Chapter four! This is a simple continuation of the previous chapter with the focus being on the Daycare Attendant and Mike's own thoughts about the animatronic.
I stepped out of the elevator leading down to the Atrium from the arcade and the gigantic DJ Music Man. I almost had a mini panic attack seeing that thing. Its other iteration, the one likely nothing more then burnt scrap beneath his feet, wasn't exactly deadly. It was just one of the most annoying attractions he had to deal with in that pizzeria.
Why Henry thought that thing's place in the pizzeria was important I'll never know.
Anyway, it was going onto 4 now and the next stop of the night was the Superstar Daycare. From what I knew it was meant for the very young children who were supposed to be dropped off and left in the hands of the Daycare Attendant for their time at the Pizzaplex. It was also notable for its reputation for the kids being scared of the dark afterward.
That was in no way reasuring and I had a feeling I may be getting a front row seat to the thing that terrified those kids. Well, no time like the present. I stepped out into the lobby and turned toward the Daycare Center.
As I passed by a water fountain I got a look at an illistration of the animatronic: Sun & Moon. Apparently Fazbear had installed two personality chips into a single agile animatronic who would take care of the toddlers left in the daycare. I didn't know a whole lot about the animatronic but I could guess one was probably interested in fun while the other wanted sleep.
Finally I got out of the hall and stepped into the Superstar Daycare. Or a balconey leading into it at least. I looked around at the room, giant in size and I could even see what looked like a large sun hanging near a castle tower. I couldn't see much more over the small wall and went over to investigate.
Looking over the wall I could see a large play place and a ball pit off to the side styled like a small sea. The flooring were a bunch of saftey matts meant to keep a kid from scraping themselves if they fell over. Overall it looked exactly like something a young kid would love being.
I looked to my right to see an easy entrance to the proper daycare. A small orange slide leading down into the ball pit. It was tempting but there was no way I was going to fit in that thing. I stood well over 6ft tall which was both a blessing and a curse. That blessing being I was just big enough to cause anyone I meet to think twice about causing a scene. That curse was not being able to fit in places I may want to be.
"Stupid freaking height genes." I grumbled to myself as I took the long way around. I could blame William for a lot of things and most of them were genuine grievences I had with the man. The height thing was admittedly the only petty one I hadn't let go of. Then again the more problems I had with the guy the more I'd care less If I had to deal with him again.
Thankfully, I had a lot of problems with my father.
I came out of my thoughts as I finally reached the large gate leading into the play area. Two large knockers were bolted on front and so I reached out for one and used it to knock a few times. That likely got the attendants attention so I simply stood and waited.
A strange noise filled the air a few moments later. I tilted my head as I listened to it. It sounded like an unspooling wire. I looked around to see what was making that sound but turned my head back to the door when I heard it being wrenched open.
"Hello!" The Daycare Attendent exclaimed with the Sun personality. "Welcome to the Superstar Daycare!" I stared at the nightmarish monstrosity in front of me. A sun face with artistic spike poking out of its head and smile. White eyes stared back and soon it began looking nervous, "Uhh, that wasn't too much was it?"
I blinked as it seemed to slouch and put its hand on the back of its neck, "I'm programmed to be upbeat at all times but have had adults mention how annoying it can be when I take their kids under my care." Sun admitted.
"Its…fine." I decided to say. It wasn't the worst thing in the world and it must've been alright with children. "It just caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting it."
"Oh, okay." Sun seemed to look closer at me which made me slightly uncomfortable. "You must be the new night guard. Mike Anthony Schmidt, right?"
"Yeah, but just refer to me as Mr. Schmidt." I didn't want to make a comment about feeling old. I was old. "Anyway, I'm guessing everything is fine in the daycare?"
"Oh, yes sir!" Sun saluted as he spoke. "I am always on the watch for any intruders or rule breakers! Rule breakers are banned from the daycare and sent to time out while intruders are…typically subdued by Moon."
"Moon, right. Do you mind if I speak with Moon?" I asked.
"Uhhhh, I don't know. He and I don't see eye to eye on certain things. Plus he's the security program for the daycare and the one who presides over….n-naptime." I cocked an eyebrow at Sun's shaky delivery of naptime. "Plus the lights have to be off and thats rule number one of the daycare! Lights on!"
"So, wait, if the lights are meant to stay on then does that mean naptime was…cancelled?" I asked, not entirely sure what to say about naptime besides cancelled.
"Yes! Due to many complaints given by parents Fazbear thought it was crucial to allow me to entertain the kids until they do some maintenance on Moon!" Sun explained.
"Okay, well I'm just here to meet you I guess and look over the daycare." I let the idea of meeting Moon go easily enough. If Fazbear thought the AI was too dangerous right now I was gonna leave it alone. Fazbear and danger went hand in hand but if they thought something was dangerous it was best to listen while thinking the worst because they're likely not mentioning something important.
"Well, you're always welcome in the daycare, Mr. Schmidt!" Sun exclaimed before suddenly going back through the large doors and slamming them shut. "Goodbye!"
I simply stared at the doors for a moment before finally leaving for the staff tunnel I knew was nearby. I'd definetly be keeping an eye on the Daycare Attendant in the future. If the Moon AI was already unstable and something were to happen?
I doubt it would be pretty.
And there we go.
