Knight Of Remnant Chapter 3

Hunts, Meetings and Infiltration

A Few Months Ago, Vale Roman Torchwick

I was in a shitty mood. A little girl beat up my goons and lost me my dust. I got chewed up by Cinder (that girl gives me the heebie-jeebies) and now I need to raid a Schnee Dust Company shipment and work with White Fang. Life is a dream.

But my bad mood will not last long. You see for the last while I have been tracking this information ring. I stumbled on them a while ago, when I was looking for a new way to get info not from Junior. He seemed a little risky since he got his ass beat by a teenager. Now it is kinda ironic that thought that, considering that almost happened to me.

Anyway, like I said I found this group of agents who worked for a mystery guy. Now this system was insanely old, like pre-war. I instructed Neo to find this guy and get him on our side. Well, she had some luck. This guy lived on the other side of town. The old side. When Neo came back, she was pretty beat up. Her Aura was down, she was scarred and bruised up.

She was able to communicate to the guy that we could negotiate and he let her live. He wanted to talk to me. Alone. So here I am. Nervously walking down the seedy part of Vale looking for my, hopefully, new ally.

I reached the door. On the door was a crude embalm of a crown. It had a rip across it. A shattered crown. I knocked on the door. A little anticlimactic for my long search for the guy, but I take what I can get.

"Move and you die.", a whisper spoke. I swallowed.

"Hey there. I'm Roman Torchwick, the guy you wanted to meet." I was met with silence. Is this where I die? Now I wished I had reinforcements.

The voice spoke again. "Get in here." I breathed a sigh of relief. Pulling out a cigar I took along smoke. I needed to be calm, cool, collected. Time to put on my business smile. I walked through the door.

I don't know what I expected to see. Dead bodies? Riches beyond measure? Nope. The room was plain and wooden. There was a map of Vale with some notes written in a weird language and an unusually large cot.

Then a figure shimmered in front of me. The figure was in front of me. He was tall, yeah, but I have seen taller. What was weird was his armour, pure black, with some wear and tear. His cloak had a shimmery texture. On one side of his armour there was a red, winged blade. On the other was a red symbol that was a flame surrounded with a wreath. In his hands was a massive gun. The muzzle was huge and it seemed like it could shoot bullets the size of a can of beer. His helmet had red visors and a helmet that looked like knight.

"You want me to join you." It was a statement of fact, not a question.

"Yeah, I mean why not? I pay a pretty lien and there are more benefits and connectio-"

"I don't need money and I am more connected than you could ever be." The guy cut me off. Kind of annoying, but I wasn't really in a position of power here.

"You are stealing Dust and not money," he continued. "You are planning something big, and I not only want to know what, but want to have a part of it."

"Two questions, number one. Why would you want that and number two, why would I agree to this?" I asked the warrior.

He looked at me before saying, "My reasons for information are my own. And I am a good fighter. I sense I would be a boon to your force."

I considered this for a second. It would be a good idea for me to have a little private operative, outside of Cinder's control.

I smiled. Putting out my hand I smiled and said, "Deal." He didn't shake my hand. Just looked at me and spoke. "Tell me what I need to know, and than get out of here." Damn it, I thought Adam would the only edgelord in our little army.

A few weeks later, Balazar POV.

I hated the redhaired idiot with the bowler hat. He acted like he was the king of Remnant and yet lost to a child. Overconfident and yet exploitable. Pathetic and weak. The only thing I could admire was the fact that he was resourceful. And yet here I am. Bailing him out from yet more children at the docks. I looked out from the Bullhead. A huntress in training held a sword at Torchwick's throat. She was saying some inane rant to the White Fang henchmen.

Jumping from the Bullhead I landed outside the conflict zone. My cloak shimmered and I was invisible. Moving swiftly between the crates I spotted the huntress that held Torchwick at sword point. Now she was fighting the White Fang terrorists. I recognized her. Blake Belladonna. Daughter of chieftain on Menagerie, Ghira Belladona. Ex-lover of Adam Taurus. If she died, we would have more enemies. I reanimated and shot a flurry of bolt rounds into her back.

