Zelda stood in the courtyard of the school she was about to attend.

She wasn't quite sure why father had enrolled her in this school. She had been privately tutored for the majority of her life. Though, there wasn't much focus put on things such as maths or science per say. Instead, she was taught a lot about the goddess, the calamity and her supposed 'powers' that she was beginning to doubt even existed. She hated how her father expected her to know about how to access them. It was, for lack of a better word, stupid.

Anyway, she needn't think about her powers or father, back to her original point. Being privately tutored had always worked for her. Though, she had been lonely for most of her life, she'd never been allowed to make normal friends. For her protection she supposed.

She looked round at the other students here, they were beginning to take notice of her. Some were whispering excitedly. It made Zelda feel quite self-conscious, but if she saw the princess of Hyrule attending the same school as her, she'd probably be excited too.

Some she recognized, sons of members of the royal guard, daughters of nobles from her father's court. Father had enrolled her in the most highly esteemed school in the kingdom; after all, she was bound to recognize some, if not all of them.

One boy pointed at her and mumbled something to his friend who turned and smiled. Zelda (though needing to say somewhat formal for her 'image') let out a small groan. That boy she knew. Groose Hawkin, Son of sir Adalph Hawkin, captain of the royal guard ever since the old one had been killed in battle (It was a shame too, 10 year old Zelda had thought, since the old was was much nicer, and when she had briefly met his family after a royal ceremony).

Anyway, (She needed to stop becoming so sidetracked in her thoughts) it was clear that he had an... (she searched for the right words) interest in her. She doubted he actually liked her, but she could tell he did his best to look appealing to her. She inwardly rolled her eyes at her own comment. She could see him messing with his red poof of hair that had a similar likeness to a rooster. She smirked.

Then she noticed he was walking towards her. She better brace herself for his prattle. Because Groose did tend to go on about nothing. She made sure to put her best 'perfect princess face' on. The one that states 'yes I'm making progess with my powers, why wouldn't i be? ... heh'.

'Princess!' Groose said 'I never expected to see you here! Though it makes sense with your brains! To be accepted into this school takes talent!' he grinned 'anyway how are you princess?'

Zelda inwardly groaned and rolled her eyes slightly. She brushed his mop of red hair up and smiled in the idiotic way he seemed to adore. She didn't really understand what he meant by 'your brains' she wasn't particularly good at anything. All she was, was the princess, she had money to get into this school, not tallent. But, of course, she didn't say that she just smiled and said, 'I'm doing fine.' She paused, then realized she should add 'And how are you?'

'As good as ever, in fact, my day got better when i saw you here toady!' He smiled 'Do you need anyone to walk you home?'

'Well...' She responded. As a matter of fact, she did need a knight to walk her to where Impa and her horse would be waiting. Father had assigned the task to her, 'I believe you can at least succeed in that' he had said.

'Well?' Groose said, smiling more. He clearly could tell she did need one.

But Groose was (as far as Zelda knew) not very good at combat. And add his strange personality, and prattle that drained Zelda of all the energy she possessed, Zelda did not want him as her guard for 10 minutes.

'Well, it's a kind-' She began, but just then a lady came out (who she assumed was a teacher) and rand a bell, signaling that classes were to begin. Groose looked annoyed.

'I'll get your reply later Ze- Princess' and he turned away. His two friends laughing.

Zelda had read the phrase 'saved by the bell' in her books, but had never understood what it meant. Well, she did now. She hated the way he acted so familiar with her. She knew what he was doing, to quote him, she did in fact have 'brains'.

As she walked into class other students began to take note of her. They stared at her as if she was an alien of some sort. She let it slide though, seeing the princess walk down the corridor of your school wasn't normal for most.

'Princess!' A teacher said as she walked into her first class. 'Welcome! I am Dr Purah your science teacher.'

'Science?' Zelda asked 'I never did that with my tutor!'

'I'm sure you'll pick it up princess, we mostly pick apart Sheika tech nowadays.'

Zelda had seen the Sheika technology in the castle and always been quite intrigued by it. But her duties did not allow for her to investigate it, so she never had. But now...

'I've put you riiiiight over there' She pointed to a seat 'You'll be partnered up with the person next to you., and i spent a reeeeaaaal long time choosing who it is!'

'Thank you Purah- Dr Purah.' Zelda said smiling as she sat down.

