Ryo stood on the sidewalk, staring up at Dee's window, wondering what he was doing. He hadn't meant to come here, he'd just needed to put some distance between himself and Leo Grant; every time he ran into the man responsible for the order that resulted in his parents' death, it left Ryo confused and unsettled. That wasn't surprising, he had mixed feelings, wanting to kill Grant, knowing he couldn't, not when Grant was unarmed and not committing a crime, although… The way Grant acted, it seemed that he would welcome death. Ryo almost, almost felt sorry for Leo, so yes, confusing, not to mention disturbing.

He'd run from the crime boss, feeling the need to get away, clear his head, not really thinking about where he was going. He vaguely recalled jumping on a bus and showing his pass, but now he was here, outside Dee's building instead of his own, and maybe that was inevitable. Anytime anything was bothering him, he always turned to his partner, knowing Dee would willingly lend an ear, and wouldn't judge him for needing someone to talk with. He was a better friend than Ryo deserved.

The lights were still on, shining through the fourth-floor windows, so Dee must still be up; maybe it wasn't too late to drop by unannounced. Ryo hoped it wasn't, because he really needed to see Dee. Nothing could still his racing thoughts better than seeing his partner's face, hearing Dee's voice… It was as if, when Dee was there, in front of him, everything that was bothering him simply went away and he felt grounded, able to think clearly again.

Letting himself into the lobby, he made his way up the stairs, hesitating briefly outside his partner's door before ringing the bell, hoping Dee wouldn't mind him dropping by so late. He didn't, of course, not when he saw who his late-night visitor was. Dee was always much too good to him, patient and comforting, which made Ryo feel guilty all over again, and yet…

He felt a lot better after a shower, better still when, sitting on the bed, Dee wrapped one arm around him and kissed his forehead, his cheek, his lips, and… Suddenly everything seemed so clear, it was like a lightbulb going on in Ryo's head. This was why he was here; this was what he needed. Saying yes had never been simpler.
