Hey, so this is an idea that just came to me and I had to write. There will be a lot of time jumps between each chapter as it's about them navigating life events while being platonically married. let me know if you want me to carry on with this story or not.

"Ma, stop fussing." Jane tried to shove her mother's hands away from the back of her wedding dress. Angela had been fussing all morning and Jane was tired of it. She had hovered while hair and make-up was being done pointing out little things and Jane had managed to bite her tongue each time.

"Come on, Janie, you're getting married," Angela tried to reason with her daughter as her hands were slapped away.

"It's a fake wedding," Jane hissed. "We're undercover trying to catch a suspect. We're not actually getting married."

Angela placed her hands on her hips as she glared at her daughter. "I know that but you can still let me enjoy this. What if you never get married? This may be the only time I see my daughter in a wedding dress."

"Gee, thanks, Ma." Jane rolled her eyes but gave in and let her mother fuss. It would be less stressful than trying to fight her mother on any of it.

The team had been trying to solve the deaths of lesbian newlyweds and they had tracked their suspect down to someone who worked in a wedding chapel that was popular amongst lesbians to get married. However they had no concrete evidence against him and the only way was to send two people undercover. Somehow Jane and Maura had been nominated to pose as a couple about to get married. Before Jane knew what was happening a wedding was being planned for the pair of them. Angela was over the moon at helping with the planning and so Jane had left her to it. The only thing she had really gotten involved with was the dress. Even though the wedding wasn't real she wasn't about to walk down the aisle in a big, poofy dress.

"You look beautiful, baby." Angela smiled at her daughter with tears in her eyes.

"Thanks, Ma. Now you better get going. It starts soon." Jane tried to usher her mother out of the room. Angela gave her daughter a kiss on the cheek before she left Jane alone. The brunette let out a sigh and walked towards the floor length mirror to look at herself. She had chosen a simple floor length white wedding dress with lace over the shoulders. It wasn't extravagant but it was her. Her usually unruly curls had been tamed and pinned back towards the left side of her head. Jane Rizzoli didn't make a bad bride if she said so herself. A knock at the door pulled her attention from the mirror.

"Come in," she called and the door opened to reveal Frankie.

"Wow, Janie," he gasped in surprise. "You look stunning." He closed the door behind him and walked closer to his sister. Jane had chosen Frankie to be her man of honor seeing as the only girl friend she had was Maura and Maura was her pretend bride.

"This isn't real," she reminded him quietly but still felt a blush creep up her cheeks. Why was everyone acting like she was really marrying Maura?

"I know but that doesn't mean we can't all enjoy it. You ready? Pop is waiting downstairs for you." He held an arm out and with a deep breath Jane accepted it. For some reason she felt butterflies in her stomach. Most of the guests were other detectives so she knew they were all safe should the suspect strike and she knew that she wasn't really marrying Maura but those butterflies would not shift.

"Hey, Pop." Jane smiled at her father as she and Frankie descended the stairs. "You look nice in your suit." Frankie and Frank were wearing similar suits but Frankie's tie and pocket square was a lighter shade of blue.

"I still don't understand this," Frank grumbled but held his arm out to his daughter. The wedding planner then appeared and gave them all an encouraging smile. She turned the music on and gestured for Frankie to walk down the aisle first. Once he had reached the front she then gestured for Jane and Frank to walk down, all of the guests smiling at them as they passed. Angela stood at the front with tears running down her cheeks. Once they had reached the front of the aisle the music changed and Jane turned to see Susie Chang walk down the aisle in a lavender knee length dress. Maura had chosen Susie to be her maid of honor as she was the next woman she was closest to after Jane. Susie grinned at Jane as she reached the front and they all turned as Maura began to walk down the aisle holding onto Korsak's arm. Jane felt her breath catch in her throat at the sight of her best friend. She looked absolutely stunning. Jane had expected a poofy, overly detailed dress but this was the complete opposite. Maura smiled happily at Jane as her and Korsak reached the front and the music died down.

"Good afternoon," the registrar began to everyone, "we would like to welcome you all to the marriage of Jane Clementine Rizzoli and Maura Dorthea Isles. Would you all please be seated so that we can begin."

Frank and Korsak left Jane and Maura's side and took their seats in the front row while the two women turned to each other. Jane found that she couldn't tear her gaze away from Maura and it seemed the longer she looked, the bigger Maura's smile grew. She barely heard any of what the registrar was saying.

"Do you, Jane Clementine Rizzoli, take Maura Dorthea Isles to be your lawful, wedded wife?"

