Greetings everyone and welcome to my second fan fic! I've been skirting around this for a while, so I decided to finally post it.
A quick side note, English is not my first language so I apologize for butchering certain words and grammar.

Chapter 1: The Beginning
Summer of 1873
10 miles off the coast of Skull Island
A school of various fishes of the Polynesian seas swam without worry, drifting in the azure ambiance, either searching for food or simply migrating to another area.
Then they stopped as they sensed an immensely powerful presence far away, millions upon millions of years old approaching them.
They scatter swiftly in fear, internal terror giving them far above-average speed.
Then moments later, said presence appeared from the shadows, a low rumble reverberating through the oceanic expanse as the gigantic being passed by, measuring over five hundred feet in length with three rows of jagged dorsal plates shaped like maple leaves protruding from its back and crocodilian-like scales layering his wide strong figure. From his broad neck, the capillaries in his opened gills filtered the oxygen from the water while the orange eyes on his square face with sharp teeth were lost in slight absent-minded contemplation.
The name of this Titan was Godzilla.
Through the cobalt expanse of the ocean, Godzilla swam in a zig-zag formation, his mountain-sized body nearing the island on which the Exiled lived, undulating his tail to give himself extra speed while getting closer and closer to the giant mass of land, a place which he didn't plan to visit at all.
It's been a few days since he has awoken from his deep slumber. Opening his eyes, Godzilla was greeted by the sight of a ruined temple city, lava cascading from the walls like waterfalls and actual water making it look like a lake with small stone islands scattered across. He rose from the platform on which he usually slumbered, stretching, and yawning from the deep sleep.
He felt refreshed and content in his sanctuary, in his home.
He left it, but not before bidding his farewell to his old friend with many spikes by gently nuzzling his skull, the one who has been gone for countless years now, his skeletal remains forever lying near the entrance of Godzilla's sanctuary, guarding it even in death.
Godzilla left that sunken city that used to be full of humans that worshiped him, building statues and temples in his honor, used one of many tunnels that were scattered all over the world and allowed him to move quickly when needed, moved from the deep dark abyss towards the lighter waters, and eventually, he reached the surface.
Breaching that thin veil between the sea and the air, he was pleased by the fact it was daytime, so the light of the sun could reflect itself on his face and his massive, scaled body, feeling its warmth. He looked around the area in which he surfaced and saw everything in blue.
The ocean, the clear sky, he appreciated the beauty of it. In his own animalistic way.
He gazed at the scenery for a few minutes and prepared himself for his patrol around the planet. Though he was capable of sensing every Titan in the world, he wondered how many years had passed since he roamed the world last time. Would he stumble upon a human settlement by chance? A ship made of wood maned by those silly, little creatures, firing tiny metal pellets that just bounced off his skin? Would they scream in terror and try to fight him in a suicidal vain? Or would they be in awe and declare him God once again?
Well, it was time to find out.
The first day was ordinary, uneventful, and most importantly, peaceful.
He passed several islands, saw a couple of large flocks of birds in the sky migrating somewhere, scared a few humpback whales migrating his way, and even saw one of those human ships from far away at night, which he noticed still had sails, but was now covered in more metal. It did not notice nor bother him so in turn Godzilla left it alone, ignoring distant panicked alarms at the sight of his dorsal plates.
But other than that, nothing special.
On the second day, however, as Godzilla prepared to continue his usual patrol around the world, he stopped. Because in the distance, he heard… a roar.
It was a powerful one. In its own right. A call that he recognized. A call that belonged to ancient enemies of his long-extinct kind. The ones that were exiled. The ones who were the closest in personality to those small humans and were their protectors. The ones who challenged his Mother, and his kin.
The Great Apes.
Godzilla's large orange eyes widened in surprise. And then he snarled in the direction of the roar as he floated in the middle of the ocean. He didn't concern himself too much with them in the past as he always avoided that place. As long they stayed on that island, he had no conflict with them.
Then another roar rang in the distance. A growling hiss. He recognized that sound as well. The Crawlers. Distant relatives of his kind.
