CHAPTER 1: WE MET FOUR YEARS AGO TODAY…
APRIL 6th…
THE BEACH…
Marty and Kensi were walking along the beach near the water, with Matty between them holding their hands.
Monty ran just a little ahead of them and then came back barking joyfully.
"Hey, Kens, it was four years ago today…" Marty said, and she looked at him. " What was four years ago today?" Kensi asked, pretending not to know what he was talking about.
"Oh, come on. You're not going to tell me that you've forgotten what happened four years ago today?" Marty asked as they continued to walk along the beach with Matty.
"Hmmmm, I think it was just another workday." Kensi teased and then saw the hurt look on Marty's face. "So that day was nothing special to you?" Marty questioned.
"Of course, it was...four years ago is when we met. Do you really think I could forget?" Kensi asked him with a smile, and Marty smiled back, letting out a chuckle.
"That's a day I'll never forget, Fern. Who knew that we would one day get married and have a son?" Marty replied as he looked down at Matty between them and then back at Kensi.
"I think Matty is getting a little tired," Kensi said as she reached down to pick up the sleepy boy.
"So, I guess we have to go home now?" Marty asked, his smile fading a little. "Yup, come on, Huckleberry. Let's go home, we can come back another time." Kensi told him. "Really, you promise. Marty asked, sounding like a kid, and Kensi rolled her eyes.
"I don't think anything could stop you from coming to the beach...even death." Kensi joked as they walked to the car, and he put his arm around her waist.
"Hey, I have an idea what we can do while Matty is down for a nap…" Marty said and wiggled his eyebrows when Kensi looked at him.
"Yeah, we can sleep." Kensi quipped, trying to hold back a smile.
Once they reached the car, Kensi strapped a sleeping Matty into his car seat.
IN THE CAR…
"Hey, Kens, I know what you said about killing me if I got you pregnant again, but…" Marty began as Kensi pulled out of the parking lot. "You want more kids?" Kensi said and glanced at him. "Have you ever thought about having more than just Matty?" Marty asked, and for a moment, Kensi drove in silence.
"Tell anyone I told you this and you will die, got it?" Kensi asked, and now Marty's face turned to a look of curiosity. "You wouldn't kill me, Princess...because you wouldn't want our son to grow up without his dad," Marty said confidently.
"Before you asked me out on that first date…" Kensi kept her eyes on the road, this time, but couldn't seem to say what she was thinking. "What, Fern?" Marty asked, trying to hide his smile.
"I used to dream about you at night...even more after the OP as Justin and Melissa. I used to dream of what it would be like if we were really married and if we had kids together, what they would look like. We know what our son looks like, but...I used to dream about a little girl, too." Kensi said as she pulled to a stop at a red light.
"Seriously...I can't believe that Kensi Marie Blye-Deeks has gone soft on me." Marty joked, and Kensi glared at him before hitting him in the shoulder. "So, yeah, I have thought about it. Maybe when Matty is a little older." Kensi commented, glancing in the rear-view mirror at Matty.
"Okay," Marty said with a smile as he smiled at her and then looked in the back seat at Matty and Monty.
The rest of the ride home was filled with Marty talking and Kensi wondering why she had admitted what she had to him.
"The day we met on our first case just happened to fall on a Sunday. A day…" Marty began, but Kensi slapped a hand over his mouth. "Don't say it, or we will probably get called in," Kensi said, cutting off what Marty was going to say.
'A day we don't have to work.'
KENSI & MARTY'S HOUSE…
Marty carried a sleeping Matty, and Kensi unlocked the door.
Then Kensi and Marty made their way down the hall, with Monty just ahead of them to put Matty in his crib for a nap.
MATTY'S ROOM…
Marty laid Matty in the crib, as Monty lay down right beside the crib.
Ever since they had brought Matty home…
And after a minute of just watching Matty sleep...Marty and Kensi left the room making their way back down the hall, then Kensi walked to the kitchen.
THE KITCHEN…
"You're not going to try to cook, are you, Kens? If you are, I think we'd better alert the fire department." Marty joked, and she glared at him before beginning to pull some ingredients out.
"I'm going to make some pistachio delight. My mom showed me how a couple of weeks ago." Kensi told him. "That's why you put extra food in the cart?" Marty asked as Kensi made the pistachio delight.
"Yup," Kensi responded. "I don't know...are you sure it's edible? Because you're not exactly known for your skills in the kitchen." Marty said skeptically.
"Okay, that's enough jokes about how bad you think I am in the kitchen. I've gotten better since we got married, and you don't have to have any pistachio delight...there will just be more for me." Kensi told him, a little irritated at his continuous jokes about her in the kitchen.
"I'm sorry, Princess. I just thought you bought the whipped topping for...other reasons." Marty replied, coming to stand behind her with his chin on her shoulder and his arms going around her waist.
