The Fall of Balentyne Part 4

A while later after Dread had his arm bandaged up, he had arranged for Sir Balin to have light duties and for him to be in his quarters to give the guards orders before they started their shifts.

When the first patrol arrived for their orders Sir Balin was waiting along with Dreads Crew disguised as one of the other patrols. Once the door to the room closed the patrol were caught completely off guard and easily dispatched. The bodies were hidden and the same thing happened one by one to the rest of the patrols.

The castles defences were now completely down the only thing remaining was the Lord Commander and his personal guards.

Dread and his crew made their way to the Lord Commanders chambers. Dread disguised as Sir Balin, made his way into the chambers to find the Lord Commander sitting behind his desk.

Sir Balin I thought I told you to rest.

I need no rest; my achievements provide me with much…..vigour. After all, the strange things that have been going on…..I have been the cause of them. I have brought Balentyne to its knees and now you are the only thing between me, Captain Dread and complete victory.

Dread dropped his disguise.

Captain Dread you truly are as cunning as the legends say, but your legend ends here tonight.

The Lord Commander then drew his sword.

My legend will grow even more tonight, despite having to use my off hand you are no match for me. I let my guard down once today it won't happen again.

Dread drew his sword.

The Lord Commander charged Dread and unleashed a quick barrage of attacks. Dread sidestepped the first few attacks and parried the last. While the blades were crossed Dread hit the Lord Commanders breast plate with his stump leaving a bloody mark.

Dread smiled as the Lord Commanders attention shifted momentarily from the swords to the bloody mark. Dread then came at the Lord Commander with a thrust from down low catching him on his Femoral artery and severing his legs ligament.

The Lord Commander continued to fight but not only had he lost the use of his left leg, he was losing blood fast. Dread would have enjoyed prolonging the Lord Commanders death but decided to take no chances and kicked the Lord Commanders good leg from under him and the Lord Commander unable to maintain his balance fell to the floor in a heap. Before the Lord Commander could recover Dread slit his throat.

Meanwhile Dreads crew dealt with the guards outside the Lord Commanders chambers and killed the last few soldiers who were off duty while they slept.

Once the castle was totally under his control, Captain Dread shouted to his men,

Man, the walls and launch the flare so that the Fire Axe knows he can begin his assault. When he arrives, I will be in the Lord Commanders chambers.

Dread made his way to the Lord Commanders chambers and made himself comfortable behind his desk.

A while later there was a knock on the door.

Enter, exclaimed Dread.

The Fire Axe walked into the room and said,

You could have left some soldiers for me, killing townsfolk isn't half as fun.

Dread smiled,

I said I would take the castle and that is what I done.