What were they doing there?
They were old allies in the past against the Great Apes, back a long time ago, when they attempted to usurp their position as the Alphas of this world.
They were led by a red-furred one, Scar, an especially cruel Great Ape, who wielded a whip with a blue crystal on the tip that could control the Cold Ones, rare powerful Titans, and used them to coerce other Great Ape tribes. Scar breached the surface and started covering the world in ice and winter that lasted for many years, disrupting the balance of the whole planet.
The Crawlers took their side and were very helpful back then, helping them cull the Great Apes' numbers in the bloody battle that forced them off the surface and back inside the Inner Earth. They also kept the Great Apes at bay while Godzilla and his kind dealt with the Cold Ones.
It lasted for days. And in the end…they won. At a heavy price.
Both sides suffered greatly, the Apes even more so. But the biggest blow was dealt to the Cold ones, who were for sure all but wiped out.
The Bright Ones arrived and sealed over half of the remaining Scar‛s army deep within Inner Earth, a massive cocoon making for a jail. The other half of the Great Apes saw the carnage's enormity and recognized their position. So, they bowed down to his Mother's reign.
It was decided that there was enough bloodshed.
Well, decided by his Mother, as their defeated foes were in no position to negotiate because they were at their complete mercy. Their distant kin objected, the taste for blood and carnage still strong in their maws and hearts, but a glare from the Alpha silenced them immediately.
Exile from the Inner Earth to the surface was the punishment for following Scar and attempting to defy them. They don't leave the Island, and in return, they are left alone. No harm will befall them.
Therefore, Godzilla was confused to hear both roars, that of old allies and enemies echoing in the distance. He sensed quite numerous of them too.
What were they doing there? Why suddenly do this?
This was why he was nearing the island in the first place. To investigate. To find out what is happening. If not for the barrier, he could have sensed what was happening easily.
Finally reaching his destination, Godzilla resurfaced to get a better look at the circular barrier of Skull Island.
The dark grey swirling clouds that covered the island's outskirts in a perpetual storm were still going strong even after all this time, an occasional flash of lightning thundering for anyone to see and hear, ensuring that it wasn't discovered by anyone else, especially those humans. It also reminded him…
Godzilla growled and swam forward, the dorsal plates on his back protruding menacingly through the water as he went through the barrier.
The storm shrouding the island didn't bother him at all. The feeble cold winds that blew on his face and the meagre lightning bolts that struck him all over his body and occasionally the plates could not deter him.
They were nothing to him. He had worse…
*BIBIBIBIBI
Godzilla growled at the memory of that cackle. Now was not the time for that. They were imprisoned in the deep north.
They had nothing to do with this.
As he approached the massive land mass, he could now perfectly hear that there was a fight. Roars of defiance and bloodlust still rang in the distance, deep within the island.
He broke through the dark barrier and was greeted by sunlight.
He neared the sand beach and stopped. Feeling a loose surface under all four limbs, he crawled over to the sandy plain, while the water from the ocean waves flooded the land in front of him, reaching the trees and the hills far away. When he found himself on much sturdier soil, he lifted himself with a mighty heave and stood knee-deep on two legs, casting a shadow over Skull Island as the water fell off his body in small waterfalls.
Thanks to the bright yellow sun that shone upon the island, the vibrant green colours are the first thing he sees. Green trees, hills, and valleys with brown-grey mountains in the distance, along with small stony spires that were positioned near the coast. Stretching for several miles of it, at the side and the front. They looked beautiful; even though Skull Island served as a prison for the Apes.
Nevertheless, Godzilla ignores it and begins to walk forward to start his investigation, leaving footprints on the sandy beach as the land trembles under his heavy marching.
The first Godzilla did was sniff the air and sure enough, he smelt death in the air. He approached the nearest source of it to his left, right around a mountain formation, and stopped as he saw the reason.
