Chapter 5:
Hong Kong Phooey and Spot were hiding in an alley. "You saw how I took down those gasket goons," says Hong Kong Phooey, "we rule!"
"Ahem," says Rosemary.
"Oh… uh… I am the defender of Metro City…"
"Yeah, I know it's you," says Rosemary.
"What… how," asks Hong Kong Phooey.
"An anthropomorphic dog started fighting crime the same day another anthropomorphic dog got in my way," asks Rosemary.
"When you say it like that…"
"I'm going to have to book you," says Rosemary.
"Okay, look, I know I'm in a lot of trouble," says Hong Kong Phooey, "but hear me out, if Mao Fu isn't stopped, the world could be in danger!"
Hong Kong Phooey's Fantasy:
Whoever reads the scroll shall become the most powerful Kung Fu master in the world! Nothing could stop them! People could get hurt! Mao Fu could commit countless crimes! He could rule this land with an iron fist!
Reality:
"Then, how do you know he hasn't read it by now," asks Rosemary.
"He can't," says Hong Kong Phooey, "there's a secret way to open it, but he might figure it out if we don't stop him!"
Rosemary sighs. "Alright, I'm in, but then I'm taking you in!"
"Deal," says Hong Kong Phooey, "let's go kick some Mao Fanny!"
...
Rosemary takes Hong Kong Phooey and Spot to the roughest part in Metro City. "This is where some of the biggest crooks are found," says Rosemary, "someone here might know something about Mao Fu!"
"Dang," says Hong Kong Phooey, "there sure is a lot of crooks!"
"Just stay with me," says Rosemary. They walk towards a table. "Hello, Giggler!"
It was a clown. "Rosemary, so good to see you again," says Giggler.
"What's so scary about a clown," asks Hong Kong Phooey. Giggler laughs, but then throws a dagger and it lands right next to Hong Kong Phooey. "Good aim."
"What are you talking about," asks Giggler, "I missed!" Hong Kong Phooey and Spot are now uncomfortable.
"Have you heard of a man named Mao Fu," asks Rosemary.
"Mao Fu," asks Giggler, "yes… I believe I have… but what would I get out of telling you everything?"
"This isn't a joke, Giggler," says Rosemary.
"Oh, but life's a joke," says Giggler, "and I'm the only one who gets it and…" He then falls and they see Mao Fu, standing behind him.
"I was always afraid of clowns as a kid," says Mao Fu.
"Now we're talkin'," says Hong Kong Phooey, "let's party!" He then gets up, ready to fight. Hong Kong Phooey is about to take on Mao Fu.
