Slight AU but only to change Emily from a swimmer to a softball player.

Senior year:

With graduation approaching Emily could feel this intense sense of uncertainty. Would she really end up going to college to play softball. Alison had already been accepted to all the ivy leagues she applied to and even the ones she didn't. The pair hadn't spoken since their last break up a little over a month prior. The fight that caused the break up had been something incredibly stupid but maybe it was for the best. At least that's what they told themselves to try and get through this.

Tapping her pen against the notebook in front of her Emily glanced at the clock. Only ten more minutes until the start of the rest of her life. Sure she had offers to play softball in some incredible D1 schools but only Alison knew which school she was choosing. When the last bell finally rang the class stood up and exited as quickly as possible. This caused a traffic jam of course, leaving just two people in the class room. Emily and Alison.

"Have you told anybody where you're going to college yet?" Alison asked in an attempt to make the awkward tension in the room less obvious. Shaking her head Emily tugged the strap of her backpack onto her shoulder. "No-I didn't because I don't think I'm actually going. After my dad died I keep having this gnawing feeling I shouldn't leave my mom by herself."

Alison sighed softly "Em you know she wants you to do what makes you happy. So why not go for it? If you go for a year or two and you hate it then quit. Just don't sell yourself short of an opportunity of a lifetime." She was right and Emily knew better than to argue. "Too bad I'm not part of the plan." Alison mumbled not realizing she had said that out loud until Emily shot her a look.

"Look, I thought we were past whatever this was. I can't keep letting myself think we're supposed to go through life together when clearly you had your eyes on a different prize."

Rolling her eyes Alison scoffed a laugh out. "Seriously, what other fight would you like to hash out?" Before the breakup the two had a fight over Emily's jealousy and insecurity. Not that it wasn't warranted, it wasn't like Alison's record of being truthful was at an all time high. "I told you I didn't touch her, she kissed me Emily. You're the one who doesn't want to believe me. It doesn't matter, like I said you believe what you want to believe, or whatever your friends are telling you to."

Finally able to make their way to the locker they had decided to share at the beginning of the year Emily pulled out her glove. It was the last thing of hers in there. Turning towards Alison she sighed "I think my letterman is in your car. Think we can grab it on our way out?"

It wasn't really in her car and Emily knew that but she wanted to keep talking to her even if it was pointless. Just being around her for what could very well be the last time, she wanted it to last just a little bit longer. Alison nodded unsure if it was in there to begin with. "You sure it isn't in yours? I haven't seen it for a while. Last time I wore it was maybe two weeks ago?"

Emily hated the fact she was so soft for this girl. No matter what seemed to be happen between the two of them she couldn't just stay mad at her. Meaning despite the fact they weren't currently on in their on and off again relationship meant she'd still lend Alison her jacket. The one that envelopes her entire body, the hem of the jacket reaching her thighs when she wore it.

Walking towards Alison's car she unlocked it giving her the chance to look for it. "I don't think it's here, really. If I find it at home I'll ask someone else to bring it to you…" Alison wasn't used to not getting what she wanted, and what she wanted right now was Emily. Eventually the two of them could talk about things but that wasn't going to happen soon.

"Okay—yeah let me know. I guess next time I'll see you is graduation then?" Emily didn't want to admit it but she really felt a sadness building in her chest as this could have really been goodbye. Alison wouldn't let it show but she did take a chance and hugged Emily anyway.

Melting into the blondes touch she decided to just let go of her pride just long enough to embrace her. "Damn it Ali. Things weren't supposed to happen like this. We were supposed to take on the world together." Emily's words trailed off to almost a whisper as she spoke.

"Who says we can't, nobody else can stop us but us." Reaching up Alison brushed some of Emily's hair out of her face. "I have a proposition for you. Kiss me, and if you feel nothing this can be good bye. However if you do, you'll give me another chance."

Emily didn't really give herself enough time to consider the fact she knew before even kissing her she was going to feel something. Just simply looking at Alison made the butterflies flood her stomach. It was like the first time, every single time. Leaning over Emily kissed Alison, shutting out the rest of the world their eyes closed as they deepened the kiss. Alison's arms found their way around the taller girls neck pulling here as close as possible.

"Emily damn it, what happened to giving yourself time and space." Hanna rolled her eyes, she'd talk to Emily later and really give her an ear full. Emily knew she was harmless and really did have the best intentions, but she didn't have the best execution of words. "Hanna stop, just let her do what she needs to do. She's gotta make her own decisions, they're both adults." Spencer tried to advocate for Emily but Hanna just shook her head. "Whatever let's go."

"Nothing quite like Hanna running interference." Groaning Emily threw her head back in frustration. "Hanna has never been my number one fan, she just wants to protect you and I don't blame her." Alison tried to help Emily see her case even if it was against her.

"I have to go to the batting cage. I'm sure you aren't interested in sitting there for a couple of hours doing nothing. How about I pick you up after, then we can have that talk we said we needed to have."

Alison nodded softly "You fail to remember I quite enjoy watching you do literally anything. Especially when you're batting. The way your hips move, the way your uniform hugs those beautifully long legs." Alison pretended a shiver ran down her spine as she giggled. Emily kissed her once more and shrugged "It's up to you but I'm pretty sure your favorite person is going to be there also so by all means it's your call."

When Emily mentioned Paige would be there she wasn't sure if that was giving her even more of a reason to show up. "I'll be there. I am going to go home and change first. I'll meet you there probably around the time you're done with warm ups." Emily had a feeling she knew what Alison was up to but secretly shouldn't wait. Possessive Alison was her favorite, but she couldn't say that out loud to anyone.

Having done her stretching and hits off of the tee stand she felt like she was ready to get on with really fastballs being thrown her direction by the pitching machine. "Let's start out slow." She muttered to the machine as she chose the program she wanted to run.

"I've never known you to take things slow Em." Paige snickered setting up her own machine in the next cage over. Emily just rolled her eyes until her attention was brought elsewhere. Alison let a very not so subtle cough pass her lips as she took a bench seat on the bleachers behind the cages.

"Looking good baby, get those muscles nice and warm for later." Emily immediately struck the first ball that came her way with force. The reader showing an exit velocity of 100 miles per hour. Emily couldn't help but grin at the fact she hit the ball almost twice as hard as Paige had. Not that they were competing, they already had their scholarships to different schools.

"Too bad McCullers, might do you some good to have a hottie cheering you on." Emily knew that was her sign to take a look back at her. Alison had on a skin tight black skirt and her silky red top Alison had bought just for the two of them. Biting into her lip Emily closed her eyes trying to get her mind back to where it needed to be. Focused on the task at hand but it proved to be a lot harder than she thought it would.