Both the Great Ape and Crawler were dead, the Great Ape lying on the side and the Crawler on its back. Their blood leaked from their bodies on the ground, resembling small red rivers while the area around them was torn apart, trees bent and uprooted, and the earth dented from the clear show of force. It was obvious that both had died fighting each other.
He growled.
Did they attempt to escape? Had Scar and his kin broken out from their prison?
Godzilla approached the corpses and took a closer look at the brown-furred body of a young Great Ape, which was covered in old scars and fresh deep cuts, the most glaring lethal one on its stomach, with entrails leaking out. His eyes were wide open and lifeless, staring at him in silence.
Was that the reason they were fighting?
Godzilla then turned his view at the Crawler's serpentine body. Fewer cuts, although the clearest evidence of its demise was a large piece of tree pierced in the Crawler's skull head, right in the eyes and through the brain.
Even though the Great Ape before was dying from that large cut, it still had enough strength to finish the Crawler. Godzilla was impressed by this. There was a good reason why they were a serious threat in the past.
Godzilla hears a pattern of small feet running near him and looks down to see what it is. And he sees several small humans, all painted in different colours gazing at him with shock, terror, and awe in their eyes, wielding those little sticks they called spears pointed at him. He could see how they trembled.
Ancestors of the human tribes that accompanied the exiled Great Apes to the surface. They probably knew about him through the Apes with their wall paintings, he wouldn't be surprised if they covered some parts of the Island with them.
The fearful looks he was receiving however were nothing new, whenever he encountered the humans, they would always look at him like that. Well, the humans he has met in the last of his few patrols. Then it is either an attempt to fight him or more commonly to flee from him when they realize their pathetic weapons fail to have any effect against him.
A long time ago, they were gazing at him with awe and worship. He and his kin were gods, his sanctuary the biggest sign of that reverence.
He decided to ignore their fearful gazes and check out the rest of the island for more. The path ahead of him was damaged, clear of additional dead bodies, so Godzilla strained his hearing to check for more Great Apes and Crawlers.
He could hear fighting in the distance and sniffed once again the air for even more death, more blood. He could also hear the surrounding storm close in on the center of the Island, blocking the sun that shone and making rain, lightning, and darkness descend on the Island and Godzilla.
*RUUMBLLEE- KRA-KOOOM
The humans scattered while Godzilla stood there, weighing his choices while the rain started to drench him, and the land grew darker under the heavy gazes of black clouds.
He decided to investigate further.
He paid the fallen combatants one more look, which he took into account that they barely reached his knees in height, and then advanced to the next location at a hurried pace, his elephant-shaped feet stomping through the green foliage and creating small earthquakes. On his way, he saw traces of blood smeared on the mountains, the hills, everywhere.
What happened here? There weren't any signs of life, besides the humans. Even smaller animals, such as birds or those small green buffalos were absent.
Not absent. Hiding.
When he eventually arrived at the location leading to a vast, large valley, he stopped and found out with the sudden flash of lightning what happened here.
*KRA-KOOOM
There weren't many things in his long, looong life that could shock him to his core. Nevertheless, they still existed, and the scene in front of him made him stop dead in his tracks, and his eyes widened in a disturbed manner.
Godzilla stood in front of a giant expansive valley with numerous rivers…and there were bodies everywhere, a scene resembling more slaughter rather than a fight. Rain and thunder added to the effect of twisted imagery.
Dozens of bodies, of his old allies and enemies, were scattered all over the valley in which he found himself. Some were lying whole with a few but clear deadly wounds, while others were torn apart savagely, limbs and heads everywhere. Rain washed away their blood and was beginning to accumulate in size, mixing, bleeding into the rivers, and threatening to spill on the rest of the Island into a small red ocean. The stench too was hitting him in full force, making him briefly shake his head in disgust.
What on Earth happened here?
His answers were given to him in the form of a desperate howl of painful rage and a hiss of unrestrained blood lust. Someone was still here. Alive. But the real question was for how long?
He snapped his head to his right and started to rush in that direction, following the echoes of conflict while his feet were caked in mud and blood. Godzilla also looked around while doing that and examined the bodies.