She smiled, she had met Purah before, as she was Impa's older sister, and she quite liked her. Science might be fun.

She glanced at the seat next to her, nervous about who was sitting next to her. She prayed that it wasn't Groose.

But as the class filled in, no one came to sit next to her. It left Zelda wondering where they could possibly be?

Link lay sprawled out on his bed, his quilt discarded on the floor next to his bed. He was snoring gently. The sun was beaming light into his room, thanks to his curtainless windows, most wouldn't be able to sleep so deeply in the circumstances, but Link had become used to it, it seemed.

He was smiling, what was going on inside his head was wonderful. He had never had such a wonderful dream before:

'So... how do i look?'

The girl with blonde hair smiled at him, and showed off her outfit. It was a hot pink with pieces of cloth tied around it. He smirked and remarked in his head that it was a nice costume. However, for her sake he chose his words more carefully.

'Great!' He said, he even put his thumbs up and smiled back at her, She laughed.

She tilted her head to the side and-

Master I believe you should wake up

AND said 'I think so too! But it's nice to know that you agree Link!'

He smiled and nodded. He looked at her for a while he-

Master you will be late if you don't wake up

He couldn't believe how perfect-

Master-

How perfect this moment was.

Link opened his eyes and glared at the hilt of the sword pushed under his bed. He didn't normally have nice dreams, or even perfect ones. Most dreams he had mainly focussed on his untimely demise. But the one time he was having a nice dream for once it had to wake him up!

Master the time is 8:50 am on Monday-

Oh no

If my calculations are correct there is a 99.56% chance that you will be-

Late to school i know.

Link hurriedly grabbed his uniform, he was surprised it still fit him having bought it years ago, it seemed he hadn't grown much since... he glance over at the sword again.

Why are you unwilling to think of our meeting master?

I'm NOT

He grabbed an old bobbled and tied his hair back into a messy ponytail. He really should cut it, but he liked his hair, even if some idiot at school did not.

He then grabbed his sword from under his bed and slid it into the brown wooden sheath that he had made years ago, before moving to castle town.

It seems you are concealing me again master

Veeery clever.

He rolled his eyes. His magical talking sword didn't half get annoying sometimes. He remembered, hazily, when he first brought it home and heard it for the first time. He'd thought it was amazing, a little pocket friend. But he soon learnt that all it spewed was percentages and unhelpful facts about monsters which Link already knew.

It also caused a whole lot of other issues he didn't have time to think about.

He dashed out the door and slammed it behind him (not bothering to lock it because who would break into that) and ran down the streets of castle town.

He dodged people on their morning walks, people setting up their market stalls for later in the day. One was selling Hateno cheese. He smelt and closed his eyes. It smelt of home. He did miss he home, his mother, his, sister, his friends. He'd give anything to feel like he could go back there. However, his presence endangered those he was meant to (apparently) protect so, he moved here.

By the time he had reached the school gates it was...

10 past 9 master

Better than he thought he would do he had to admit. Though Dr Purah would have a word with him he was sure when he walked in late. Not that he really cared much for he class, as long as he wasn't late for his swordplay class, he was (kind of) happy.

As he walked round to the back entrance (or the one Link normally used) he cursed himself for letting himself wake up late again. It was like he couldn't help it; his dreams kept him firmly asleep. But maybe-

I detect an 88.97% chance in saying that you are correct in that fact master. Based on previous-

Maybe he was just lazy.

He walked into the back entrance of the school,

'Late again Link?'

He nodded as the woman wrote down his late mark. He sighed and walked to his class.

At least it was a good dream this time...'

Hello everyone! This is my first fanfiction... EVER (if you don't count that rubbish TOTK one a tried like two years ago and deleated)! In the highyly over saturated market of BOTW prequels! (WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO)

Link and Zelda are going to go through some wild stuff in this fic, as you will know from the games obvs.

I've read A LOT of botw stories in my time so if you recognise any elements from those... I probably was inspired by them and added them here!

I HIGHLY DOUBT I WILL FINISH THIS BTW! Thanks to my ADHD woooooooo

But i hope you enjoyed this first chapter. Link sure is 'mysterious' i wonder what he's hiding! (Just kidding, we all know who he is).

They're going to meet next time. What will Zelda think of Link walking in late (by no fault of his own i may add, which i will address).

But for now, See you next time!

- ME!