"I do." Jane slid the ring that Frankie had given her into the ring finger of Maura's left hand towards the engagement ring that sat there. Jane hadn't even thought about the rings but Maura had and she had picked two matching engagement rings and two matching wedding bands for them. Simple but elegant, very much them.

"Do you, Maura Dorthea Isles, take Jane Clementine Rizzoli to be your lawful, wedded wife?"

"I do." This time Maura slid the ring onto Jane's hand before she linked their fingers together.

"Congratulations, I now pronounce you Mrs and Mrs Rizzoli-Isles, you may now kiss your bride." A cheer erupted around them at the words and a blush appeared on Maura's cheeks as Jane leaned in to gently kiss her. Neither one of them had thought about this bit.

"Ma is still crying," Jane commented as the two of them sat at the top table for the reception. Everyone had just finished eating and had started to mingle with each other.

"She's happy." Maura followed Jane's gaze to watch Angela as she tearfully embraced Korsak.

"You know you look really beautiful in that dress." Jane turned her gaze back to Maura. "It's not what I was expecting you to wear at all."

"It isn't?" Maura asked in surprise and glanced down at her dress. "Your dress is very you. I did half expect you to wear a suit," she admitted.

"I tried, Ma wouldn't let me." Jane let out a laugh as she remembered the conversation with her mother.

"Well, I'm glad your mother won that argument."

Jane rolled her eyes and nudged Maura in the side with her elbow before her eyes began to scan the room. So far no one had seen their suspect at the wedding. That didn't mean that he wasn't there, he just hadn't been spotted yet.

Jane felt her palms begin to sweat as their first dance grew closer. She had tried everything in her power to get out of it but Maura had simply refused. If they were going to pretend they were getting married then they were pretending properly. She hated dancing and she hated dancing in front of people. Suddenly she felt Maura's hand slip into hers and give it a small squeeze, indicating that it was time. The music grew louder and Maura led the two of them onto the dancefloor while all their guests gathered around to watch. Once in the middle of the dance floor Jane wrapped her arms around Maura's waist and Maura's arms went around Jane's neck as they began to move to the music. It felt like forever before more couples began to join them on the dance floor. Jane pulled Maura closer so she could whisper into her ear.

"I will get you back for making me dance in front of everyone."

Maura gave a chuckle as she continued to sway them both to the music. "You're not as bad as you think you are at dancing." Jane just gave a grumble in response and tilted her head down so she could press their lips together once more. Kissing Maura was definitely an enjoyable experience and there were still servers around watching them. They had to be believable, didn't they. Maura was caught off guard at the kiss but found her lips moving against Jane's before the brunette pulled back again.

They spent the rest of the night mingling with their guests while all of the detectives kept a close watch on their suspect who had turned up on the bar after the first dance. While most of the guests were from the police force, there were a few from the morgue plus Jane's parents so not everyone was watching the suspect. This meant there were guests who were there just having fun.

"Hey, is your dad okay?" Maura asked as she appeared at Jane's side suddenly, her hand on Jane's elbow. The brunette followed Maura's gaze and caught sight of Frank sitting slumped in a chair in the corner, a bottle of beer in his hand. Jane let out a sigh and made her way over to him.

"Hey, Pop." She slid down into a chair next to him. "You having a good time?"

"A good time?" he questioned drunkenly.

"Yeah, it's a party." Jane gestured to all the guests. She hated when her father got into one of these moods. They never knew which way it would go, too drunk to engage in conversation or drunk angry. Both felt as bad at the other when they were happening.

Frank gave a snort and took another swig of his beer. "I still don't understand why you married her." His voice had gotten louder with each word and Jane realised he had reached the angry drunk mood. She glanced around to see who was closest and she locked eyes with Frankie. Luckily he understood instantly and made a beeline for them. It wasn't their first rodeo with a drunk father in a public setting.

"Pop," Jane began slowly, wondering how to get him to understand in this mood.

"Hey, Pop, why don't we go for a walk." Frankie grabbed hold of his father's arm and lifted him from his chair.

"I don't want to go for a walk." Frank tried to pull his arm free but Frankie held on tighter. Jane gave her brother a grateful look as Frankie guided Frank out of the room, even against his protest. Unfortunately Frank's comments could be heard as he made his way out of the room and Jane caught sight of their suspect watching Frank in interest.

"So you're okay with your sister being a lesbian?" was the last words heard from Frank before the door slammed shut behind him.

"Was that your father?" Angela asked as she appeared at Jane's side. "God damn that man," she grumbled before she took off after father and son. Jane let out a breath and glanced around the room but everyone had turned back to their own conversations again. She could feel tears stinging the back of her eyes. Frank Rizzoli had shown his true colours tonight. Even if the wedding wasn't real, the humiliation from her father was.