Both species were, as the ones he saw near the beach, big enough to reach his hips, some even slightly above that. However, several large claw marks, some evident as final, deadly strikes on the Apes, were clear evidence that one Crawler was larger than the rest. If someone so big was here, that obviously meant they were older, the one in charge, and probably came from-
He stops.
On his left. Small bodies scattered.
There were several juveniles and infants among the masses.
They were his enemies once but this shocked him even further. It quickly faded and turned into fury. The main reason his mother ceased the conflict was a great number of Ape cubs among the defeated. Mother was harsh but not cruel. She would never do that.
There are lines you just do not cross.
It's been a long time since he saw the carnage of this size. The last time he saw it was when those… parasites killed nearly every single member of his kin; everyone but him.
Only Godzilla remained. All alone in the world now.
He growled and picked up his pace.
Godzilla arrived, entering an area that can be described as a basin, just in time to see a pale white-furred Great Ape, female by the looks of it, fall on the ground with a thunderous *THUD, alongside two Crawlers dropping dead near her. Both had their jaws broken in a grisly display, bones protruding from their meaty mouths and blood swiftly following.
He saw how she fell near another dead Exile, a black-furred male, and dragged herself towards him. With one long look at him and with the last bit of strength, she grasped his hand and breathed out her last breath, not even noticing Godzilla's arrival.
They were surrounded by at least a dozen dead Crawlers, all broken and torn apart. Both had numerous wounds on their bodies, nearly adorned entirely in them. They alone killed them all.
He didn't know what to think of it.
He did hold great hatred for them once, though not the kind of hatred he held for that three-headed one that still burned inside him.
Held.
The War happened long ago because of one Great Ape whose evil knew no bounds and coerced others to do his bidding. There was no point in holding grudges, not after the massacre he witnessed.
Was anyone left? He doubted anyone survived.
He approached the scene to inspect it closely as the rain continued to fall. He crouched down and saw the ones in front of him were small like the rest.
How old they were? Probably barely young adults in their terms.
Godzilla was surprised by himself to feel saddened at the sight of it. They were probably mates.
A sense of shame washes over him as the storm picks up the pace and rain gets heavier.
There were several dozen Titans all over the world, but they were slumbering in peace. Inner Earth was a place rarely visited by him, as he was the Protector of Balance on the surface. Protector of those sleeping giants.
He was… supposed to protect them as well.
But what was done is done. Nothing he could do to reverse this or do something to stop the slaughter from happening.
As he stood up, shook his head, and prepared himself to leave, he heard a sinister hiss near his location.
*HIISSSSSS
Godzilla turned around. That hiss sounded far more powerful— the Crawler in charge.
…He wanted to see who was the being that led this carnage as he walked forward toward the sound as his heart started to beat faster and claws started to flex. He wanted to… talk to it.
He sees a shape moving far away through the storm. A Crawler. It was bigger than the rest, nearly matching him in size, and could actually pose a challenge for a fight. It faced a large mountain and hissed in the direction of a small opening, a cave. From it, he could hear whimpers.
His orange eyes widened in shock.
A cub. A cub of a Great Ape. Alive. And in danger.
Godzilla stepped forward to get a closer look.
In the distance, he could see clearly by the looks of it, that the Crawler was looking for it as a meal. The Crawler used one of its giant hand-legs to reach deep into the cave. After a moment of rummaging, with a triumphant rumbling hiss, she pulled the cub out of the cave with rocks falling all over the place.
The cub in her, he notices, blood-smeared claws is small, tiny even, especially when grasped by the Crawler.
Godzilla could see that the cub was, while terrified, also defiant. He let out small roars and grunts as if to ward off the Crawler and punch her with his fists, and even attempted to bite her.
Godzilla's impression and respect for the Great Apes grew.
The Crawler let out a rumbling hiss, licking her jaw with a serpentine tongue and mocking the small cub she clutched in her hand-leg. She taunted the cub, shaking her hand as if daring to do it again.