Whirling around with her blade she shot a few Dust rounds into me. Turning invisible again, I dodged the hit, before slicing at her with my combat knife. Bolt rifle out I slammed into her, knocking her into a dust crate.

I unloaded the rest of clip into Belladonna I knocked her Aura to almost an almost irrelevant point. She used her semblance to make clones and try to escape. I turned my thermal on and turned invisible again. I located her real self as she barreled towards me. Before her sword slammed onto me, I pulled my combat knife up and caught the hit. Pinning her down with my other arm I punched her in the face, knocking her out.

Turning invisible again I looked again and saw that Torchwick got the better of the faunus boy he was fighting. I looked up and saw a red-haired girl. However, she had no vitals, meaning she was a robot. Likely the Atlasian project I've been hearing chatter about on the CCT. Beside her was a red-cloaked girl with a scythe. I pulled up her files. Neice of Qrow Branwen, favoured by Ozpin and a silver-eyed warrior. I t would be risky to kill this one too. Too many connections, same for the robot.

I pulled my bolt rifle out and add another clip in. Turning invisible again I see the robot use its swords to try to down the other bullheads. I shot bolt after bolt, destroying its weapons. I steady myself and shoot several bolts into the robot. As it wobbled from the force of the hits, I continued my suppressive hits and leapt onto the crate.

I knocked the robot down off the crate. I saw its aura levels drops and I put two bolts into it, breaking its legs

"Hey, stop that!", a childish voice cried out. I looked down and saw Torchwick losing. Again. The girl was able to team up with the faunus to defeat Torchwick. Leaping down from the crate I slammed my bolt rifle on the faunus's head and pulled my knife down to cut his staff.

"What th-", the boy didn't finish his train of thought because I kicked him across the docks. When I did that, I realized he was a student from Haven Academy. The girl was fighting Torchwick, and I was about to put the rest of my clip into her when I heard a scream of anger from the other side of the docks.

A yellow, flaming huntress slammed into me. She knocked me across the docks. I saw a young huntress with red eyes, flaming hair, gauntlets, and an angry expression. I recognized her as the sister of Ruby Rose. Yang Xiao-Long. Though she looked strikingly like Raven Branwen. Beside her was Weiss Schnee. I looked behind me. A fire dust crate. I wonder…

Leveling my bolter up I shot at Yang and bolstered a few shots into her as the White Fang henchmen attacked the Schnee. Xiao-Long took the bait and angrily rushed at me, shotgun rounds hitting my armour. Last moment I leapt to the side right before she hit me. Slamming into the crate I threw a grenade at the crate, erupting it. Fire engulfed the docks. Thankfully the crate was isolated and I didn't start a chain reaction. The Xiao-Long lay down on the ground. The explosion knocked out her Aura and the arm she landed was bent out of shape.

The Schnee was defeating the henchmen. I turned invisible and snuck across the battlefield. I moved behind the Schnee and brought up my bolter to her head I emptied the entire clip into her head. She wasn't expecting it and I knocked her down with one, servo-powered blow.

Torchwick was defeating the girl. On the other hand, Torchwick is an idiot, so he would probably kill the child. We had enough enemies though so we didn't need more. I grabbed the girl and threw her across the docks, before shooting her in the chest. Not enough to kill, but she would be thoroughly injured. I turned to Torchwick.

"Police will come here soon, we had better get going." I told the thief.

"Why not just kill the kids? You have a moral code or something?"

As ridiculous as the idea of a Dark Angel having morals was the mans idiocy annoyed me more. "The children have relatives in high places, and even if they didn't, we would paint a target on ourselves. It would be a stupid action." And with that I went into the Bullhead with the dust.

Lazarus POV

I walked through the forest, on my way to Vale. I thought of my quest, to kill the grimm on this world. It reminded me of the quests knights of Caliban would partake into protect their land. In essence the defenders of Remnant were not in that different of a position than many of death worlds I had seen. Another reason I needed my Fallen brothers.