"Hey." Maura placed a hand on Jane's back and began to rub it soothingly. The brunette leaned into the touch and closed her eyes for a few seconds to regain her composure. "Let's go outside for a minute."

"No, I'm okay." Jane swallowed the lump in her throat. "There are more important things right now than my idiot father." Maura frowned, not believing her friend, but didn't push the subject further.

Come midnight the reception was over and everyone began to climb into their cars ready to head home. Jane and Maura climbed into the car that had been arranged for them to drive them to their hotel for the night. The detectives all had their positions to be in, ready as they waited for their suspect to strike. From evidence they had gathered the couples had been killed not long after entering their hotel room.

Jane leaned back into the soft leather of the car as it began to drive and closed her eyes. "That was…a lot." She opened her eyes and looked up at Maura.

"It was, but I enjoyed it. Did you?" Maura stretched her legs out in the space they had in the back of the car.

"I did," Jane admitted in surprise and gave a yawn. "I'm beat now though. I hope the hotel has one big comfy bed." The blonde gave a laugh and leaned into Jane as they enjoyed the rest of the car ride in silence. Even though the wedding hadn't been real, it had been very tiring making sure it looked like a real one to any outsider.

Once at the hotel they reached for each other's hand as they made their way to the room, knowing the suspect was probably watching them. They had to play the part.

"Wait," Jane called before Maura could open the door. "One of us is supposed to be carried through the door. Let me carry you."

"What? Jane, you can't be serious." The blonde looked at her in shock. "You can't carry me through the door."

"Come on, let me try." Jane held her arms out and gave her best puppy dog eyes.

"Fine," Maura relented and wrapped her arms around Jane's neck as Jane placed one hand on her back and one under her knees before she scooped her up. Maura gave out a surprised yelp as Jane carried her through the hotel room door and towards the bed. The plan had been to lay Maura down on the bed but Jane tripped on the rug and instead they landed in a heap on the bed, laughter escaping their mouths. "Well, that certainly was an entrance."

"Not my finest moment." Jane pushed herself up onto her arms but found that she was hovering right above Maura on the bed and she had the sudden urge to kiss her. She had totally forgotten that the wedding had been fake. A silence settled over the pair of them as they waited for the other to make a move. A noise from the hallway pulled them from their moment and Jane pushed herself off from the bed. Both women watched the door as they listened for any more sounds. Jane's eyes darted to the bottom of the door as a shadow appeared under it and she reached for Maura's hand, pulling the blonde behind her. Both women held their breath as they watched the shadow move and disappear, a silence settling over them.

"Jane," Maura whispered but the brunette just held a finger up to her lips. They continued to stand in silence as they waited. Jane inwardly cursed at not having her gun but there had been nowhere for her to hide it without giving it away in the wedding dress. She knew her team would protect them but she would have felt happier having a weapon of her own. The only thing that she would be able to put between Maura and the suspect was herself and she was only bulletproof to a point.

They were just about to let their guard down when a shadow appeared under the door again and this time it stayed. Jane pressed their bodies together so that she was fully covering Maura's body as they heard the beep of someone using a keycard on their door and the door began to open. Their suspect, Benjamin Hovel walked into the room, a gun pointing straight at them.

"Anyone screams and I shoot the other one," he warned as he shut the door behind them. Jane felt Maura's intake of breath behind her but the blonde didn't make a sound. Benjamin took a few steps closer to them and let his eyes flick between Jane and Maura and shook his head. "Women aren't supposed to marry each other, they're supposed to do as their man asks them to. You two are just an abomination of women, even your father agrees."

Jane could feel Maura's hands on her back as Benjamin watched them. Both women stayed silent, without a weapon Jane could only protect them so much. Maura's fingers suddenly began to lightly tap Jane's back and she could only hope that meant Maura could see the shadow of one of her team at the door.

"We aren't hurting you, why are you targeting us?" Jane tried to distract Benjamin from the door slowly opening behind him.

"You have no idea," he sneered and pulled the safety back on his gun.

"Benjamin Hovel, you're under arrest. Lower your gun now?" Frost had appeared behind Benjamin and pushed the muzzle of his own gun into the back of his head. He was quickly surrounded by other detectives, all of their guns trained on him. Slowly he raised his hands and his gun was seized by Korsak. Benjamin was cuffed and escorted out of the hotel room.

"You guys okay?" Korsak looked towards Jane and Maura.

"Yeah." Both women nodded and let out a breath.

"Come on, I'll drive you home. We'll question Hovel in the morning." Korsak re-holstered his gun as he waited for Jane and Maura. Jane placed her hand at the small of Maura's back as they both left the hotel room, the exhaustion suddenly washing over them