As Godzilla saw that look in his eyes, fear, he felt…rage.
That was a cub. Not a threat at all. And he realized those were probably his parents that were lying dead behind him. Trying to protect their child with everything they had. And paid the price for it.
Godzilla stared at the bodies. He was too late to prevent the slaughter. The needless deaths.
But he could prevent this.
*RUUUMBLE
He was the Protector of Balance!
Godzilla growled and turned. He decided to act.
He saw the terror and the dawning realization on the cub's face as he knew this was the end of him and let out another defiant, small roar.
This time the roar was different.
*SKREEEEEEEOOOOONK
The Crawler pulled her head away in shock when she heard a familiar sound, and then turned her head when a loud *THOOOM* resonated right of her.
Godzilla cared not for the clear shock on their faces at his sudden appearance. He let out a growl, reared his right claw back, and with all his might, smacked the Crawler in her skull face.
*BAM
The force of it makes the Crawler drop the Cub on the ground. And of course, makes her fly several hundred feet away from them.
Godzilla locked eyes with the Cub as the Crawler fell with a loud thud.
He was a small, lanky brown-furred thing, who regained his bearings and was staring at him in a mixture of fear, surprise, and confusion. Then defiance overtook those large brown eyes again.
Again, he was impressed.
Godzilla hears commotion from his side so he rumbles a low growling sound at the Cub.
‛Get to safety. Now.‛
The Cub, shocked by that, picked himself up, turned around, and started to run away on all fours through the mud.
Godzilla turned around just in time to see the Crawler getting back up on its hand-legs. It shook her skull head and glared at him, a rageful as well as a perplexing one. The Crawler let out a short hiss. A short question:
‛Why attack me?! It's just a cub of an Exiled.‛
Godzilla growled and barred his teeth. The Crawler took a step back, fear obvious on its face.
He too had a question.
‛Why attack them? The rules are known. Have they tried to leave?‛
The Crawler replied with a dismissive snort as the storm picked up the pace. ‛Does it matter? They are Exiled. Besides, my children needed fun.‛
Godzilla's heart started to furiously beat faster at the realization.
Fun. That was the reason? Fun?!
Parasites!
‛Who cares anyway-‛
He lets out a long angry snarl, stunning the green serpentine beast with his answer and making her back away as he barred his teeth.
‛I. Care.‛
The Crawler stared in disbelief and understood. She was in deep trouble. Godzilla continued, straightening his back and spreading his arms.
‛Last chance. Leave right now. Or else…‛
The Crawler held his glare. Either the bravado gained from the slaughter or just sheer arrogance that made her mimic his glare and emit a slow hiss.
‛Make. Me.‛
She readied her stance and growled. Godzilla lets out a humorless huff at the defiant display.
A challenge. Against him?
Lighting flashes at his decision.
*KRA-KOOOM
…He accepts.
Over the roar of the storm, his roar is louder and charges with fury. The Crawler lets out a hiss and charges as well, fangs bore and claws ready.
*SKREEEEEEEOOOONK
*HIISSSSSSS
Kong ran through the forest, knocking down small trees while trying to get the distance between himself and the Walking Serpent. Adrenaline and desperation pushed him forward, making him ignore the fatigue he felt and the fear for his life through the hailstorm.
He thought this was it when those monsters slaughtered his tribe. When he was grabbed and about to be devoured by a giant skull maw.
Only to be saved.
By him. The one with spikes on his back.
He never actually heard of him or seen him before like this. His mother was showing him the paintings about their history and he saw his image. He was curious. His mother was just about to tell him the history of his kin when the walking serpents attacked them.
They came out of nowhere.
Every single member of his tribe was gathered in the Valley, the place where they spent most of their time. Screams of panic and pain alerted him and his mother as they emerged from their communal cave and saw those crawling beings killing his tribe one by one, cut and ripped apart without mercy. One tried to jump them, but his father, one of the strongest in his tribe, came between them and saved them, killing the serpent with a mighty blow to the chest.
