Record of Ragnarok Rising Sun

1000 years after the events of the first Ragnarok Showdown between the gods and mankind, humanity has progressed into a new age of peace and prosperity. However, a new threat has emerged and in turn a second Ragnarok has begun. And without sufficient Valkyries to serve as humanities combatant's Volunds, it most certainly seems like curtains for mankind. Or is it?

Chapter 1

Solar Intervention

Council of Valhalla, Parliament Building

The Parliament Building was abuzz with the god's chatter and whispers, unsurprising, since this was their first meeting after their defeat at the hands of humanity 1000 years ago in the first Ragnarok showdown. Some of them gossiped in excitement, while more relished in the opportunity to punish humanity for the humiliation they had subjugated on the gods.

However, they were all silenced by the heavy strike of a gavel, made by a decrepit, frail looking elderly god in a toga. His head is almost bald, save for a spike of hair in the center and his long white beard. His sunken, almost pupilless eyes sweeping across the room of now silent deities. Zeus, Chairman of the Council of Valhalla, Chief God of the Greek Pantheon was ready to begin the conference.

"Well, it's nice to see everyone here so lively and ready to begin. It feels like only yesterday that we were all gathered here, ready to annihilate mankind. Only to be beaten by them through Ragnarok, is it not? So… have humans put these past 1000 years to good use? Or do they still warrant our divine retribution? Show me the will of the gods."

This single comment caused ripples of anger to pass through a number of the gathered gods, how dare the humans rebel against their creators? How dare they obtain victory over the gods, a chance they only had because of some stupid clause enacted as a mere joke? It was an outrage, a travesty. It was clear to them that humanity had only bought little time through their past victory, this time the gods would destroy mankind for all their transgressions… But then.

"If I may father. In the past millennia, we have witnessed humanity go through exceptional improvements. Most nations is at peace, the natural environment has been gradually healing , and their technology, history and culture has flourished greatly. They are deserving of another 1000 years."

All the gods' heads turned to see who had made this statement, they were greeted by Ares, Greek God of war, dressed in his usual attire consisting of a red cape, black loincloth and his signature helmet atop his head.

"As much as I hate to admit it. Ares is right, those guys aren't the same stinkers we had a millennia ago. They've improved enough to avoid being wiped out by us this time, I vote against their destruction as well." This time the Chief god of the Hindu Pantheon and one of the thirteen godly combatants in the first Ragnarok, Shiva was the one talking.

Upon hearing the two gods' reasoning, others began voicing their agreement, those who had been silent or unwilling to voice out their support for mankind's survival slowly began to do so. Soon the Parliament Building was now full of support and grudging respect for humanity.

Zeus chuckled lightly at this sudden change of attitude, "Well since you all have voiced out your opinions, let's not waste any more time and get to the voting, shall we?"

A surge of hands lifted, casting their vote. Humanity had achieved their continued existence for the next millennia with more than half in their favor. A small groan came from the opposing gods but there was nothing they could do now.

Whilst all this was occurring, above at the topmost stand of the building, a lone figure watched the gods conference and its conclusion with relief and pride.

Göll, the thirteenth and youngest of the surviving Valkyries, and sister of Brunhilde, the person who had originally challenged the gods with the clause of Ragnarok to eventually secure their victory and survival. It seemed her efforts had not gone to waste, humanity was safe once more from the wrath of the gods.

"Big sis, if only you could see the fruits of your labor now…"

Her train of thoughts were interrupted by another strike of Zeus's gavel, "Hm what a shame, I was hoping for the possibility of another Ragnarok. But since the council's vote is final, I suppose this meeting will be adjour-"

"BANG!" The chairman was interrupted by the doors to the meeting room bursting open with great force and impact. And a lone figure strode into the room tailed by others on either side

On the left was a muscular man, his skin blue in color, with black face paint covering his eyes, he wore a feathered headdress, jaguar skinned cape, a white loincloth and woven sandals on his feet. This was Huitzilopochtli, Chief God of the Aztec Pantheon and its God of the Sun.

On the right stood a beautiful woman with pale skin and long white hair touched with gold. Her golden eyes were sharp and striking. She wore a red kimono with gold accents, tied with elegant ropes that formed shoulder straps and a belt at her waist, complete with a knot and a small bell. A glowing diamond headdress rested on her head, shining like the sun. She was Amaterasu, the Chief God of the Shinto Pantheon and the Goddess of the Sun.

The figure these two were trailing behind was a tall, copper skinned man who oozed authority and power. He wore a Pharaoh's headdress known as a neme. And blazing gold armor covered by sand brown robes underneath a usekh on his shoulders. His eyes burned a solid fiery orange, as he gazed upon the gathered gods in front of him.

Immediately the assembled deities bowed in his presence. For this man was another Chief God and Solar Deity, as well as so much more. He was Ra of the Egyptian pantheon, one of the oldest gods in all of heaven, and a former Chairman of the Council of Valhalla.

With a lazy wave, Ra dismissed the groveling gods, before slowly making his way towards the center of the room where Zeus was seated.

