that their children are safe. The Aurors are still examining the dragon as we speak."
Shaun nodded as he then said "I…also heard from my fellow classmates that I claim the dragon remains. So…"
Dumbledore chuckled and said "Do no worry about that, Mr. Sinclair. When everything is settled, you will receive a letter from Gringotts that will explain everything."
"Thank you, professor," Shaun said, "By the way, do you know where Professor Hagrid is? He isn't here, and last I saw him, he was at King's Crossing."
Dumbledore nodded and replied "Ah, I am afraid that Hagrid is away on an important trip at the moment. But rest assure he will return as soon as he is finished."
Shaun nodded as he now knows what happened to Hagrid. While he did know that the dragon was after him, he didn't want to be the first suspect to know about it since he and his classmates were talking about the mysterious wand. He figured that he needs to throw off the suspicion of him and remembered what Draco told him.
"Professor," Shaun said, "I…heard from one of my classmates that the dragon was after someone named Harry Potter."
That got the Dumbledore's attention and asked "Who did you hear that from?"
"My Prefect, sir," Shaun said, "He told me that he was targeted by the dragon and was attacked by Dementors earlier…whatever those things are. I know it sounds crazy, but…I figure you would know about it?"
As Shaun stood there unsure what the professor would say, to his relief, Dumbledore nodded and said "I am not sure how Mr. Malfoy knew about the Dementors, but thank you for informing me of this. I will speak to Mr. Potter about this. Which begs the question, how did you kill the dragon?"
Shaun blushed a bit and replied "Well, being from the future and having muggle weapons from that time at hand was useful when fighting a dragon."
"I suppose so," Dumbledore said, "But be warned, there are laws that forbid the misuse of muggle artifacts."
Shaun smirked and said "It's not misusing it if you already know how to use it."
Dumbledore merely laughed and said "You got me there. But if you ever need anything, Mr. Sinclair, my office is open to you."
"Thank you, professor," Shaun said as he left the office.
While he is thankful that he threw off any suspicion off of him for the time being, he still has another problem at hand: Daphne. While she was a bit easier to deal with since she knows what events transpired before the dragon attack, it didn't make him feel any better. At least she was his housemate, so she might take it easy on him? But he won't lie, he was curious about the wand that was contained in it. A container that was hard to open and only Shaun was the only one to successfully open it. But how did he do that? And why was he the only one the see the glow and not anyone else? He hopes that he gets his answer soon.
And this Shaun is now in Slytherin. Now, I won't lie, the second choice for what House Shaun would join was going to be Ravenclaw, since in the game, it is shown that Shaun is smart in his own way. But again, me being bias, he was put in Slytherin. And as for Draco being nice to Shaun despite his background, well, as far as I am aware, he hasn't shown any bad negativity towards his housemates as much as the other houses. While Draco is weary of Shaun due to his upbringing, he lets it slide since he got Slytherin some house points.
And what will Daphne and the others talk to Shaun about? Find out next time. Until then, stay safe and review!
