Jackson considers changing his last name.

It makes sense, he thinks - seeing it written down on a piece of paper like that. If you'd asked him years ago when he'd married April the first time if he'd ever consider changing his name, he would've laughed it off. April wasn't interesting in changing her name, so why would he need to change his? Things were different now, though, and he'd had a lot of time to reflect on how he felt about it this time around.

His main reason for wanting to change it is Harriet. April had brought up the idea of hyphenating her own name so that she could match with their daughter (something that was incredibly exciting to their little girl) and that spurred something within him. If they were going to match, then it felt only right that he should join in on it too. He wanted them to feel like a complete family again and not like his surname was more important than April's somehow - especially when it felt tarnished ever since Harper had been outed as a sexual predator. Even though the foundation now operated under his mother's maiden name, he was still an Avery. He found himself feeling less and less connected to his surname as time went on, and hyphenating it could mean a fresh start. They were going to be together forever this time around, and he wants his soon-to-be-wife (again) to know that he really means it.

"Jackson Kepner-Avery?" April says, her face scrunching up in confusion adorably, before she jokingly adds, "Are you thinking about changing your name then?"

"Well, not yet, but yeah...I'm changing my name."

April, taken aback, blinks a few times, feeling dumbfounded (and somewhat unsure as to whether or not he's actually being serious). "What...why?"

"I want to." Jackson admits with a shrug, acting like it isn't a big deal at all. "You said you wanted to change yours and I thought...I wanted that too. Remember your speech to my mom about how Kepner means something? I know it means a lot to you and I want to be apart of that this time around - to own it with pride and create our own legacy. I can't change the dent Harper put in the Avery name, but maybe we can create something new. Something thats ours. The three of us."

"But...I thought you didn't want to change it?" That was how she remembered it that last time around, and, whilst it didn't bother her and both of them were happy to keep their names, it seemed odd to go from that to doing something that was fairly progressive - especially when the Avery namehadopened doors for him (even though he had worked hard to prove himself too).

"Well, I thought you didn't either." He sasses, trying to hold back a smirk. "Things change.I want this."

She tries to blink back the tears, looking at him with such love and adoration that she genuinely cannot believe that this, and him, are real. She likes the little throwback to a time in their lives when wanting this was their things - when they were just a couple of confused kids trying to understand that they were in love.

"You're gonna have to learn how to milk a cow and if you want to be a Kepner."

"You know what? Maybe I've changed my mind." He quips, earning him a subtle swat and a giggle from her. Who was he kidding? He'd let her teach him how to successfully slaughter a pig if it made her happy.

"Harriet's gonna be so excited to match. Oh! And we can put 'The Kepner-Averys' on our Christmas cards this year, and on our matching pyjamas!"

He lets out a sigh, pretending to hate the idea and acting as though he'd be forced to go along with it. "IguessI can get on board with that."

"I can't believe you want to be a Kepner." She chuckles, because honestly, as heart-warming as it is, its hard to imagine Jackson wanting to be seen as a small-town farm boy, when at one point, even the thought of doing his own laundry or going without his precious lattes elicited a groan from him.

"I can't believeyouwant to be an Avery. You sure you want to be associated with a dead dirty old sex offender?"

She scrunches her nose in response, as if she's reconsidering it, before deciding, "I think I can live with that. Like you said, it's a fresh start. It's our name now."

Jackson gives herthatlook that she's so familiar with by now - the one full of love and adoration, that makes her feel like she's the only person to ever exist to him. Like he can't believe that she's real and that they're here together, in Boston.

"I love you."

Their foreheads rest against one another, noses touching, and she almost can't believe how happy she is, either. "I love you too."