"Oh ho?" The Godfather of the Cosmos chuckled as the three Sun Gods reached his seat. "Finally showing your face again after so long, Ra? How was retirement if I may ask? Never thought about settling down myself!"

Ra wore a look of disdain, "Zeus… I'd forgotten how lackadaisy you can be. You lost to the insignificant humans in Ragnarok, disrespected and humiliated by these rebelling insects… And yet you choose to let them LIVE? You have dishonored the authority of the Heavens for the last time and it's clear there needs to be a change in leadership."

Zeus merely laughed, "Oh? Is this a rebellion then, Ra? From the one who once defended the decisions of the council with such staunchness?"

Amaterasu let out a scoff, speaking in a condescending voice. "What if we are? It is evident you are unable to control yourself, much less the council with that battlelust of yours, Zeus. Two of your brothers are slain and yet you let their killers get away and be hailed as heroes."

"Bit of a low blow there Amy." Huitzilopochtli said, his voice surprisingly more relaxed for a God of War. "Not cool."

Amaterasu huffed, "Shut up Huitzy, I told you to let us handle the talking!"

"Ah Amaterasu and Huitzilopochtli," Zeus said, turning to them, "Fitting theme of Three Suns and all. What possessed you both to join Ra in his little effort?"

"Simple." Ra replied, "They know that no matter how much humanity claims to have improved, they will always revert back to their old ways. They will be violent, ignorant and disrespectful to their world and the gods. They will wage wars with one another, they will engage in sins and vices, they will abuse and take the rewards reaped for them by past generations for granted. They will NEVER truly change. The one and only solution is to eradicate them once and for all."

"Such an impassioned belief from our former chairman!" Zeus laughed, "But you're a little late Ra. Perhaps repeat all you've just said at the next council meeting, eh? Unless… you wish to settle control over the council in the good old fashioned way?"

The Godfather of the Cosmos' body began to grow as his muscles expanded in a morbid display. His creepy grin widening as he cracked his fist.

Ra lips formed a small smirk. "Actually that was EXACTLY what I was thinking."

All of a sudden a column of fire erupted around the Chairman's booth, separating Ra and Zeus from the rest of the room. Ra surged forward like a snake as Zeus eagerly swung his fist, ready to meet him. There were loud battlecries and heavy blows as the two Chief Gods seemed to be locked in a vicious and terrible close combat. Their shadows cast against the raging flames and dancing across the walls as their bout continued, until…

"Alright, alright! Ha… you… win."

The sea of flames died down, and Ra stood victorious above Zeus. The Godfather of the Cosmos had heavy burns across his body, his fist charred and his eyes dazed.

"Hoo… Not bad, Ra!" Zeus grinned as his muscular body shrunk back down. "Seems like someone has been training in retirement! Alright… do as you please, but once I'm back in shape, I demand a PROPER rematch."

Ra scoffed, the Sun God seemed to not have taken any damage in the scuffle, but he seemed drained from the battle as well. "Foolish dolt. You'll simply end up where you are again. Now leave, you are longer needed here."

Suddenly, Ra grabbed Zeus by the head, roughly throwing him slamming him against the wall and letting him crumple to the ground.

The gods gasped in shock, surely Zeus wouldn't be beaten so easily!

"HO HO!" Zeus laughed deliriously as he laid on the ground. "Really been working out, eh? Maybe I should give retirement a shot! Ack!"

As Zeus tried and failed to get up. The other gods realized with a start that somehow… Ra had managed to break Zeus' spine and rendered him immobile! Quickly, Ares raced over to his father's side, gently carrying him in his arms and hurriedly leaving the council room.

Ra turned to the crowd of gods, rubbing his forehead as if exhausted as they awaited his next words in fear and awe. Even Amaterasu and Huitzilopochtli seemed shocked by their bosses' sudden burst of violence.

"Now then, since Zeus is currently unfit to lead. I'm stepping in and taking back control as chairman. Any objections before we continue?"

Wisely the other gods quickly shook their heads, though he sounded calm and eloquent, there was a certain danger in the undertones of the Sun God's voice.

"Very good to see that we are in agreement. Now my first act as the chairman of the council would be to carry out the eradication of every single human in existence. However..." Ra paused, Göll and the other gods waited for his next words with bated breath.

"I believe that action speaks much louder than frivolous claims that humanity has improved. So I shall give humanity one last chance to prove itself."

Ra spread his arms, his grin wide hit void of any warmth. "A second Ragnarok, on the exact same terms as before. thirteen rounds with the first to seven wins emerging victorious. Should humanity win, they get to live another 1000 years. But when they inevitably lose, they and all who have collaborated alongside them… DIE." Ra looked up at Göll who had a look of horror plastered on her face.

"I wish you all the best, little Valkyrie."

Thank you for reading the first chapter of my work, this is my very first fanfic so I very much welcome constructive criticism and new ideas from anyone willing to offer them. I would also like to state that my fanfic does take inspiration from other, arguably better Record of Ragnarok fanfics from more experienced writers, these include "Ragnarok Pandora" by Craftex101, "Record of Rangnarok: Revelations" by JustCool2k, and "Record of Ragnarok: The Final Age" by GhuhNamn433.