Zachariah was hiding something though. Not lying, hiding. He didn't trust me yet. Secrets will be the downfall of the Dark Angels, if we had not already fallen. I walked through the forest on my Vale. I heard a flutter in the trees. My hand went to Enmity's Edge. Grimm blood encrusted the handle. A remnant of a deathstalker I culled a half hour ago. I looked around the forest for what caused the disturbance.

In the corner of my eye, I see a black flutter. I move to face a tree, a bit taller than me. Noticing a crow in the trees I turned around, chuckling. It was just an animal.

Wait.

I turned, looking into the eyes of the crow. They were red. It moved around, like it was nervous. I pulled out Enmity's Edge. It seemed innocent, but I lived in this universe to learn that there is no innocence. The eyes, they threw me off. They were intelligent. I pulled Enmity's Edge into a strike, glancing the bird.

I knew it. No animal could move that fast. The creature morphed into an adult human. Middle-aged. Red eyes. Black, messy hair. Stubble. He pulled out a large scythe. He was a hunter. All this I took in in milliseconds. Pulling up Enmity's Edge I sliced the hunter across the chest. His aura flared before he pulled his scythe into a sweeping strike. I sidestepped and pulled out my bolt pistol out. A round ripped its way across the battlefield.

The man moved to the side, dodging the attack. His scythe turned into a large one-edged blade. He lunged towards me. I moved to the side, dodging the initial strike, but the follow-up strike struck my ceramite greaves. Bringing my power sword up I slashed the hunters' sword as he turned it into a scythe, breaking the mechanism.

"What the fuck, man?!" The hunter exclaimed. "Why did you have to d- "

He didn't get to finish that statement before a bolter round slammed into his chest. Most people think that the head is the best place to shoot people. Perhaps usually, but against aura users the head's rounded shape helps deflects most shots, but the back or chest are flat, so it is easier to lower the aura.

The force from the hit knocked the hunter off his feet, ripping him through a tree. As I reloaded my pistol the hunter ran towards me. He pulled what was left of his weapon up into a slash at my chest. Pulling Enmity's Edge up I was a millisecond too late and the hunter brought his weapon above his head it slammed into my breastplate, ripping through the first level of ceramite in my chest.

"Got ya." The hunter said. He probably thought that his blade had reached my heart. My fist collided with his chest and knocked him off his feet. I threw the psykers weapon to the side. As the psyker fell I slashed Enmity's Edge into Him. He surprised me by catching the strike.

"Didn't think I could do that did ya?", the hunter grunted out.

The hunter stood up before jumping to the side, likely to grab his weapon. I shot a bolt towards the weapon. The heretic grabbed before the shot connected. The shower of the dirt covered the battlefield. I switched my vision to thermal.

The heretic stumbles around for a bit and I realize that he cannot see well.

"This is the last things my lungs need!", he said coughing. Or breathe apparently

I pull out krak five grenades out of my belt and throw them to the ground. He resulting explosion covers the battlefield and uproots several trees. I rushed towards the hunter, blade raised and oaths made.

The blade sliced down upon and hit the heretic between the shoulder-blades. I shot my bolt pistol into the hunter's chest. Bringing Enmity's Edge into a sweep I struck the hunter again.

He groped for his blade and blindly slashed at me. I moved to the side, dodging the attack and shot another bolt into the psyker. Another blind strike. I knocked his blade out of his hand. I looked up and noticed that the dust was dispersing from the field. My advantage will not hold for long. The traitor realized this too and struck at my leg joint, hoping to injure me. With his weapon this would have been possible. Now he just buckled my leg a bit.

He was a skilled fighter though and he took my temporary imbalance to try to knock me down. I was able to stabalize myself though and I swung Enmity's Edge down on him.

A red ripple covered the heretic's body. I pulled my bolt pistol up to the psyker's head and was about to kill him when something Zachariah told me came to my mind.

"We have eyes and ears everywhere; it is how we survive". That is what Zachariah told me.

Meanwhile the heretic started blubbering from underneath me.

"Look man, robot, I saw you kill those Grimm over there and I think you could do something better in Remnant than killing some feral monsters. I know Ozpin and he might need your help."