He and his parents barely made it out. They fled swiftly, mother carrying him in his arms and father making sure the pursuing serpents stayed off, fighting them with thundering rage.
*SKREEEEEEEOOOONK
He stopped running so he could turn around and watch the fight unfolding before him from a safe distance, a battle of thunder and fury.
The Walking Serpent, the one who led the carnage, was currently on the Spiked One's back, attempting to bite his head with its gaping maw. The Spiked One was at the same time avoiding that and trying to grab the serpent with his hands. But every time he tried the serpent moved out of the way and clawed him in the back, the Spiked One letting out pained snarls. She was fast and his arms were too short.
Eventually, the Walking Serpent jumped off the spike's back and bit him in the leg. The Spiked One growled with rage and grabbed the serpent by the tail. He spun and tossed the serpent, sending her flying over to the side of the mountain he hid in with a thunderous crack.
*THOOOM*
Kong watched in awe and deep sadistic satisfaction as the serpent let out a pained hiss and struggled to get up. Kong let out mocking belches.
‛Not so tough when there's someone bigger than you, it's there?‛
However, that didn't last for long when he noticed on his left side a sight that left him cold and numb all over.
His parents.
They are lying on their backs. Kong whimpered at the sight.
*KRA-KOOOM
Dead?
No.
Surely, they must be alive. They were strong. The strongest! No one could take them down. No one!
In a hurry, he ran in their direction. In denial. Not accepting the truth as mud splattered in his wake and rain fell on him.
Maybe they are alive, he reasoned, maybe they are just exhausted.
He didn't know his life would change forever.
The Crawler launches herself at him, her wide maw threatening to engulf his throat. Godzilla uses his claws to catch the damn serpent by the mouth and tries to restrain her. Growling, she pushed herself against him with her hands to no avail as his strength was superior. However, her teeth sank into his skin, drawing blood.
Godzilla roars in pain. If only his arms were longer, we could have easily handled the damn serpent! Nevertheless, the pain gives in to more anger as he snarls and digs in his feet. With a mighty heave, he lifts the struggling monster high up in the air and throws her down on the ground with brutal force.
*THOOOM
Waves of mud fly as he doesn't give her a chance to get up, stomping on her back and pushing her down. The Crawler sinks deep in the muddy ground and wiggles repeatedly, hissing threats.
‛Why fight me?! We were doing you a favor!‛ she desperately tries to claw him.
Godzilla's growl vibrates with rage, reaching a level of atomic hatred!
‛A favor? You call killing cubs a favor?!‛
He removes the leg and readies his stance as his heart begins to beat faster. The powerful energy was drumming within him and shaping for a special attack.
The Crawler got up on her hand-legs, shaking her skull head and serpentine body. As it returned its glare at Godzilla, it stilled. A low humming sound reverberated in the air as the Dorsal plates on Godzilla's back glowed bright blue.
*vrrrm vrrrm vrrrm
Godzilla growled with clenched claws and glowing blue eyes. Eyes that promised death.
‛Final. Warning.‛
The Crawler stood there, watching Godzilla while weighing its options. Then the Crawler bowed deep down before him, a clear show of surrender.
Godzilla stopped, the glow vanishing. And he snarled.
‛Leave. Along with our hiding children.‛ he gestures at the hills behind her where he could see several of those little bastards hiding, gazing at him with fear as they should.
The Crawler gave a submissive, compliant nod as she turned and made her way back.
The nuclear power within him stills. As Godzilla huffed and turned around to check on the Cub, he heard shuffling behind him.
He snorted.
Trying to trick him, eh? She was that arrogant?
Shame.
Predictably, as the Crawler launched herself at Godzilla, it failed to notice that Godzilla was prepared for that and with a swift swing of his massive tail, smacked the Crawler near a row of hills.
The Crawler rolled over several times and stood up quickly…only to stop as she saw Godzilla facing her and once again his plates glowed bright blue with a low humming sound reverberating.
