++++++++++++++++++AMARO'S CHAIN Introduction
...
The lady of colors once told me it was normal for Jumpers to not remember How they "died". Generally, the mind would repress the process of Transmigration of the soul, It was just to "Eldritch" for a living person to remember. That would also be why even those who gained perfect memory from perks do not remember the few hours before and after incarnating into a new life.
"It was best to keep that out of your minds until they were developed enough to deal with..." She said on her weirdly motherly tone.
She was weirdly motherly as a whole. He wonders IF the patrons programmed her like that because they thought it would make it easier for people like him or if she developed that on her own.
The first time I saw her was quite overwhelming though...
I had woken up in what looked like a bed, my head was weirdly empty in a way I only experienced on relaxed vacation days. Getting up I realized wherever I was, it was not home... them I spotted her
My breathing stopped when I saw the woman standing before me. Skin like the surface of the pearl. "A mask?" I asked myself. It was not. Her clothing was like a cloak I only ever seen in movies, just... more colorful. The closest description I could make would be something like the hippie shirts with watercolor fractals.
But even more than that, there was this aura. An aura of... everythingness. Like, just looking at her was more information I could manage. Like I was high on LSD and cocaine at the same time.
"Stop that…stop this...please." I weakly muttered. Desperately grasping on the last vestiges of coherence in my mind.
The woman backed away slightly as If surprised. And suddenly the aura faded and I was able to think again. "Sorry, little one, sometimes I forget the precise amount of sensory output each species can manage. This last setting was for a different kind of human from another earth."
"W-who are you?... How - Where even am I? Wha- what's even..."
She approached, ever so slowly, eyes never leaving me. "How the ones I look after call me varies a lot. A while ago a woman from your planet called me Zhōngjiè. "
" ...Zo-Zhōngjiè? Wait- planets? What the fuck?"
My body began to stand as she gently pulled me up at eye level. "And it is not what I want you to do. Its what your patrons want you to do. This part, specifically, is generally better to be imprinted than simply transmitted through words." She moved slowly, as if not to further scare a frightened animal. Her fingers brushed my face.I let her do as she pleased - to stunned to react as she pressed her hand to my forehead.
And them… and them I understood it all.
I saw the beginning. I saw the birth of stars. I saw the formation and destruction of planets. I saw the debris float in the cosmos. I saw the dust and rocks and liquid and energy compress together. I saw the tiniest beings begin to grow and adapt from the dust . I saw humanity's birth, humanity's growth. Humanity's hubris, humanity's conflicts. I saw it all through another being's eyes, a larger one, more complex. Infinitely more...
Then I saw them. I saw creatures beyond comprehension. Finding humans. Becoming fascinated with the little species and how complex they were in their smallness. They-they were taking the humans. Taking them to their experiments. With humans they could learn. To travel. Giving humans power. Giving them missions. Giving them knowledge beyond everything I could imagine.
"Jump-Chain..." I muttered.
"Jump-Chain?!" I scream
Lots of emotions. Fear, incredulity, confusion, excitement, more fear. I felt myself getting dizzy and passed out.
The second time I woke in that bed, I opened my eyes and got up way quicker.
"Good morning."
I looked to the side to see a woman sitting on a chair by the window. Looking around at the room I saw that I was in a very spacious bedroom that had windows on three sides. All of which showed a peaceful forest that made me remember of my childhood.
"Juice?" She smiled and offered a drink as a jar of juice and a glass cup appeared on the bedside table. I stared at the beverage. I took the glass and poured some for myself before drinking it with satisfaction.
"So you're a patron? A Jump-chan, like from the game?"
"No. I am more of an intermediary. Your patrons are way too eldritch to communicate directly. But as their intermediary, some had called me their jump-chan. " She sat comfortably on her chair.
"Why?... Why me?" And question was genuine. I was not the type to do extraordinary things. My greatest aspirations included getting a job well paying enough to take care of my family and get financially and mentally stable enough to invest into becoming a writer. My mind was atypical, overly philosophical and never birthed anything world-changing. So, from all more determined, courageous, and ingenious to send at the multiverse ... why the hell would the choose
Her response came with a smile as placid as it was amused. "They choose people form all archetypes. Variety is necessary for better data gathering. Heroes, Jesters, Explorers, Creators, Caregivers, Sages. All the shades of humanity." the
"So... My life is going to be like those in those games? Those, choose your own adventure games?"
"Not ...exactly." She seemed hesitant for the first time "Jump Chain is good reference to what the experiment will entail to you, but... There are some nuances."
"Nuances?"
She looked at me with what I later understood was compassion. " Have you ever heard of the wanderer fallacy? "