I pull up my bolter. "I don't care. But tell your master and the people that there is a Space Marine on Remnant. Tell them that Lazarus, Master of the Fifth Dark Angel Company and Master of the Unseen Ritual. I am here and I am an Angel of Death, and I am the instrument of the Emperor's will."

I shove the hunter down and turn around, moving and walking on the dirt road to Vale.

Qrow POV

Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit, and finally: holy shit. This rushed through my head as I flew to Beacon Academy. I thought my day would be a good one! Or, at least better than usual. I thought we had a new ally in this guy! Apparently not though. Must be my damn Semblance. After beating my ass, he spewed out some words. This left me with questions such as what is a Space Marine? Who is the Emperor? Why did the guy's sword glow? Where can I get a drink? So many questions, so little time.

I flew over the Emerald Forest, pulling into a dive as I landed right outside Beacon's courtyard. Turning into a human I rushed across to Ozpin's office.

"Uncle Qrow!" a shout came through the crowded courtyard. A girl with a red cloak and scythe on the back rushed up to me.

I chuckled "Hey there Pipsqueak."

"Hey uncle!", My other niece came over. It was still kind of shocking how much she looked like Raven.

"Hey there Firecracker, how are things at Beacon?"

"They're great Qrow! These are my teammates! This is Blake, Weiss and that is team JNPR!" Ruby started talking quickly and didn't even pause to take a breath. I smiled. She was so much like Summer.

"Hey kids I would love to do a meet and greet, but I need to see Ozpin, super secret hunter stuff you know!", I rushed away, running to Ozpin's elevator.

If only I noticed a redhead with green eyes look at me.

Pyrrha POV

Breathe in, out, in, out. That was what The Teacher told me whenever I drew power from the Warp. In and out. Be calm, but controlled. Focused. Guarded. Prepared. Not from other hunters, I could kill them easily, but from Chaos. Last thing I want is to be a beacon to the Ruinous Powers.

I turned my psychic powers into a dagger, thrusting it into Qrow's mind. I was suspicious of him when my mental "net" of sorts felt fear and shock through him. What could make a hunter feel that? It was honestly easy to infiltrate a hunter's mind. As The Teacher taught me, there were no psykers of the normal kind on Remnant, so no one had any protections. Aura meant that they were practically thrusting their soul out. It was too easy.

Looking into his mind I saw a fight, a fight he had with a warrior. Space Marine. Teacher called himself a Space Marine. Even than the symbol on the soldier's armour, a winged blade was the same on The Teacher's armour. Teacher had to know.

"Pyr, you good? You zoned out for a second.", Jaune said. Sweet, innocent, loveable Jaune. I smiled at him. Going to classes I thought about The Teacher and how he raised me. Actually, raised is a strong word as my foster family in Argus mostly raised me, but he taught me. I mean I started going to tournaments because I needed to test out my skills. "Polarity" was just my psykic powers manifesting.

The Teacher had the idea to get me into Beacon. He said that I needed to go there and tell him everything that went on there, especially about Ozpin.

I had a… complicated relationship with The Teacher. He saved my life, trained me. Without him I would have died in a random village. Or been corrupted by Chaos. I owed him my life, and he trained me for years.

I shook my head. I lost myself in thought. That was unforgivable. The forces of Chaos are not distracted, and neither should I. Walking into Glynda Goodwitch's classroom I smiled. Combat class. That is at least one thing I liked.

I sat at the side of the room, with a clear view of the arena. Glynda walked into the room, riding crop in her right hand. The entire class went quiet. Our teacher wasn't many things, but a disciplinarian she was.

Remembering the first, and only, time The Teacher disciplined me. I was about ten years old. I got angry at The Teacher, because I complained about the amount of training he put me through. I wanted to be a normal girl for once. Could you blame me? I was just ten. Since seven I've been training to be Remnant's next psyker. He just looked at me. Then images appeared in my mind. Flaming cities. Bloody carnage. Violent cults. Huge piles of skulls. Death and decay. Whole civilisations rotting and turning into bile. Organs liquidating and pouring out of eyelids, mouths, ears. Unnatural power ripping through whole town. Daemons leaping from portals and preying on the weak. Alliances and betrayals that put thousands at risk. Depravity, no child or adult should ever see. Violent blood orgies. Torture chambers. Mangled, horned, cut bodies.