*vrrrm vrrrm vrrrm vrrrm VRRRM VRRRM VRRRM
The Crawler bows down in desperation, but Godzilla wasn't having it.
She had her chance.
*VRRRM VRRRM VRRRM- PSHOOOOOO!
Godzilla breathed deep in and let out an atomic breath, a long concentrated blue beam of radioactive power, flying across and shooting at the Crawler. She tried to jump and avoid it but it was for nothing as she was hit right in the chest. She was sent flying back with a painful hiss, the ground shaking with the impact.
The fire from his maw stops as scorched flesh reeks through the air and the Crawler thrashes on the muddy land, bemoaning in pain.
*STOMP
The Crawler stops and sees Godzilla standing above her. Gazing at him through pain, she lets out a pleading hiss.
‛MERCY!‛
He snarled.
*vrrrm vrrrm vrrrm
Mercy? She pleads for mercy.
*vrrrm vrRRRM VRRRRM
After what she has done?
Godzilla lifts his leg high up and stomps on her chest hard, several bones breaking in the process, making her hiss once again and his growling answer a final one.
‛No.‛
He gazes at the storm as the nuclear power within him builds at the apex. And death bellows as he bends back.
*VRRRM VRRRM VRRM- PSHOOOOOOOOOOOO!
He lets out the fury, the hatred. Godzilla breathes his blue fire down on her and with it, symbolic judgment.
Justice for the Great Apes massacred for sport. Revenge against those who hunt the innocents for entertainment. And a message for anyone who thought to do the same thing.
It lasts for a good ten seconds until he stops, the last flickers of blue fire fading away. Observing down, the Crawler's face is burnt to the bone, a cloud of smoke bellowing off her scorched flesh and melted skull.
With that, her life was ended. A price for cruelty and treachery.
Godzilla removes his foot and takes a look to his right. A group of the same juvenile Crawlers stared at him in terror as he stood above their dead brood mother. All of those little parasites trembled with horror, not daring to move as they gazed upon him.
Godzilla breathes in, spreads his arms, and lets out an earth-shattering roar, sending out a strong proclamation.
*SKKRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNK
It echoed across Skull Island in waves, letting everyone know who the victor was and warning anyone who thought to challenge him.
The juveniles scatter in a flash, their potential futures non-existent if they stay. Godzilla sees through a glance over the hills that there is a large hole in the center of the plains.
So, that's where they came from. From Inner Earth. But how-
There is a howl. Full of grief and pain.
*RAAAAAOOOOOOOHH
Godzilla turns back and sees a tragic scene before him.
The Great Ape cub was at his parent's side. He is howling, pushing them, hitting them, pleading with them to wake up.
The adrenaline wears off and reality begins to set in. The child before him is now an orphan. Alone. Like him.
Godzilla lets out a mournful sigh. He could not stand there and do nothing so he decided to carefully approach the grieving Ape.
‛Mo-Mother! Wake up! Wake up Mother, wake up!‛ he hears the Cub plead, his grunting and belching desperate. When no reaction came from his mother's still body, he turned towards his father, repeating the same hopeless actions. ‛F-Father! Why are sleeping? Wake up! Mother is injured! Wake up!‛ he pushed his father's limp head, gaining no response.
The Cub kept desperately glancing between his dead parents. He stops and hangs his head. Why-
A sob. He hears the Cub crying.
Godzilla would have cautiously chirped to alert the Cub to his presence so as not to startle him.
*THOOOM
Damn his foot.
The tiny Cub snapped his head up as he made his presence known. Godzilla sees tears in his eyes as the Cub hisses at him. ‛What? What do you want? Are you here to kill me?!‛
Godzilla grunts back. ‛No. I am not.‛
He makes a step backward to show he means no harm. The Cub looks back at his still parents. He fixes his gaze at Godzilla.
‛Why are they not waking up? Why?!‛
‛They are dead-‛
The Cub roars furiously at him, smashing the ground with his fists.
‛No! They are not!‛
Godzilla decided on a gentler approach. Carefully, he lowers himself and goes to stand on all fours. In slow steps he approaches the grieving wary Cub, staring deep into his eyes.
