Chapter 2: Started the Academy Life with an Android
The mission had been simple. Too simple.
Deploy a single YoRHa android to assist Leon Fou Bartfort. Remain discreet. Collect data. Avoid interfering with the plot.
Naturally, everything went wrong within the first week.
The shuttle descended silently on the outskirts of the Royal Capital, concealed by its cloaking field. Four black-clad figures stepped out, their steps uniform, mechanical, and precise.
Vice-Commander White was already there, arms crossed and voice cold.
"Unit-210. Report."
The short-haired android gave a salute.
"Initial insertion failed to meet objectives. Target Leon requires additional logistical and historical data. Current world exhibits insufficient compatibility with support parameters. Cultural anomalies include... excessive frills, irrational noble hierarchy, and poor swordsmanship fundamentals."
White narrowed her eyes."Reinforcements authorized. Units—state your designation and mission."
"Unit-B2. Assigned to Adventurer's Guild. Objective: Assess dungeon logistics and combat data. Secondary: Identify potential training structures for Leon."
"Unit-A4. Assigned to Academy Training Grounds. Objective: Record and analyze noble sword forms. Build training profiles."
"Unit-60. Assigned to Library. Objective: Gather kingdom-centric knowledge, myth structures, and socio-political systems."
White nodded sharply.
"Operation 'Academic Integration' greenlit. Minimal contact with key figures. No interference with Olivia or Prince Julius' entourage."
Unit-210 tilted her head.
"Define 'interference'."
"If she isn't trying to kill someone, leave her alone."
A Few Days Later
"Operator 210," came the quiet ping of the neural uplink. "I have visual sighting of a woman who does not resemble the individual designated Olivia. Her general behavior suggests that she will attempt to talk to the Crown Prince. Target Olivia has also been sighted in the area. Please advise."
"Due to the timing, it is suspected that allowing the unknown woman to speak to the crown prince will potentially prevent Olivia from initiating contact. Mission objective updated: neutralize unknown woman."
A sharp yelp rang out from behind a hedge. Seconds later, Unit-A4 emerged from the bushes, dragging a dazed noble girl by the ankle.
"Target has been apprehended. Unit-A4 is relocating target. Unit-210 remains for further observation."
And that's when she heard a voice behind her.
"Did something happen here?" She turned.
The Crown Prince, Julius Rapha Holfort, was staring at her. Well, this was suboptimal.
Thinking fast, Unit-210 straightened her posture and deadpanned:
"Just lost and letting out my frustration in private."
Julius's eyes drifted to the ground behind her, where a small crater had been gouged out by the earlier struggle."I see."
"I have anger management issues. Could you point me in the direction of the auditorium?"
"Why don't I just take you there? I need to be going that way anyway."
"No need. I suspect you were here to be alone. Don't let my emotional outburst disrupt your walk."
He blinked.
"You're an odd one, you know that?"
"Confirmed."
A Week Later – Leon's Dorm Room
Leon was pacing. The story wasn't progressing.
Olivia wasn't talking to Julius. Events were off. Way off.
That's when Unit-210 appeared beside his desk like a ghost. "Commander Leon. Report."
"Lay it on me."
"Unknown noblewoman approached Julius during critical encounter window. Olivia's approach was interrupted. I intervened."
"You what?!"
"Neutralized the distraction. Olivia remained undisturbed."
"You took the protagonist's spot at the first flag-raising event!"
"Unintended side effect. Julius now attempts to initiate conversation at every opportunity when you are not present."
Leon facepalmed.
"We'll have to rotate you out. Post a different unit. He'll stop if he doesn't recognize the face."
Vice-Commander White's voice cut in through his earpiece.
"Negative. If Unit-210 is replaced, the prince will begin investigating. He is already suspicious."
"But if—" A knock interrupted him as the other three units entered the room.
They lined up and saluted.
"Report."
"Unit-B2: Encountered nobleman Greg Fou Seberg in Adventurer's Guild. Accidentally saved his life in dungeon. He now requests daily sparring."
"Unit-A4: My imitation of noble sword form was observed by the Academy instructor assigned to Chris. He asked me to train with the nobleman. He now actively seeks me out for further 'teaching.'"
"Unit-60: On first day in library, I requested brief assistance from nobleman Brad Fou Field. He now attempts to initiate personal conversations during each visit. I have logged twelve questions about my hair."
Leon collapsed into his chair, hands dragging down his face."How?! How is it that every single one of you got caught up in the capture targets' personal routes?!"
Vice-Commander White raised an eyebrow."Commander, this is what happens when you assign general-purpose combat units to social infiltration. I recommended Type-S models."
"I'm not deploying a Type-S! The last thing I need is some noble girl offering to buy one!"
Silence.
Unit-210 turned to White again."Should I begin cultural infiltration of noble gossip networks?"
"Start with bathhouse rumors."
Leon groaned into his hands."This academy life is going to kill me…"