It was a few weeks until I stopped crying. I would have cried for a whole year if not for The Teacher making me stop. I remembered what he told me. "You have an important role in life. It is not easy. I am the only person on the planet that knows how you feel. But do not cry or complain about your life. Trust me, life in this universe can be much, much worse."

"-versus Pyrrha Nikos.", The professor's voice rang out. I looked up and saw all of team CRDL walk onto the arena. I picked up my weapons and headed towards the arena. The enemy team moved in a ring around me.

"Go Pyrrha!", a shout rang out. I saw Ruby looking at me with a big smile on her face. That made me chuckle. If she could smile, I could smile. I looked at the stands and saw the rest of my team and team RWBY. I realized than and there what The Teacher meant. These were the people I needed to protect. If I mess up, they will just be playthings for Chaos. My smile faded. I could not let that happen.

Readying my weapons up I gauged the team in front of me. In front of me was Cardin. Russel and Dove were on my left flank and Sky on my right. Using my psykic powers I probed Cardin's mind. I saw their plan. Pin me down with Dove and Sky with Cardin attacking me and Russel keeping me from retreating. In short keep me from attacking all of them at once. Good plan. Would have worked too, if I wasn't a psyker.

Bringing my spear up I leaped at Cardin. The plan relied on me being defensive. They had no plan if I went on the offensive. My weapons had name, Milo and Akouo, but The Teacher was clear that a weapon was only a tool for destruction, not something to cherish. Only the greatest of weapons could truly be considered remarkable, and mine were not one of them. Not yet.

Leaping at Cardin I tensed as my spear hit him in the chest. The hit pushed him back and he slammed his mace onto my back. Felt a tingle as my psykic wards blocked the hit. I shove Cardin to the side, using my "Semblance" to propel him into the wall. I sensed Russel's knives coming towards me and whirled around, knocking it down, before launching my spear into Russel.

He was knocked across the room. Sky and Dove jumped me from the sides. I used my spear to block Sky's hit and parried Dove's slice. Sky tried to use his spear to sweep me off my feet. I parried the hit and brought my sword into a thrust. Using my psykic powers I moved his spear to the side and used my shield to knock him off his feet.

Dove moved at me from the back and I used my "Semblance" to pull his sword away from me. Running over to my spear I pulled it up and blocked an attack by Russel. Bringing my weapon up and dodged Cardin's hit. The hit went into Russel. I turned my spear into a rifle and shot Dove, stopping him from attacking me.

Russel and Cardin were getting them out of the mess I put them in. I used my psykic powers to subtly keep them down. Sky was the only real person who was in fighting condition. And that was barely. Launching myself at him I launched a flurry of attacks. He was knocked around and I decided to just finish him. Knocking him down his Aura was finished.

Cardin and Russel had composed themselves and were staring me down. Both of their Aura levels were in yellow. Russel wobbled a bit than fell on his face and groaned. Cardin looked up at me and growled. He rushed at me and took a swing. I sidestepped and knocked him on the head. Professor Goodwitch called the match.

I smiled. But it was an empty smile. If I was a huntress in training, I would be proud of myself. I just won a four on one. But I wasn't. I was a psyker, and I knew I could have beaten them in seconds. Infiltrate their minds and incapacitate them. But The Teacher told me to not reveal my powers under any circumstances to anyone. Unless you were about to die.

I turned and looked at my team. Teacher could wait. Now my friends needed me.

Lazarus POV Vale

Looking upwards at the Atlasian warships I wondered how I could get into Vale. For a week I was here, trying to find my way inside. I wondered how my Fallen brothers stayed hidden for a hundred years. The brother here though was part of the old Firewing. Infiltration was his craft. I decided that my greatest chance was either staying here and waiting for him to come to me or wait for a distraction to get in.

That was why I was sneaking around the city and killing as many grimm as possible. Most civilians would think that this downturn of grimm would be due to Atlasian activity, but another Astartes would see this as another Angel of Death's handiwork.