‛I am sorry. They are… sleeping. Forever.‛
The Cub looks down, letting out small howls.
Godzilla doesn't know what to do. He wondered… what would the Bright One do?
Godzilla carefully got closer. And nuzzled the Cub. Godzilla let out a rumbling sound, hoping that it would be a little comforting.
The Cub is shocked and hesitant. But it does lean in for the touch. A tiny success.
They stay like this for a while, an old Alpha Titan comforting a Great Ape Cub while the dark heavens wept.
The Cub backs away from him and gazes deep into his orange eyes, his brown eyes still shining with tears.
Lost and scared, he asks him. ‛What happens now?‛
Godzilla is uncertain about what to do. But he knows one thing. He cannot leave the Cub alone. Not like this, surrounded by the corpses of his parents. To say nothing of the carnage that lay bare a few miles away from them. And if those little turds dare to come back…!
He pushes off the ground and stands up, glancing at the raging storm. They should find some cover. He doesn't need it, but the Ape surely does.
He rumbles down at him.
‛Come Cub. Rain is still falling. Let's go somewhere dry, hm?‛
Godzilla turns and begins to walk for he is sure there must be some cover from the storm. Skull Island would provide. It… provided well for the Great Apes.
He makes a few steps before noticing that the Cub is not following.
Godzilla lets out a sigh, looks back at the Cub who stares at his parents with a last hopeful gaze, and states the final, sobering truth.
‛I am sorry. They will never wake up.‛
After a moment of quiet, the Cub walks away from them and warily approaches.
Godzilla walks. The Cub follows.
And the end, after minutes of silent search, they found a mountain with a huge and wide hanging rock standing above a large, barren field. Not big enough to cover him but good for the Cub.
Godzilla grunts at him.
‛There Cub. It will do for tonight.‛
He beckons the Cub to follow him.
As they arrive, they examine the area. The field before them had a healthy amount of rainwater. A place with the hanging rock above it was dry.
Godzilla lies down on the large field, while the Cub goes to lay down on the dry ground far away from him.
As Godzilla folded his arms and tried to ponder on a plan for the future days, he was startled when the Cub came to him. The Cub goes to lie down near his arms, leaning on them.
Well, at least the place he lay down was on the dry part of the ground. Godzilla chirped at him. ‛Sleep Cub, we should wait for the storm to pass and the new day to come.‛ he lowered his head and prepared for slumber.
‛Kong.‛ grunted the small ape.
Godzilla lifted his head and stared at the small Ape cub. ‛What?‛
The Cub, Kong, stares back. ‛…My name is Kong.‛
Godzilla nods and rumbles. ‛…My name is Godzilla.‛
And with that, both beings, old and young, close their eyes and rest at the sound of ongoing tempest battering Skull Island.
So that's the start for this one. I've decided this, I will mix up a bit the chapters from the Monsterverse, and throw in some elements from Showa, Heisei, and Millenium Godzilla movies, and King Kong movies as well. This will include comics, games, and books.
Now for several notes:
1. I know that in this universe, Kong was born during the big, final fight his parents had in the comic Skull Island: Birth of Kong but like I said, I'd like to mix it up a bit and make some changes. So Kong was born in the story about a year before this chapter.
2. Godzilla himself is built like in the Monarch show and the way how he got so muscular, compared to the lean build he had in the show's 1954 flashbacks will be explained and shown in the future chapters.
3. This story will be divided into two viewpoints: one from Godzilla's and Kong's perspective and the other from the perspective of the humans.
As for the final note, the update for this story doesn't have a definitive schedule, as The Wolverine and the Mage is still the top priority. But there will be updates, I assure you.
With that said, hope you enjoyed the story, feel free to leave a comment, a like, or dislike for it, as I appreciate the feedback. This story is also posted on AO3.
Special note: For some unknown reason, I'm incapable of receiving any e-mails for this site. So any questions you have, well ask them in the comments.