And so, I stayed here in wait. Dark Angels were not known for anything but complete, grim determination. So, I stayed in wait. I stood here, looking through the treeline towards the city. In comparison to Imperial Hive Cities, it was tiny in nature and the technology was primitive. Again, the planet's similarity to Caliban was uncanny. Why did the Emperor send me here? Maybe The Lion in his wisdom could discern the meaning of my journey.

Suddenly my trans-human senses heard commotion on the western side of Vale. I rushed over to that side of the wall, my Mark X armour's servos and gene-crafted muscles rushing me towards my target.

I stopped when the sensers on my Spiritshield Helm alerted me of a sudden drop. Looking down I noticed the city of Vale under attack. There was a breach of the wall and grimm were flooding into the city. My helmet sensors could see a group of brightly coloured huntresses fighting the grimm uselessly. I also noticed a group of bullheads, the craft used for aerial transport on this planet, moving towards the breach from the local hunter academy.

I needed to move quickly.

Jumping from the cliff I pulled Enmity's Edge out and landed with a thud on the ground. Using my Heavenfall Blade to cut through the first group of beowulfs. A slice cut through an ursai. Blood spurt. I rushed on. Running through the grimm, killing the occasional one that tried to kill me, I made it to the walls.

Looking upwards I noticed the Bullheads getting closer. I ran to the slums on the edge of the city. That was where a Space Marine would hide. Not too many civilians, those there could be quietly and easily killed and bribed. Definitely no huntsmen.

"Another one!", a panicked voice shouted. I turned and saw a small child with white clothes and hair. The other huntresses turned to me again. They saw one of the Fallen. I needed to move quickly. If I fight them my cover will be blown when the Bullheads arrive. I turned away from them and rushed to the seedier parts of Vale, physiology and armour working in sync to launch me to my objective.

Reaching the alleys and small streets I slowed my sprint. Rushing into the nearest home that looked abandoned I punched through the door and made my way in. Perhaps not subtle, but I needed to lay low before resuming my search for the Fallen in Vale.

Inside the building was a small table and a hallway that lead to another room. The ceiling was small for me and I moved down and crouched. I would not do well if I engaged in close quarters.

A Few Hours Later Lazarus POV

It was dark now. A small pile of dead curious civilians lay beside me. No hunters. I slipped out into the city. Looking around I saw the street near my temporary retreat empty. Still Enmity's Edge and my bolt pistol were out.

I had no real way to locate and find the other Dark Angel, my hope was that he will find me. What if Zachariah betrayed me though? Would I find that out until it was too late? I shook my head of these thoughts; I needed to concentrate.

Moving through the city I saw homeless people and homeowners take furtive glances at me. My time here was running out. How did my brothers survive here? That I did not know, but perhaps they could teach me. Or perhaps not depending on how they react to the Lion's return. Zachariah didn't completely trust me, and I doubt many of my other brothers would.

I kept moving through the city. If several hunters found me, I don't think I could kill them all. They might be weak psykers, but they were still psykers. I kept moving. The last thing I needed was to be ambushed. I turned the corner and saw a symbol. It was crudely scratched and cut into the wall. It was three lines crossed in the middle with lines where a cross guard would be on a sword. Numbers and words in Low Gothic were around it. I recognized the symbol from when I was with Zachariah.

Deciphering the codes on the side I knew that the next symbol was deeper in the city. Thinking back, I realized that it would be wise to try to see if a bounty of sorts existed for me. I will later, after I found the other Fallen.

The trail of symbols leads me to a small bunker near the walls. It has been an hour since my search and I realized that the people I have encountered and not killed likely told the local arbites about me. I had to keep moving. The bunker was far from the rest of Vale.

I was at the doors when I felt a tingle of energy at the back of my neck. I knew that feeling. Psyker. Turning around I saw a cloaked warrior with a curved blue blade and lighting erupting from his armour. On his chest. A downwards, red, winged blade.

And here is chapter 3. Sorry for the wait, but I was a bit busy his month. See you next time.
